Filmmaker Atlee has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology for his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema. The event, held at the university's convocation ceremony, saw Atlee return to the very campus where his dreams of storytelling first took shape.
In a moving speech, Atlee became emotional as he addressed the audience. Reflecting on his days as a student, he said, 'It's surreal to be honoured by the same university where I once walked in with big dreams. It was here that I learned the power of belief.'
The director also expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who supported him along the way. 'My parents stood by me till I became a filmmaker. But the one who shaped who I am is my wife, Priya Atlee. And the person who's made me a better human is my son,' he shared.
Best known for directing blockbuster films such as 'Raja Rani', 'Theri', 'Mersal', 'Bigil', and the pan-India hit 'Jawan' starring Shah Rukh Khan, Atlee's journey has been one of grit, passion, and perseverance. The university recognised his achievements and global impact on Indian filmmaking.
Allu Arjun, who will be collaborating with Atlee for his next film, congratulated him via a post on X. 'Big congratulations to @Atlee_dir garu on receiving the honorary doctorate. Really happy to see your passion and craft being celebrated at this level. Wishing you many more heights ahead (sic),' he wrote.
The honorary doctorate marks yet another milestone in Atlee's career.

"He taught me to never rely on shortcuts or influence": Virat Kohli's emotional Father's Day tribute to his late father
New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): On the occasion of Father's Day, Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli shared a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Prem Kohli, reflecting on the values and strength he inherited from him. In a deeply personal message he posted on Sunday, Kohli opened up about a pivotal moment from his childhood that shaped his approach to life and success. Kohli took to his official Instagram handle and posted a beautiful picture along with a message, 'He taught me to never rely on shortcuts or influence -- because if you truly have it in you, hard work will show if you don't have the will to work for it, then maybe you don't deserve it yet. When I was offered an easier path once, he refused it for calm conviction, he said, 'If you're good enough, you'll find your way. And if not, it's better to know that early.' That one moment shaped how I live, work, and show up in the Father's Day to all the fathers whose quiet strength becomes our lifelong compass.' The former Indian captain recounted a moment when he was once offered an easier path in life--something many would have accepted without hesitation but his father declined it on his behalf, making a decision that would go on to define Kohli's attitude toward discipline and self-belief. Virat recently bid adieu to the Test format with a heartfelt note on Instagram, days after his long-time compatriot Rohit Sharma retired from the format. Virat's 14-year journey in the whites transformed India into a result-producing machine. He infused aggression and the culture of fitness into a team riddled with youth and experience. In a career that redefined the demands of the game, Virat scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries and 31 fifties, and finished as India's fourth-highest run-getter in the format. He recently lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). (ANI)

Opening up space and nuclear sectors most unexpected decisions of Modi government: Minister Jitendra Singh
File photo: Space minister Jitendra Singh NEW DELHI: Space minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday that opening the space sector to private enterprises and this year's announcement allowing foreign investment in the nuclear sector are 'some of the most unexpected decisions made in the last 11 years under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi'. On ushering in reforms, the minister said: 'Over the last 10 years, some of the most unexpected decisions made were not even demanded, like opening the space to the private sector and this year's announcement about the nuclear sector... When it was realised that to move on from where we were, we could not wholly depend on government sources and resources, PM Modi allowed us to bring in the private sector and the results have been phenomenal'. About the space sector, Singh said: 'We were a minimal economy till about 4-5 years ago. Today the sector is worth $8 bn and the pace of its growth is so fast that in the next 8-10 years, we hope to grow five times more to $45 bn. Which means that in the years to come, India's space economy is going to be a very important component of its growth story..." Under PM Modi's leadership, India is not just chasing the future—it's engineering it. 'With the Rs 6,003.25-cr National Quantum Mission, which involves 150+ scientists, and 43 top institutions, Bharat is boldly shaping the next frontier with Quantum technology, using Indian talent to make a global impact,' he pointed out.
