Chiefs vs. Cardinals: DB Jaden Hicks intercepts QB Kyler Murray in preseason action

USA Today4 days ago
The Kansas City Chiefs took an early lead over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 of the NFL preseason, and second-year defensive back Jaden Hicks did his best to make sure that the defending AFC champions wouldn't face a deficit while he was in the game.
After an Arizona fumble on the opening kickoff gave Patrick Mahomes the chance he needed to score a touchdown, Hicks stepped in to intercept Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray on Kansas City's first defensive stand.
Take a look at this video of Hicks' outstanding pick, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs' official account:
Given the departure of veteran safety Justin Reid in free agency, Hicks is expected to step into an important role for Kansas City's defense this season.
If he can continue putting together impressive showings in the preseason, Hicks could soon become a household name as a key contributor for the reigning AFC champions.

Kansas City Chiefs OL coach Andy Heck recaps Josh Simmons' preseason debut

During Tuesday's training camp press conference, Kansas City Chiefs offensive line coach Andy Heck shared his thoughts on rookie left tackle Josh Simmons' preseason debut last Saturday. "It's a big job for anybody coming in to learn the details of the offense, assignments (and) techniques. Every play has a thousand little details and so picking those things up, that was job one in the spring where he (Josh Simmons) was doing less physical work with us." said Heck, "Since he has gotten to training camp, he's been able to every day add one or two of these details that are important to each play. So, I've seen him steadily improve, and his understanding - and we're able to have better conversations about what's going on and I think that'swhat we'll see his trajectory do is just go like this (points up)." Simmons played briefly in the starting lineup against the Arizona Cardinals but made a positive impression. Heck was happy with Simmons' performance, but refuses to compare him to anyone he's worked with through his coaching career. "I'd hesitate to compare guys; every guy is different. I'm still in a learning process myself, of what makes him (Josh Simmons) tick, how does he learn best (and) how can I help him get better? There's constant communication there," said Heck, "But I would say he's certainly as talented a player as I've ever been around. He loves the game. So, those are two good things: when you're talented and you love the game, and you want to be the best, you've got a great chance to be a good one." Simmons earned Third-Team All-Big Ten honors for the 2024 National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Saturday's game was his first since suffering a patellar tendon injury, ending his college career.

WATCH: Taylor Swift pokes fun at 'male sports fans' on Kelce brothers New Heights podcast

The entertainment and sports worlds are set to collide tonight when Jason and Travis Kelce welcome Taylor Swift to their "New Heights" podcast for the first time. The highly anticipated show will feature Swift discussing her upcoming new album, "The Life of a Showgirl," in addition to other topics that have been teased in social media clips throughout the week. While the Kelce brothers generally stick to sports during their podcast, they occasionally have to deal with backlash in some circles when the subject turns to Travis' romance with the pop music icon. In a clip released this morning, Swift pokes a little fun at those haters. "I think we all know that if there's one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens, it's more of me," she joked. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME COMINGTAYLOR SWIFT. TONIGHT. 7PM ET. FANTASY FOOTBALL: Taylor Swift-inspired team names for 2025 While the Kelce brothers are obviously big fans of Swift's music, she hasn't always been such a diehard football fan. Travis goes into some of the details of how she deepened her knowledge of the game since they started dating two years ago in a cover story for GQ magazine. But now that she's fully on board "as a fan of 'that guy on the Chiefs,'" as Jason said in introducing her, Swift can now add "19 wins, two AFC titles and a Super Bowl" to her list of career accolades.
