Italy national team head coach Luciano Spalletti says that he 'cried for two hours' watching his former club Napoli during their celebrations after winning the 2024-25 Serie A title.
Spalletti was at the helm in Naples in 2022-23, when the Partenopei won their first Scudetto in over 30 years, dating back to the Diego Maradona era. Napoli have since won their second league title in three years, claiming the honours for 2024-25 in the final round of the season.

Spalletti, now head coach of the Italy national team, did not send any public messages to his former club in the immediate aftermath of their 2024-25 Scudetto, but has since had an opportunity to congratulate his old club during his press conference at Coverciano on Sunday.

The CT revealed that he spoke privately with Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who is also part of the Italy squad for the upcoming June World Cup qualifiers.
He also insists that 'full credit' must go to Napoli head coach Antonio Conte, who helped turn the team around following a 10th place finish in Serie A last season.

Spalletti added that he cried 'for two hours' while watching Napoli celebrate during their parade through the city of Naples last week.
'I didn't make any posts, but of course I sent Di Lorenzo a message to congratulate him on what they achieved, something extraordinary, especially after the tough moment they came from,' Spalletti said at his press conference on Sunday, attended by Football Italia.
'But full credit must go to Conte and the players for what they showed throughout the entire season,' he added.

'They were a real team from start to finish. Consistent performances and a growing understanding of the game, refined over time.
'The rest is thanks to the greatness of the Neapolitan supporters. I cried for two hours watching the parade. All I can say is well done, really well done.'

Inter open talks with Fabregas to replace Inzaghi

Reports in Italy claim that Inter have already opened discussions with Como head coach Cesc Fabregas as the Nerazzurri search for a replacement for the recently-departed Simone Inzaghi. Inter confirmed on Tuesday that Inzaghi has left the club by mutual consent following a meeting with the club's senior management earlier in the day. EPA-EFE/FILIP SINGER Inzaghi is expected to join Al-Hilal on an initial two-year contract until the summer of 2027, is expected to receive around €26m per season in wages, and is likely to be in charge in time for the start of the FIFA Club World Cup with his first game falling against Real Madrid on June 18. Inter approach Fabregas to replace Inzaghi Inter will also be involved in Club World Cup action from mid-June onwards, and will need to have a coach in the dugout at the start of the tournament, whether that be an interim or a permanent Inzaghi replacement. The relevant parties are expected to remain in contact until a definitive decision is reached. Atletico Madrid make move for Theo Hernandez amid Al Hilal links

Atletico Madrid are in the market for a new left-back this summer, and one option being considered is Theo Hernandez. The 27-year-old is very familiar with Los Colchoneros, having come through the ranks at the club's academy before a controversial move to Real Madrid in 2017. Hernandez later joined Milan in 2019, and over the last six years, he has become one of the world's best left-backs. But he now appears destined to leave the Serie A giants this summer, and he would be available for a rather affordable price as his contract is due to expire in 12 months' time. Atletico Madrid take steps towards signing Theo Hernandez Hernandez has also been linked with a return to Real Madrid, but at this stage, re-signing for Atleti is a more realistic possibility. And that is because talks have taken place between the cluh and his representatives, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. Advertisement It is reported that Hernandez would be available for a fee in the region of €35m, which is a figure that Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are believed to be all over. They are advanced in their interest of the France international, which means that Atleti would be playing catch-up in their pursuit. Atleti do not have enough interest to commit to a €35m offer, although that could change if Hernandez gave priority to a return to the club where he started his career. But at this stage, he is not doing so, which makes it more likely that he joins Al Hilal. There is good reason for Atleti to be moving for a new left-back this summer, given the struggles that they have had in the position over the last few years. Hernandez would have been a good option, but it does make some sense that he is not being overly pursued.
