Princess Charlotte's 10th Birthday Photo Had a Surprising Royal First Thanks to Kate Middleton

Yahoo02-05-2025

Princess Charlotte celebrated a big birthday on Friday, May 2, as she turned 10 years old. Her mom, Kate Middleton, marked the young royal's milestone by capturing a photo of Charlotte sporting a camo jacket and grinning outdoors.
But, unlike previous royal birthday portraits, Charlotte's had a key difference.
Notably, the photo was captured on an iPhone. Princess Kate took the photo herself during a visit to Cumbria in the northwest of England earlier this year, per SkyNews.
Prince William and Kate release annual birthday photos for each of their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — but the couple has never used an iPhone to mark a birthday milestone for any of the young royals until now.
The Princess of Wales — who previously described herself as an "enthusiastic amateur photographer" — has been spotted using a variety of different cameras through the years. According to The Independent, the Fujifilm X-T3 is one of her favorites, and she was seen holding the camera in an image shared to promote the 2020 book Hold Still: A Portrait of Our Nation.
Princess Kate has also used Canon cameras, including to photograph Holocaust survivors with their grandchildren for a portrait exhibition.

Before Charlotte's May 2 birthday, William and Kate marked Louis' 7th birthday on April 23 by sharing a new portrait taken by photographer Josh Shinner. In the snap, Prince William and Princess Kate's youngest child smiles to show off his two missing front teeth.
William and Kate also released a video from behind the scenes of Louis' birthday photoshoot, showing the young prince having fun posing for the camera.

Next up is Prince George's birthday. Prince William and Princess Kate's eldest son will turn 12 on July 22. Kate took a photo of George for his 11th birthday last year, sharing a black-and-white portrait of the young prince smiling while dressed in a sharp blazer and white shirt.
In a version of his portrait shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales' Instagram Stories, George sported a friendship-style bracelet — possibly linked to his evening out at Taylor Swift's London concert in June 2024.
Princess Charlotte and Prince William were also in attendance at the Wembley Stadium show, where the three royals snapped a selfie with the singer and also met her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who praised "superstar" Charlotte as "the highlight" of the night on his New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce podcast.

Apple's New tvOS 26 Is Actually All About Karaoke for Me

Apple's tvOS might not get the same attention as iOS or macOS, but there's one feature I can't wait to try. Apple's new tvOS 26 is here, and the one feature I can't wait to try has nothing to do with TV. At WWDC 2025, Apple introduced 'Sing-along' sessions, which sounds like a traumatic summer camp experience but is actually a cool new karaoke feature that I can't wait to test out for myself. According to Apple, the feature allows you to turn your iPhone into a 'handheld microphone' that can be used on Apple TV to amplify your voice for karaoke and 'belt out [your] favorite songs.' Sing-along sessions also allow other singers to 'queue up songs or react with onscreen emoji,' so you can make karaoke a more communal experience, though there's nothing to stop your selfish friends from queuing up several songs in a row. You know who you are. Like any karaoke app, Sing-along uses real-time lyrics and visual effects to 'light up the screen' and can even use a translation feature that will help port over a song in a different language to something you can read, understand, and sing. As excited as I am to try Sing-along, I'm also skeptical that an iPhone mic is the ideal hardware for karaoke—there's a chance it might sound pretty bad if you have an older device (like I do). Then again, plenty of people use fairly cheap Bluetooth mics at home and don't bat an eyelash, so their experience may really be on par here. The good news is, if karaoke isn't doing it for you, Apple introduced other new tvOS features, like one that grants more control over when the option to choose a profile comes up. That should be great for anyone who's in a multi-person household. Apple says, '…users will now have the choice to automatically display profiles when Apple TV wakes, allowing them to quickly get back to their recommendations and Watchlist in the TV app and playlists in Apple Music.' There are also some tweaks to FaceTime, which include 'Contact Posters' on Apple TV that show a contact's custom photo and name when you start a FaceTime call and an expansion of Live Captions that includes French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, and Spanish. FaceTime audio and call notifications will now show up onscreen based on whichever profile is being used at the time. This is a developing story…

Judge dismisses Justin Baldoni's defamation claim against former co-star Blake Lively

A judge in the US has dismissed actor Justin Baldoni's $400m (£295m) defamation lawsuit against his It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively. Baldoni filed the countersuit against his former co-star, 37, in response to her launching legal action accusing him of sexual harassment against her while filming the 2024 movie. The 41-year-old had accused Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, their publicist, the New York Times, and others of orchestrating a smear campaign to extort him. He accused Lively of trying to "hijack" the movie and then blaming him when her "disastrous" promotional approach prompted an online backlash against her. "It Ends With Us" garnered mixed reviews, but grossed more than $351m (£259m) worldwide, according to reports. In a statement, lawyers representing Lively, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, said: "Today's opinion is a total victory and a complete vindication for Blake Lively, along with those that Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer Parties dragged into their retaliatory lawsuit, including Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Sloane and The New York Times. "As we have said from day one, this "$400 million" lawsuit was a sham, and the court saw right through it. "We look forward to the next round, which is seeking attorneys' fees, treble damages and punitive damages against Baldoni, Sarowitz, Nathan, and the other Wayfarer Parties who perpetrated this abusive litigation." Sky News has approached Baldoni's representatives for comment. This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly. Please refresh the page for the latest version. Apple debuts a new dedicated Games app

At WWDC on Monday, Apple unveiled a new dedicated gaming app that is designed to centralize gaming experiences on Apple devices. The app will serve as a launcher for games and allow users to track achievements and view leaderboards. The Games app will also include social features, including a "Play Together" tab that lets you see what your friends are playing, compare scores, and invite them to play with you. There's also "Challenges," which is a new way to compete with friends in score-based showdowns. For developers, Challenges are built on top of Game Center leaderboards, so single-player games can turned into competition with friends. The Games app has five tabs: Home, Arcade, Play Together, Library, and Search. The app and link to the App Store's games section and highlight Apple Arcade, the tech giant's $6.99-a-month subscription offering. Previous reports have indicated that the new Games app will be preinstalled on the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV set-top box later this year. This article originally appeared on TechCrunch at
