Sick XL Bully breeders turned our town into dog attack hellhole by swapping life on the dole to smuggle in £12k hounds
Ruthless dog breeders have spread terror across the Welsh community by selling banned XL Bullies for up to £12,000 per dog.

And densely-populated housing estates around Caerphilly in the 'Valleys' area of south Wales have seen a spate of attacks by the illegal dogs in recent years.
Most notably, schoolboy Jack Lis, 10, was fatally savaged by an XL Bully at a house on the Penyrhoel estate in 2021 and, a year later, beloved gran, Shirley Patrick, died 18 days after being mauled by an American XL Bully less than half a mile away.
In April 2023, a five-month-old baby was rushed to hospital after an attack in Penyrheol.
In the months that followed, dozens more people in Penyrhoel and neighbouring Graig-y-Rhacca were attacked by XL Bullies or close variants of the breed, including five-year-old Rory Colwill and his best friend Conor Crowley, seven, who were almost killed by a Pocket Bully dog - a cross between an American Bully and a Patterdale terrier.
Today, The Sun can reveal the wave of attacks in this tight-knit community started as the UK began to emerge from lockdown.
Two men in their early 20s, who have lived in Caerphilly their whole lives, claim to know the culprits.
One of the men, who pleaded with us not to reveal the pair's identities, told us: "It all started a few years ago when a couple of people from round here went to Belgium and brought back four XL Bully dogs in their VW camper van.
"It was all legal. The dogs had passports and everything, but when they bought them back here, they bred the f… out of them.
"These types of bully dogs are worth thousands and there was easy money to be made.
"There's no work around these parts. Most of the local people are living on benefits. It's been like this for years.
"Dog breeding proved to be a good way to make a living. They used the four dogs they brought into the country to breed masses of pups, then sold them for up to £12,000 a time.
'Then the people who bought the pups started breeding them with other types of dogs and it just got completely out of control. Because the next generation of pups were cross breeds and not automatically illegal, it got hard for the authorities to police.
'But they were just as aggressive in the wrong hands and they started attacking people. That's why there were so many victims. For every one that got reported, there were another 20 that weren't.
'It quickly got out of hand and now there are dog attacks here every day."
Vile mauling
11
Locals were shocked when the vicious attacks went further, causing the two tragic deaths in November 2021 and December 2022.
'It was horrific when Jack Lis died after he was savaged by a dog called Beast, and then grandmother Shirley Patrick was killed.
"That was horrible. She had dementia and the dog just ripped her head open.
"A couple of days later I was told the bloke whose dog it was had been seen in the pub drinking and laughing.
"After that, the authorities and the police cracked down hard.
"I've been told that since those attacks, there have been between 500 to 1,000 dogs put down.
"You won't see many dogs around here anymore, people are ashamed to walk dogs.
"Those that do tend to be looked down upon, even if they are ordinary dogs.
"It's a close community here and we all try to look out for each other, but these tragedies have really knocked people sideways."
Overwhelmed owner
However, the men also had some sympathy for the owner of 'Beast', Brandon Heydon, who was jailed for four and a half years in 2022 over Jack's death.
'He was only eighteen when he was given the killer dog - we all knew him, he wasn't a bad guy," said one.
"But he honestly didn't know what he had taken on. The dog proved a killer and he went to prison for it.
"He's out now but not living around here anymore. It's torn him apart and he is full of remorse because of what happened .
"I don't think he could have come back to this area because I don't think he would be welcome, so he has had to go and live somewhere else and start over."
Intimidating yobs
11
Richard Evans, 41, who used to work at nearby Greggs until he had to quit due to a medical problem, said: "Youngsters congregate around the chippy and the shop here in Penyrhoel and, yes, there used to be dogs here. It was pretty intimidating.
"I've lived here for around five years and have a five-year-old little girl, so obviously I'm very careful not to let her out unaccompanied.
"If anything happened to her like little Jack I don't know how I'd carry on.
"The trouble is the breed has got into the wrong hands and because the people who buy them don't know how to look after them, people get hurt.
"Dogs are the same as people, if they are not brought up properly when they are young they can run wild and that's what I reckon has happened here.
"How you are bought up is how you end up.'
Call for tougher laws
11
The mother of Rory Colwill, Chelsea, has campaigned vigorously for tougher laws against illegal dog breeding since her son and his pal Conor were attacked.
She said: 'The boys were so terrified after the attack that they wouldn't leave the house for a long time.'
Chelsey, 31, had to punch, stamp and kick the "out-of-control" animal as its jaws locked around Conor's hip when it pounced on the boys in the street without warning.
She said: 'Rory is still so traumatised by what happened. This dog should never have been allowed outdoors without a muzzle. His owner was not fit to have a dog like this because he clearly could not control it.
'He just stood and watched while this animal tried to kill the boys.
'We need new and better laws to protect the public, such as making owners of potentially dangerous dogs hold a special licence and more safety checks.
'Maybe the types of breeds we allow also needs looking at again.'
Chief Superintendent Jason White, of Gwent Police, said: 'We have seen a rise in the number of reports for the offence of dogs acting out of control causing injury and Gwent is no exception to this national increase in reported offences.
