Man refuses to pay bail for 16-year-old son who pleaded guilty to rape

(Pexels pic) PETALING JAYA: A man has refused to pay the RM1,500 bail imposed by the Batu Pahat magistrates' court on his 16-year-old son who pleaded guilty to raping a female acquaintance earlier this month. The 40-year-old man said this was to teach his son a lesson, after the boy's plea before magistrate Arun Noval Dass.
Advertisement Berita Harian reported that the man, who accompanied his son to court for the charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, left his son there without paying the bail. The boy was accused of raping his 15-year-old acquaintance at a house in Batu Pahat between 4pm and 5.30pm on June 2. The section provides for up to 20 years' imprisonment and a whipping, upon conviction. According to the police report lodged by the boy's father, the boy committed the offence while his mother was at work.
Advertisement On the day of the incident, his 41-year-old mother came home early to find the girl's slippers outside the house. She knocked on his door several times before it was opened, and found the girl in his bedroom. A police investigation found both the accused and the victim admitting to having had sex 16 to 18 times. Ukrainian drones force suspension of Russian electronics factory
MOSCOW: Work at an electronics factory in Russia's Chuvashia region, some 600 kilometres east of Moscow, was briefly suspended on Monday after a Ukrainian drone attack, local officials said. 'Strikes on the facilities that support the armed aggression of the Russian Federation will continue until it is completely stopped,' Ukraine's General Staff added. Governor Nikolayev said that the decision had been taken to 'temporarily suspend production to ensure the safety of employees'. Russia's defence ministry said it intercepted 49 Ukrainian drones overnight. Ukraine said it shot down 'dozens' of Russian drones over its western Rivne region. The massive Russian attack saw Ukraine's western neighbour Poland scramble fighter jets to secure its airspace, Warsaw's Operational Command said in a statement on social media.

Singaporean man in Skudai road rage incident remanded
JOHOR BAHRU: A Singaporean man, who was detained yesterday to assist in the investigation in connection with an altercation with another driver and vandalism of a car in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Skudai, has been remanded for four days until June 12. Johor Bahru Utara police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh confirmed this when contacted by Bernama today. 'The suspect has been remanded for four days until June 12,' he said briefly. The 40-year-old was arrested yesterday following a report on a viral road rage incident where the suspect was involved in an argument with a local man and kicked the complainant's car, causing damage. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect has no criminal record and tested negative for drugs. He will be brought to the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court today for the remand process. The case is being investigated under Section 426 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and Section 509 of the same code for insulting the modesty of a person. Earlier, police detected a video clip that had gone viral on Facebook showing two men arguing by the roadside, with visible damage to a vehicle at the scene.

Woman loses over RM600,000 to fake share investment scheme
KUANTAN: A research officer lost more than RM600,000 after falling victim to a bogus share investment scheme. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the 57-year-old woman was first lured into the scheme after being added to a WhatsApp group on March 21. She made an initial investment of RM14,000 and managed to withdraw a RM1,000 return, which gave her the confidence to continue investing. "Between April 23 and June 4, she made 28 transactions amounting to over RM600,000 to three different bank accounts using her savings," he said in a statement on Monday (June 9). The victim grew suspicious when she attempted to withdraw RM50,000, only to be told she needed to pay RM200,000 in service charges. Realising she had been scammed, she lodged a police report at the Rompin police headquarters on Sunday (June 8). The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - Bernama
