Who knew that catchy melodic songwriting coupled with brilliant 80s arena metal would bring Ghost their first No.1 charting album in the U.S. Skeletá, the sixth studio album from the masked Swedish outfit Ghost, has debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart.
This marks the band's first ever No.1 charting album in the U.S., and with this feat Ghost has officially broken metal's dry spell on the Billboard Top 200 Charts. Skeletá is the first metal or metal-adjacent record to chart at No.1 since TOOL's Fear Inoculum in 2019. AC/DC were the last hard-rock band to debut No.1 with their 2020 LP Power Up.
Billboard notes that Skeletá has shipped a staggering 86,000 equivalent album units since its release on April 25th. However, what's even more noteworthy is that Skeletá just earned Ghost the biggest week for a hard rock album debut on vinyl in the modern era, according to Billboard.
This is truly a massive achievement not only for Ghost and the rock genres that they dabble in, but also for music consumers. Vinyl and physical media has proven once again that it is here to stay for the long haul, which goes against many of the practices currently going on across the entertainment industry with streaming services. The metal and rock music scenes certainly have an affinity for physical media, and Ghost's latest release not only showcases that but it proves the demand for physical media, specifically vinyl, is only climbing.
With the success Ghost has seen so far metal music is already in a great spot in 2025. However, Sleep Token, the sensational UK metal outfit, is set to release their highly anticipated fourth LP, Even In Arcadia, on Friday, May 9th. Given the charting success from Sleep Token's recent singles, it's more than likely that they could also be bringing home their first No.1 charting album in the U.S. as well.
This would be unprecedented if this did end up occurring. The only comparable year where there have been two metal albums that have debuted at No.1 weeks apart was in 2019, when Slipknot's We Are Not Your Kind and TOOL's Fear Inoculum both charted at No.1 in the span of a month.

Metallica's In The Middle Of A Huge Week On The Billboard Charts

When it comes to Metallica and the Billboard charts this week, the focus is on the group's self-titled full-length. That project brings the hard rock legends to a milestone that only a very small number of artists in history have reached — but it's not the only exciting thing happening with the Grammy winners. Multiple titles connected to Metallica return to various tallies this frame, as fans continue to buy and stream everything the band has released, not just its namesake bestseller. Master of Puppets Returns to Top Album Sales Metallica is one of two titles by the band of the same name to appear on at least one Billboard chart. As that set soars on multiple rankings, Master of Puppets reenters the Top Album Sales ranking. The decades-old project is once again a bestseller as it breaks back onto the list of the bestselling projects in the country at No. 44. Luminate reports that sales of the fan favorite increased by almost 21% week over week, with just under 2,900 pure purchases. 'Enter Sandman' Returns to a Global Chart Metallica only claims one hit song on any Billboard chart, and 'Enter Sandman' is once again that classic. The single rises to No. 9 on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs roster as it finds its way back to the Billboard Global 200. The band once again scores one of the 200 most consumed songs around the planet, as 'Enter Sandman' flies back to No. 194 after not finding space on the list at all just days ago. The decades-old cut, regarded as one of the most important in hard rock history, has only spent six weeks on the list throughout the years, and it has previously topped out at No. 177. Metallica Joins Pink Floyd and Bob Marley Metallica, the album, hits 800 weeks on the Billboard 200 this frame as it rises to No. 154. It's just the fourth release in history to make it to that milestone on the hugely competitive tally, following The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, Legend by Bob Marley and the Wailers, and Greatest Hits by Journey. Metallica lives on a trio of tallies at the moment. In addition to the Billboard 200, it returns to the top 40, landing at No. 40 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, and dips a single spot on the Top Hard Rock Albums list. A Legacy of Chart and Sales Dominance Released in August 1991, Metallica — often referred to as The Black Album — marked a commercial breakthrough for the band. It was powered by smash hits like 'Enter Sandman,' 'The Unforgiven,' and 'Nothing Else Matters,' which still rank among the most successful from the harder side of rock music. The behemoth has moved at least 20 million copies in the U.S. alone, making it one of the top performers of all time.