'But with that rise in reports comes an increased awareness of attacks involving dogs and their impact in our communities, meaning more people are confident in reporting these offences to us and trusting us to take decisive actions, such as seizing dogs, when necessary.
'Our officers take a proactive stance on dealing with dogs involved in any kind of attack, but we also want to promote to all our communities that responsible dog ownership is vital in keeping the public safe from harm.'

Prince Andrew told to 'brace himself' as explosive Epstein files to be made public
Disgraced Prince Andrew could find his name splashed across official US records as Congress prepares to release secret documents linked to the billionaire sex offender Prince Andrew has been told to 'brace himself' as explosive American government files on his paedophile pal Jeffrey Epstein are set to be made public within days. The disgraced Duke of York, already scarred by years of scandal, could find his name splashed across official US records as Congress prepares to release secret documents linked to the billionaire sex offender. On Friday, Congress will start receiving the first batch of papers from the Department of Justice. They have vowed to publish the files once victims' identities and other sensitive material have been blacked out. A House Oversight Committee spokesperson confirmed to the Mirror: 'The Committee intends to make the records public after thorough review to ensure all victims' identification and child sexual abuse material are redacted. The Committee will also consult with the DOJ to ensure any documents released do not negatively impact ongoing criminal cases and investigations.' The move piles pressure on Andrew, whose ties to Epstein - including accusations he repeatedly slept with the financier's 'teen sex slave' Virginia Giuffre - have left his royal reputation in tatters. Andrew has always vehemently denied all wrongdoing. A victim of Epstein today said the public release of the files would leave numerous high-profile men nervous, none more so than the Duke of York. 'Andrew should brace himself,' she said. 'When these files are finally made public, countless men, some of whom may have never been named before, will have to answer for their friendship with Jeffrey. Survivors like me have had to live with the shame and trauma while men in power carried on as if nothing happened." The woman, who is now 38 and accepted compensation from the Epstein victim fund, added: 'If your Prince's name is there, then he must answer for it. No amount of royal privilege, no titles, no lawyers should protect him from the truth. He should be ready, because the world will see exactly who was mixed up with Jeffrey and what they chose to ignore.' The files' public publication comes after famed US attorney Gloria Allred recently told The Mirror that Andrew, 65, should appear before US lawmakers to give evidence about his knowledge of Epstein. The lawyer, who represents several of the paedophiles' victims, said: 'All I can say is, now more than ever, he should come forward, and he could volunteer to testify publicly.' Congress is said to be moving fast, with insiders warning the first revelations could come 'in days rather than weeks.' Committee chairman James Comer said the documents would finally shed light on a saga the Trump administration has been accused of covering up. It comes after the Justice Department declared in July that 'no further disclosures' about Epstein were needed - a decision that outraged victims, campaigners, as well as the President's MAGA base. The US leader had campaigned for the White House on the promise he would make all the government's Epstein documents public. For years, America has been obsessed with so-called 'Epstein files' amid lurid speculation that the financier kept a secret list of powerful friends who enjoyed the company of underage girls. The FBI and DOJ insist no such list exists. However, earlier this year, former Attorney General Pam Bondi promised to release the files when she claimed, 'It's on my desk.' Donald Trump, who was a close friend of Epstein for over three decades, was often seen at parties in Palm Beach and Manhattan together and is now facing awkward questions of his own. His critics are circling, pointing to tech billionaire Elon Musk's claim that he is named in the files. Days after the Tesla owner made the claims, Trump's administration performed a U-turn, stating there were no files in existence. The move sparked civil war among Trump's MAGA base, with some splitting from him. Epstein, once a jet-set banker with links to presidents, princes and billionaires, died in his New York jail cell in August 2019. Officially ruled a suicide, his sudden death has fuelled years of conspiracy theories - with many believing he was murdered to stop him talking. Such rumours refuse to die, especially with the US government now forced to hand over files that could drag a string of rich and famous names back into the mud. For Prince Andrew, the threat could not be clearer. His car-crash BBC Newsnight interview, in which he insisted he didn't sweat and denied ever meeting accuser Giuffre, remains one of the most humiliating episodes in royal history. Though he later settled Giuffre's New York civil lawsuit with a reported £12 million payment, he has always denied wrongdoing.

