Barbara Alyn Woods Turned Down Another Role to Take a Chance on 'One Tree Hill'

Barbara Alyn Woods revealed she was only supposed to be on 'One Tree Hill' for three episodes
She declined an offer to be on another show to take a chance on the teen drama
Woods ended up starring on 'OTH' for the majority of the show's nine-season runBarbara Alyn Woods originally wasn't supposed to be on One Tree Hill for more than three episodes.
Woods, 63, revealed her character, Deb Scott, wasn't meant for the long haul during an appearance on the Drama Queens podcast, hosted by former costars Bethany Joy Lenz and Robert Buckley.
"What was the sort of initial concept of Deb? How big of a role were you supposed to have, and what did it look like?" Buckley asked.
"Deb was a three-episode arc," Woods confessed to the shock of both Buckley and Lenz.
Despite being slated for just a short stint on the show, Woods said she took a big leap of faith, hoping showrunners might change their mind.
"I was on another show at the same time, not a regular, but a recurring role in L.A.," Woods recalled. "I knew that One Tree Hill wanted me for three episodes. I was in love with this character. I was in love with the show, the writing."
"I don't think I saw into the future that I would be there further than three episodes, but I really wanted those three episodes," she added. "I had to choose between the two shows. And the other show would have possibly taken me further as well. I had to choose, and I chose One Tree Hill, knowing that it was only three episodes."
While Woods didn't name the other show she was debating, she was notably working on Providence and American Dreams around the same time.
Her gut instincts were right, and, of course, fans of the teen drama know that she stayed on for far more than just three episodes.
"They extended, and I never went home," she recalled. "So after three episodes, they said, 'Well, they wanna keep you here.' So I didn't even pack for it. I never even went home."

Woods ended up playing the mother of James Lafferty's character, Nathan Scott, for the majority of the show's run.
Woods, Lenz and Buckley joked that the direction of her character changed from "boring" to a "cautionary tale" as the series went on. However, Woods said "it was so much fun" playing a character that went off the rails a bit.
"My theory is that the writers on One Tree Hill really wrote for us as they got to know us," Woods said. "Maybe wrote to our strengths, maybe added some comedy or not, and maybe tried to press some buttons, some emotional buttons where we didn't want them pressed."
One Tree Hill ran for nine seasons, from 2003 to 2012. It can be streamed in full on Hulu and Max.

20 Celebrity Couples Who Dated In The 2000s

Twenty years ago, mega celebrity couples roamed the earth: There was Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner (hot on the heels of his first breakup with Nick Lachey and Jessica 'Is It Chicken Or Is It Fish?' Simpson. But those are the ones everyone remembers. To really jog our memory, we thought we'd take a look back at celebrity couples we'd all almost forgotten were an item back in 2005. Let the nostalgia (and feeling old) begin: Jessica Biel and Chris Evans Before he put on spandex and made it big as Captain America, Chris Evans dated Jessica Biel from 2001 to 2006. Here, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre co-stars attend a Halloween party at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles. So much for costumes! Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz Post-Britney and pre-Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake dated Cameron Diaz for about three years. The couple reportedly met at the 2003 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, where Timberlake was picking up the award for "Best Burp," an award presented by Diaz, who had won a few years before. How romantic! Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling Look away, Eva Mendes! Before Ryan Gosling married Mendes, he had girlfriend Rachel McAdams hopping into his arms at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards. The pair, who dated from 2005 until 2007, were accepting the reward for "Best Kiss" for their lip locking in The Notebook. Derek Jeter and Vanessa Lachey Before she was hosting Love Is Blind (with now-husband Nick Lachey), Vanessa Lachey (Née Minnillo) was giving love a chance with Yankees great Derek Jeter. The pair were in an on-and-off relationship from 2003 until 2006. Keira Knightley and Jamie Dornan From 2003 to 2005, Keira Knightley and future 50 Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan were arguably the hottest couple in the British Empire. Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush got married in 2005, though you might have forgotten because it only lasted five months. Here, the One Tree Hill co-stars stop by MTV's TRL — another relic from a bygone time. Kanye West and Alexis Pfeiffer Kanye West's first high-profile romance was with fashion designer Alexis Pfeiffer. Here, the pair, who dated from 2002 to 2008, pose at an event with Kim Kardashian, Ye's future wife. Not awkward at all! Kate Moss and Pete Doherty An all-time-great Messy Couple, Kate Moss and musician Pete Doherty started their two-year on-again, off-again relationship in 2005. Here they are at the Glastonbury Festival that same year. Hilary Duff and Joel Madden Hilary Duff and Joel Madden of the band Good Charlotte dated from 2004 to 2006. The pair allegedly started dating when he was 25 and she was 16, which, uh, no comment. Chris Pratt and Emily VanCamp Chris Pratt and Emily VanCamp, who played onscreen siblings on Everwood, dated from 2004 to 2007. Here, the pair attend a Xbox 360 Gears of War party — a very early-aughts event. Chris Klein and Katie Holmes Katie Holmes had quite a wild 2005: She began the year engaged to longtime boyfriend Chris Klein. By March, the pair had called off the engagement. A month later, she was spotted canoodling — a classic 2005 tabloid term — with A-lister Tom Cruise, whom she'd go on to marry and divorce. Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett A baby-faced Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett dated briefly in 2005 while making the neo-noir The Black Dahlia. Bow Wow and Ciara She's happily married to New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson today, but in 2005, singer Ciara was dating rapper Bow Wow. Mandy Moore and Zach Braff Mandy Moore and Zach Braff dated from 2004 to 2006 during a blonde moment for Moore. Josh Groban and January Jones Singer Josh Groban dated Mad Men actor January Jones from 2003 to 2006. Groban — like Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows before him and Pete Davidson today — is one of those secret I've-dated-everyone-Hollywood types: The crooner has also been linked to Katy Perry, Kat Dennings, and Selma Blair. Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn On the heels of her divorce from Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston dated Vince Vaughn, her co-star in The Breakup, for about a year. The pair — inelegantly called Vaughniston by the tabloids (yeah, that never got on the same way Brangelina did) — broke up IRL in 2006. Jude Law and Sienna Miller Jude Law and Sienna Miller were on-again, off-again from 2003 to 2011. The pair were very publicly off again in 2006, after Law allegedly had an affair with his children's nanny. (We forget now, but 2005 was smack-dab in the middle of the era when everyone was having an affair with the nanny.) Renée Zellweger and Kenny Chesney Renée Zellweger and country singer Kenny Chesney had a blink-and-you-miss-it marriage in 2005: The marriage lasted all of four months, with Zellweger filing for an annulment, mysteriously citing 'fraud' as the reason for the split. Orlando Bloom and Kate Bosworth Orlando Bloom — looking very swashbuckle-y in his Pirates of the Caribbean era — dated Kate Bosworth from 2002 to 2005. Finally, Nas and Kelis Nas and singer Kelis were married from 2005 to 2010. After their divorce, the Queens-born rapper posed with Kelis' wedding dress on the cover of his 2012 album 'Life Is Good." (Because nothing screams "over it" like posing on an album cover with your ex's wedding dress.) This article originally appeared on HuffPost.

