Robbers loot over Rs 14 crore gold, Rs 5 lakh cash from bank in MPs Jabalpur
The branch in Khitola area was without a security guard when robbers struck on Monday morning just after the bank opened for business for the day, they said.
The robbers looted 14.875 kg of gold kept in the locker and Rs 5 lakh cash from the bank's branch in Sehore tehsil, located about 50 km from the district headquarters, Jabalpur rural area additional superintendent of police Suryakant Sharma told reporters.
The heist took just 18 minutes, Jabalpur Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Atul Singh said, adding the robbers came on two motorcycles and entered the branch of ESAF Small Finance Bank wearing helmets.
'The bank branch did not have a security guard. There were six staffers at the time of the incident. The robbers entered the branch at 8.50 am and came out at 9.08 am. They fled on motorcycles. We have scanned CCTV cameras. They did not have weapons in their hands. One of the robbers had a firearm tucked under his belt," Singh said.
The bank staffers notified police 45 minutes after the incident following discussions with superior officials, the DIG said.
'Had they informed us in time, the robbers would have been caught. Efforts were on to nab the accused," Singh added.
The bank started its day at 8 am instead of its usual opening time of 10.30 am due to the ongoing festive season, according to sources. PTI LAL BNM RSY GK

Ashram school principal caught taking Rs 7,000 bribe to admit student
Latur, Aug 13 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has caught the principal of an ashram school, a government-run educational facility for tribal students, in Latur district of Maharashtra for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 7,000 to admit a student, officials said. The complainant in the case is a 24-year-old man who had earlier left education in Class IX due to personal reasons. He recently approached the authorities of Shankar Madhyamik Ashram School in Bortal Pati, Deglur Road in Udgir tehsil to seek admission there to continue his education, the ACB said. But in-charge principal Triveni Baburao Shere (41) allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 to secure his admission to Class X, it said. The complainant then approached the ACB and lodged a complaint on August 11. A verification was conducted the same day in the presence of panch witnesses, during which the accused reportedly repeated her demand. On August 12, ACB officials set up a trap and Shere was nabbed taking the bribe money from the complainant, the anti-graft agency said. A case has been registered against her under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Udgir Rural Police Station. BHOPAL: A video of INC MLA from Semariya in Rewa district, Abhay Mishra, referring to Rewa SP as 'Ardhanarishwar' has gone viral on social media. On Tuesday, INC leaders — including the state President and the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly — staged protests in Rewa under the party's Nyay Satyagraha, raising several issues, including the registration of an FIR against Mishra following a complaint by a former employee who alleged that the MLA had thrashed him. During the protest meeting, Mishra triggered a fresh controversy by making derogatory remarks and corruption allegations against the district's top police officer. Speaking from the stage, Mishra — the only Congress MLA from Rewa district — appeared visibly agitated as he targeted the Superintendent of Police (SP), calling him 'Ardhanarishwar' and explaining the term in a disparaging manner. He also accused the IPS officer of 'bowing to ministers' and accepting a monthly bribe of Rs 50 lakh.