African 'king and queen' evicted from Scottish Borders
Kofi Offeh from Ghana and Jean Gasho from Zimbabwe had been living in tents and documenting their lives on social media on land near Jedburgh that is owned by the Scottish Borders Council. In footage online, Offeh, a 36-year-old former opera singer, claims he is the messiah and a descendant of the biblical King David, with the couple referring to each other as King Atehehe and Queen Nandi. In one video shared online, Gasho gestures towards Offeh and stated: 'All hail the king of the north. 'All the messiah … the holy seed of David. You are the chosen one. The one to usher us to the promised land, here in the holy land of Scotland.' READ MORE: Labour are flouting FOI rules to keep Israel files secret. Here's their ploy The couple claim they have settled in a forest, with the intention of reclaiming land that was stolen from their ancestors in the Highlands 400 years ago. The group said they live a simple life and aim to fulfill a prophecy to establish their kingdom and bring other 'lost tribes' back to Scotland. (Image: Katielee Arrowsmith / SWNS) Local residents had raised concerns for the pair before the local authority said they had been removed. Further concerns were raised after they were joined by another woman, Asnat, along with her baby daughter. Videos posted online show Offeh and Gasho referring to Asnat as their 'handmaiden' and servant. According to the New York Post, Asnat, is actually Kaura Taylor, an American who has been reported missing from her home in Texas. It has also been reported that social services have since removed Asnat's child from her. A family friend of Asnat reportedly claimed Offeh and Gasho took advantage of her vulnerable state. 'Kaura has been groomed online and brought over to the UK by Jean Gasho and her husband,' she alleged in an online post. 'Please try to get her to safety and call the police.' (Image: Katielee Arrowsmith / SWNS) However, Asnat responded to the claims in her own video in which she states: 'To the UK authorities, I am not missing. Leave me alone. I am an adult not a helpless child.' Gasho and Offeh were previously based in northeast England and were due to stand trial on alleged child cruelty charges at Teesside crown court. However, the charges were dropped earlier this year. One Jedburgh resident told The Times: 'Kofi tells anyone who will listen that he is the messiah. 'Jean seems to have fallen for it hook, line and sinker. They were living with another woman in the woods. 'They claimed to be living in a mystical kingdom called Kubala, but the reality is that it was a muddy patch of land on the outskirts of Jedburgh.' He added: 'There are obvious concerns over their mental health and the authorities need to intervene.' The Scottish Borders Council confirmed they have removed Offeh, Gasho and Asnat and have provided provisions along with advice for housing options and other support services. A spokesperson said: 'We have been working with Police Scotland in relation to an illegal encampment by three occupants on council-owned property at Hartrigge near Jedburgh. 'This has included the provision of advice and information about housing options and other support services. 'A notice to eject was served by sheriff officers following which the group vacated the site. The site itself has since been cleared.'

Meredith Kercher's family lawyer slams Amanda Knox over new Disney murder drama
Francesco Maresca, the lawyer for the family of Meredith Kercher, has expressed his disgust at a new eight-part show dramatising the Brit student's horrific 2007 murder Meredith Kercher's family lawyer has launched a blistering broadside against Amanda Knox following the release of the American's new Disney series. The 38-year-old has executive-produced KJ Steinberg's eight-parter, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, which is based closely on her memoir. Actress Grace Van Patten plays Knox in the Disney-owned Hulu series. Now, following the show's New York premiere on Tuesday, for which the American appeared on the red carpet grinning alongside Monica Lewinsky, attorney Francesco Maresca has hit out. He told the Mirror: 'The important thing is that Amanda Knox clearly wants this case to continue. It would be nice and dignified to watch a program or TV show where everything is reconstructed, remembering the life and smile of poor Meredith." Mr Maresca added: 'Instead, once again, we have to witness an attempt to reshuffle the cards, and where the trailer states, 'Amanda fights tirelessly to prove her innocence and regain her freedom'. Once again, the focus is on Knox.' When the show was first announced last year, Meredith's sister Stephanie said: 'It is difficult to understand how this serves any purpose.' At the time, Mr Maresca said Knox's projects continued to be 'inappropriate and disrespectful towards the memory of Meredith,' claiming the Perugia trial had become a vehicle for Knox to monetise her notoriety. 'Mrs Knox, after so many years, should respect the silence and memory,' he said, as filming took place in the Italian town where the 21-year-old was killed. In November 2007, Leeds University student Meredith was sexually assaulted before her throat was slashed and she was stabbed 47 times while studying in Perugia. Her flatmate Knox and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were initially convicted of her murder along with drifter Rudy Guede. The couple were found guilty in 2009 but freed on appeal two years later. Their guilty verdict was reinstated in 2014 but quashed by Italy's top court in March 2015. Mum-of-two Knox has since capitalised on her experience, writing a book, recording numerous podcasts, and making several speaking appearances, some in Italy. Despite the objections from locals in Perugia and those close to Meredith, Knox pressed ahead with the series, with Lewinsky acting as executive producer. Their initial friendship, formed in 2017 at a speaking event two years after Italy's highest court cleared Knox and Sollecito, has developed into a professional partnership. This week, ahead of the premiere, she also spoke about explaining the case to her four-year-old daughter, Eureka, telling her: 'It's very simple. When Mommy was young, Mommy went to Italy, and she made friends and she had fun, but then someone hurt her friend, and the police thought Mommy hurt her friend, and so they put Mommy in jail. "Mommy was in jail for a long time, and she was very sad. But then one day, Mommy proved that she was innocent, and she got to go home, and then she met your daddy and had you and lived happily ever after.' Critics say the Hulu series and Knox's repeated public retellings amount to a relentless attempt to monetise a tragedy in which she was tangentially involved, rather than a genuine reckoning. Others have questioned whether such projects serve any purpose beyond self-promotion, noting the continued pain for Meredith's family and the sensationalism of revisiting the widely reported case. Guede was released after serving 13 years and has since been investigated for allegedly physically and sexually assaulting a former girlfriend since being freed.