Lionsgate Head Says AI Can Recut Films for Kids, Create Anime Adaptations, and Save Millions... In Just Hours — GeekTyrant

In a recent interview with New York Magazine, Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns opened up on how the studio is starting to experiment with AI, and if what he's saying holds up, it's a glimpse into a very weird (and very real) future for filmmaking. Last September, Lionsgate inked a deal with AI startup Runway, the same company behind several high-profile generative video tools, making it the first major Hollywood studio to partner directly with the tech firm. Burns says the goal is simple: 'make movies and television shows we'd otherwise never make.' 'We can't make it for $100 million, but we'd make it for $50 million because of AI,' he explained. 'We're banging around the art of the possible. Let's try some stuff, see what sticks.' And what 'sticks' could mean anything, from lowering costs to transforming entire franchises for entirely different audiences. Some of the more interesting examples is taking a gritty, R-rated film and repackaging it for kids and turning a film into an anime. 'Now we can say, 'Do it in anime, make it PG-13.' Three hours later, I'll have the movie,' Burns said. 'But I can do that, and now I can resell it.' A full reworking of a major film, adjusted in tone, format, and rating, done in mere hours with AI. It's not just science fiction anymore, this is now a business model. Lionsgate, which holds the rights to massive properties like John Wick and The Hunger Games , now has the option to rework its library for different audiences with just a few tweaks. New York Magazine noted, 'With a library as large as Lionsgate's, they could use Runway to repackage and resell what the studio already owned.' Burns even cited a more grounded, behind-the-scenes example of how this could impact production: 'We have this movie we're trying to decide whether to green-light. There's a 10-second shot — 10,000 soldiers on a hillside with a bunch of horses in a snowstorm.' In the past, shooting that scene would cost millions and take days. Now? AI could generate the shot for about $10,000. Of course, Burns did clarify that AI doesn't erase everyone from the picture. 'I still have to pay the actors and all other rights participants,' he said. 'But I can do that.' So while the creative implications are still a giant question mark, the business play is clea… faster production, lower costs, and endless remix potential. What comes next? We're all about to find out. This is wild, but its the future. The ball is rolling and there's no stopping it.

Michael Rosenbaum Confirms Secret Role in James Gunn's SUPERMAN — GeekTyrant

Michael Rosenbaum the actor who played the fan-favorite Lex Luthor from Smallville just revealed he is part of James Gunn's upcoming Superman reboot… but maybe not in the way people expected. During a panel at Fan Expo Dallas, Rosenbaum said that he's recorded a 'fun' little voice role for the film. 'James asked me to do something fun, so I have a couple of lines that I voice,' he said. 'There was nothing in this one, but he's the head of DC, so I think he can stick me in a movie or something.' So, no major character reveal, but there is a mysterious voice role, which could likely one of the robot companions at Superman's Fortress of Solitude, where Gunn has already confirmed Alan Tudyk and Michael Rooker are lending their talents. Rosenbaum, of course, is no stranger to voice work. He famously brought Wally West's Flash to life in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited , and has stayed close with Gunn over the years, appearing as crystal-skinned Martinex in all three Guardians of the Galaxy films. With Gunn now running the show at DC, It makes sense that he'd want to bring Rosenbuam along for the ride in anyway that he can. This character he plays in Superman may not be a big role, but maybe Gunn's got something more exciting planned for the actor somewhere down the line. When asked why he wasn't doing more in Superman, Rosenberg said: 'Why am I not in Superman? Why am I not in the movie somehow?' he recalled asking Gunn. But he's not bitter about it, just realistic. 'Whatever comes to me, I look at it, and if it's not too silly, or if it makes me laugh, or I think I could do a really good job, or I think I can make an impression, I'll do it.' Superman hits theaters on Rosenbaum's birthday, July 11, 2025, a fitting gift from one of his best friend. 'He's one of my best friends, and he's very loyal. I think he's got a great vision,' Rosenbaum said of Gunn. Even Smallville's Clark Kent, Tom Welling, chimed in with some love: 'Once (Michael) gets involved, it's better.'