Taylor Swift's Timely Streaming Win Helps Her Album Become A Bestseller Again

Every December, it's common for Christmas songs to invade the Billboard charts, and as Halloween nears, several tunes — especially 'Thriller' by Michael Jackson — mount incredible comebacks. There aren't too many other tracks that enjoy annual surges in streams and sales that aren't connected to those two holidays, but Taylor Swift has landed one of the few. 'August,' featured on her album Folklore, returns to prominence as its namesake month nears and begins. Some years, the uptick is relatively small, while at other times, it's big enough to help the tune and the album it's featured on — and that's the case in 2025. Folklore Reenters Top Album Sales Chart Folklore is enjoying its biggest week in some time on the Billboard charts, thanks largely to increases in streams and sales of 'August.' At the moment, Folklore lives on four tallies, surging on three and returning to one. Five years after its release, Folklore is back on the Top Album Sales chart, appearing once again as one of the 50 bestselling titles in the country. The Grammy-winning effort lands on the list at No. 47 after selling more than 2,800 copies in the most recent finished tracking frame. Major Gains on Alternative and Rock Charts Swift's surprise release also surges on several other rankings. Folklore lives inside the top 10 on both the Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts, pushing to Nos. 4 and 9, respectively. It reappears inside the highest tier on the latter list, as last frame it sat at No. 14. The hugely popular project almost finds its way back inside the top 40 on the Billboard 200 as it jumps from No. 61 to No. 45. Consumption of the project grew by more than 14% from one frame to the next, as it moved 16,650 equivalent units compared to 14,600 units the week prior (per Luminate). Folklore Leads Swift's Album Chart Wins Swift sees eight of her albums appear on at least one Billboard chart apiece this week. Several titles, including The Tortured Poets Department, Reputation, and Red (Taylor's Version), live on two tallies at the same time. Folklore is easily the winner, as it appears on four rankings, doubling the total number of appearances of her other most successful projects in America at the moment. 'August' Drives Folklore's Seasonal Popularity Somewhat surprisingly, while consumption of the song 'August' is largely to thank for the success of Folklore, the song itself does not appear on any Billboard charts at the moment. The tune was never pushed as a single, but remains a fan favorite nonetheless. 'August' reached No. 23 on the Hot 100 and gave Swift one of her first top 10 hits on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart in its initial heyday. Folklore's Grammy-Winning Legacy When Folklore arrived in July 2020, it became Swift's seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, where it debuted with more than 846,000 equivalent units, making one of the largest opening sums in recent memory at the time. It went on to win Album of the Year at the Grammys – another such success for the singer-songwriter – and has remained a top performer ever since, helped by tracks like 'Cardigan,' 'The 1,' and 'Exile' alongside 'August.'

Morgan Wallen's Song Jumps 2,700% In Sales In One Week

Morgan Wallen continues to dominate the Billboard charts with his album I'm the Problem and the many, many songs featured on its lengthy tracklist. Half a dozen tracks have been pushed as proper singles from the set, and several continue to lead the charge on various rankings and gain across radio formats. The country superstar recently surprise-dropped a reworking of one album cut, 'Miami.' Originally a solo country track, it now features rappers Lil Wayne and Rick Ross, and that remix has become a hit in its own right, as 'Miami' enjoys a massive sales surge across the United States. Morgan Wallen's Remix Soars Interest in 'Miami' exploded after it became a country/hip-hop hybrid. Sales of the track when it was last a solo tune numbered under 200 the week before the Wayne/Ross remix arrived. The following frame, it sold just under 4,000 copies in the U.S., according to Luminate. That's a growth of more than 2,700% from one frame to the next, and it's all thanks to the two hip-hop legends. 'Miami' Tops Country Digital Song Sales Chart That massive growth in pure purchases helps 'Miami' become a bestseller on a handful of Billboard tallies focused entirely on purchases. The tune debuts at No. 1 on the Country Digital Song Sales chart this week. Wallen earns his eighteenth leader on that list, while both Wayne and Ross hit the top spot on the ranking for the first time. Wallen has now sent 55 tracks to the list of the top-selling country-only cuts in the U.S., and 45 of those have reached the top 10. The same tune, which credits all three musicians, opens inside the top 10 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart. 'Miami' begins at No. 9 there, where all three superstars collect another smash. Streaming Success Fuels 'Miami' 'Miami' didn't just sell well following the exciting re-release, it also became a huge win on streaming platforms. The remixed tune, which still hasn't been pushed as a proper single from I'm the Problem, launches in the runner-up spot on the Country Streaming Songs chart, where Wallen blocks himself from ruling. 'What I Want,' his collaboration with Tate McRae, is still in charge 11 weeks into its lifespan on that roster. The tune also reenters the all-genre Streaming Songs tally at No. 9 — a new all-time high — and it becomes a special top 10 for all involved. New Peaks Across Multiple Billboard Charts 'Miami' doesn't hit the top 10 on the Hot 100, but it soars to No. 21 as it reenters the list of the most consumed songs in America. That's a new peak for the track, and all three musicians find their way to the tally. 'Miami' is also a new top 10 smash on the Hot Country Songs chart, leaping from No. 40, where it sat in its eighth stay, all the way to No. 5.
