Where does Florida football's Billy Napier fall in CBS Sports' SEC coach rankings?
Last year, Napier was ranked No. 13 on the list, although moving up two spots doesn't feel like much of an improvement despite finishing the season on a four-game win streak. Included in those victories were then-ranked No. 21 LSU, No. 9 Ole Miss, Florida State and Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl.
But that late-season surge didn't move the needle much going into this year's SEC coach rankings.
Napier is entering his fourth and most important season with the Florida Gators and has garnered an exact record of 19-19 during his tenure.
CBS Sports' Brad Crawford emphasized the reliance that Napier has on quarterback DJ Lagway. If Lagway struggles, it could be Napier's last season in Gainesville.
Here is everything Crawford wrote about Napier heading into the 2025 college football season.
What CBS Sports said about Napier
"Napier slashed his way through what many considered the toughest schedule in college football history last fall and lived to fight another day with the Gators. And part of the reason for optimism under his tutelage is the emergence of D.J. Lagway at quarterback, a former elite recruit that Napier managed to hold onto before unleashing as a freshman in 2024.
"Lagway's the singlemost important player for the former Louisiana coach and likely determines whether his tenure will be successful or not."

These two SEC matchups for Florida basketball among best 2026 intraconference games
The Southeastern Conference has been an absolute powerhouse on the collegiate parquet over the past few years, exemplified by both the Florida Gators' 2025 national championship as well as deep runs by a few of their league peers. While the sport has seen some turnover as players leave their schools for either the NBA draft or the transfer portal, the balance of power still leans heavily toward the SEC, which once again appears to be a college basketball powerhouse this coming season. The conference schedule does not kick off until just after the New Year, but it is not too early to start thinking about the marquee matchups that lie just ahead. With that in mind, CBS Sports writer Cameron Salerno put together a list of five favorite intraconference battles ranked in order, with the Orange and Blue getting two mentions. Here is what he had to offer. Florida vs. Alabama: Jan. 31, O'Connell Center, Gainesville "On the same day Arkansas hosts Kentucky, Alabama travels to Gainesville to face the reigning national champion," Salerno begins regarding his second-ranked SEC matchup. "Alabama guard Labaron Philon sent shockwaves through the sport when pulled out of the NBA Draft process at the last minute to return for his sophomore season. His return, along with the addition of former five-star prospect Jalil Bethea, gives the Crimson Tide a strong one-two punch in the backcourt," he continues. "Meanwhile, Florida should again boast one of the nation's best frontcourts thanks to key draft decisions from Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon and Rueben Chinyelu. Haugh never formally entered the draft but significantly boosted his stock during the Gators' title run. "Florida swept Alabama last season, and this is the only scheduled meeting between the SEC rivals. Could this be the game Alabama bounces back? It won't be easy to do in a hostile road environment." Florida vs. Kentucky: Feb. 14, O'Connell Center, Gainesville "Kentucky defeated Florida at home 106-100 in its SEC opener last season. Luckily for college basketball fans, the two rivals will play twice during the regular season this year," Salerno offers on his fourth-ranked face-off. "Kentucky and Florida (17-1 on FanDuel) are tied for the fourth-best odds behind Purdue, Houston and Duke to win the 2026 national title. Florida has three of the top returners in the sport. Kentucky reloaded with the additions of Jasper Johnson, Malachi Moreno and Braydon Hawthorne. This home-and-home series could decide the SEC regular-season title," he concludes. CBS: Among traded future picks in NBA draft, Rockets control three of top seven
Among traded first-round NBA draft assets for future years, the Houston Rockets currently own three of the top seven, per Sam Quinn of CBS Sports. Among NBA teams, the Houston Rockets don't have the highest quantity of future draft assets, but they are among the best when it comes to quality. Sam Quinn of CBS Sports recently completed his annual exercise ranking the value of future first-round picks that have already been traded. In total, that is 63 at the moment. Among those traded picks, he has these in the top seven: 7.) 2027 Brooklyn Nets (unprotected swap right) 5.) 2027 Phoenix Suns (unprotected) 3.) 2029 Phoenix Suns (unprotected swap right) Quinn's explanations for each choice are available via the CBS Sports article. In both cases, the swap rights are highly likely to be used, since the Rockets would appear to have a significantly better future outlook than either the Suns or Nets. What is most noteworthy is that no other NBA team has more than one asset among the top nine on Quinn's list. Houston, by comparison, has three (and all are in the top seven). It's important to note that this is strictly a ranking of draft picks that have already been traded. It does not include picks that are owned by their original team, i.e. a future Houston selection that is currently owned by the Rockets (the next is 2028). But for trade leverage purposes, owning picks that have already been traded can be uniquely valuable. As an example, if Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo was to demand a trade in the coming weeks or months, Brooklyn could hypothetically offer its unprotected 2026 first-round selection as part of a package. However, sending Antetokounmpo to the Nets would inherently lower the value of that 2026 pick to Milwaukee, since the presence of a perennial All-Star and Most Valuable Player (MVP) candidate would make Brooklyn win many more games — and thus, decrease the value of that team's draft equity. Houston, hypothetically, can get around this conundrum by offering assets from other teams that would be unaffected by any star player landing with the Rockets. It doesn't appear that any such player is on the trade market at the moment, but it is potentially useful that Houston has this path available in the months and years ahead. Here's where CBS Sports has Florida football in its preseason 136 rankings
Just over three weeks remain before Florida football returns to the collegiate gridiron and there is no doubt that the Gator Nation is ready for the upcoming campaign. Spirits are high in Gainesville for the first time in a while, thanks to a strong 8-5 finish last fall and a Gasparilla Bowl victory over the Tulane Green Wave. With quarterback DJ Lagway under center and a battle-tested roster returning, the early prognostications are mostly bullish on the Orange and Blue despite some injury concerns with the former. With the clock ticking down on the opening kickoff of the 2025 campaign, CBS Sports writer Chip Patterson put together his full ranking of all 136 FBS schools, placing Florida at No. 12 — between the No. 11 Arizona State Sun Devils and No. 13 Illinois Illini. Compare that with its No. 17 ranking in the US LBM Coaches Poll's preseason edition. SEC schools in CBS Sports college football preseason top 25 A total of 10 Southeastern Conference schools made the top 25, headlined by the top-ranked Texas Longhorns.
