New Zealand woman arrested after 2-year-old girl found alive in suitcase stowed in bus luggage
The bus driver noticed movement inside the bag during a planned stop at the settlement of Kaiwaka, north of Auckland, after a passenger asked for access to the luggage compartment, Detective Inspector Simon Harrison said in a statement.
When the driver opened the suitcase they discovered the 2-year-old girl, who was very hot but otherwise appeared physically unharmed, Harrison said.
The child was taken to a hospital, where she remained Sunday night local time.
The arrested woman was charged with ill-treatment or neglect of a child and was due to appear in court Monday. She was not named by law enforcement.

The new chief constable for Hampshire police has pledged to deliver 'exceptional policing' as he starts in the role. 'We are both clear that our aim, going forward, is to drive up charge rates, protect communities and get more bobbies on the beat. 'Together we want to make Hampshire and the Isle of Wight the safest places to live, work and visit.'

Teenager killed in crash and woman injured as man arrested
A man has been arrested after a crash in a village near Oxford killed a teenager and injured a woman. Thames Valley Police said a white Kia Rio 2 left Cuddesdon Road, near the junction of The Green in Horspath and hit a telegraph pole at about 10.20pm on Sunday (August 3). The driver, a 19-year-old man, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. A black BMW 3 Series, which had been in convoy with the Kia, remained at the scene after the collision, police say. The driver, a 22-year-old man from south Oxfordshire, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drink-driving, dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He has been released under investigation. Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Lyndsey Blackaby, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Tragically, a young man has died following this collision. "Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this extremely difficult time.
