It's no secret that self-tanning can sometimes go terribly, terribly wrong. Sometimes it ends up too dark, extremely orange, or streaky, and you need a quick fix. Or maybe there's extra buildup around the knees, ankles, and fingers—spots notorious for screaming, 'THIS IS A FAKE TAN!' But with a few tips and tricks, you can fix those messy spots or start over when things have gone completely awry. Whether you're looking to immediately remove the self-tan after applying, you have a few days to let it wear off, or you need to get if off your face ASAP, we have you covered. And if you're looking for a new, trusted self-tanner, check out some of our faves. Here, find 9 products to help fade your self-tan in no time, with input from Sophie Evans, St. Tropez skin finishing expert and celebrity self-tanner; Jules Von Hep, Isle of Paradise founder and celebrity tanning expert; and Alexandra DiMarchi, Tan-Luxe global tanning expert.
When it comes to self-tanning, St. Tropez is a tried and true brand. After leaving this mousse on for just five minutes, your tan will disappear, whether you just applied it or it's a week old. This product is so gentle, you will be primed and ready for your next tan with no down time. For best results, scrub the product away in the shower with a mitt or exfoliator. 'The Prep and Maintain Tan Remover Mousse from St. Tropez will not only detox your skin with the help of bicarbonate soda, urea, and cotton extract, but it will also make your skin the perfect PH balance ready for a fresh new coat of self-tan,' says Evans.
This aloe-infused product is great at quickly fading a lingering tan. Reviewers suggest leaving on for between 10 and 15 minutes, a bit longer than the brand's five minute recommendation. When showering, make sure to scrub the product off with a mitt or loofah to ensure the tan is evenly removed.
No matter what product you are using to remove your tan, the St. Tropez Tan Removal Mitt will always be your trusty sidekick. After using your removal product of choice, buff wet skin with the mitt to make sure all of the unwanted tan is removed. If you've noticed extra dark spots of tan on your palms or between your fingers, dampen the area and scrub away with the mitt. Since the mitt is also exfoliating dead skin, make sure to hydrate afterwards to nourish the moisture barrier. This will leave your skin baby smooth and prepped for your next self-tanning session.
While this product isn't specifically geared towards tan removal, it's exactly what you need to get off that slightly orange tint that just won't go away. The skin on your face is much more delicate than the skin on your body, so it is important to use a gentle product. Because the skin on the face has such a high cell turnover, the self tan will likely only last a few days, but this product will expedite the process. This AHA exfoliant will not only remove the tan but will brighten the skin and diminish dark spots.
For a no-scrub removal, 'Just mist all over skin until totally saturated, lather, and leave for five minutes. Then, just wash off in the shower, buffing skin gently until the tan is fully removed,' says Von Hep. The formula includes glycolic acid which works to exfoliate away your tan, but it's also filled with avocado, coconut, and chia seed oils that help to hydrate sensitive skin.
'Exfoliating is the best way to get rid of an old tan,' says DiMarchi. There are several products on the market that help dissolve self-tanner, but using a body scrub or exfoliating mitt is the key to removing all of the pigment. Plus, it'll leave your skin extra smooth and prepped for your next tanning sesh. Oils can also help to remove tanner, while hydrating and plumping the skin at the same time. But be careful to not let the oil sit on your skin for longer than five minutes, because it can make the tan set in even more.
Nope! 'Just make sure the remover products are fully rinsed off before applying a fresh layer of self-tan,' says Von Hep. However, if the specific tanner you use suggests waiting up to 24 hours, Evans recommends you do so in order to avoid any irritation. Lastly, always remember to moisturize after applying a fresh tan.
Yes, but you should definitely use a different technique on your face than your body. The skin on your face is much more sensitive and has a higher cell turnover rate. In fact, your self-tan will likely only last two to four days on your face. 'Generally, to correct a bad face self-tan all you need is to exfoliate well with an exfoliating wipe, mitt, or device to lift off the self-tan or use a good AHA product,' Evans explains. If you're looking to expedite the process, gentle facial scrubs, AHA's, and exfoliating tools should be your go to's to buff away a face tan. And of course, slather your face in moisturizer afterwards.

4 Steps To Maintaining A Bob Haircut, From Regular Trims To At-Home Care

Whether it's a statement-making blunt bob or a polished Italian bob, this short hairstyle is no doubt a defining look for 2025. But now that you've committed to a bob, maintaining it can feel tricky, especially if you've transitioned from having longer locks. 'The main concern is that a bob can look grown out quite quickly, so clients can end up wanting for an appointment more often,' says senior stylist Andreas Wild at Larry King, Notting Hill. He's a fan of a lived-in bob, but admits that those with fine hair can find that their bob looks heavier at the bottom without as it grows out. It's all down to preference, and hair grows at different rates for everyone but in general, Wild recommends a trim every 7 weeks. Having a good relationship with your hairstylist helps, too. 'I have clients who will send me a picture of their hair after a few weeks to ask me if they are ready to come in if they aren't sure themselves,' says Wild. Wild's best advice for keeping your bob in top form? 'Getting it cut regularly, working with your natural texture and asking your hairdresser for advice on how to maintain it best,' shares Wild, as it's not a one-size-fits-all approach. 'Make sure you have a proper consultation, ask your stylist to analyse your face shape, talk about your lifestyle and be honest here - to make sure your bob works for you.' As for trimming your bob at home? Just don't do it – it's not worth sacrificing a great cut! A hair oil that suits your hair type will help to hydrate the hair and keep it healthy. Wild is a fan of Larry King's Spoilt For Choice as it 'contains rosemary oil to encourage growth'. Team ELLE also rates Kérastase Glaze Drops for fine hair, Olaplex No7 Bonding Oil for processed and dyed locks and Bread Beauty Supply Hair Oil for curls. 'Investing in a great scalp scrub is a good idea, just like you exfoliate your face every so often, it's important to do that with your scalp too,' adds Wild. 'A great little trick if you don't want to wash your hair too much, straighten your hair instead and/or go over with some tongs,' says Wild. 'It can make your bob look brand new.' That said, shorter lengths doesn't mean you should scrimp on hair protection. If you're using heated tools, make sure to use a heat protector beforehand to avoid frying your ends and incorporate a nourishing mask weekly to keep your strands hydrated and glossy. This Low-Key, Affordable Sneaker Is About to Have Its Biggest Comeback Yet

Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. If you need any further proof that the '80s are back in a big way, look no further than the runways. Yuppies, power suits, and oversized accessories are all enjoying a renewed moment in the mainstream. Luxury fashion is once again experimenting with indulgence, and styling stood out as a huge factor across recent collections (especially as men's fashion week becomes an increasingly popular event). Amid the excess, one simple sneaker, which has ebbed and flowed in popularity over the past 100-plus years, is finding its way back into the limelight: Keds. The biggest hint as to the shoe's revival? The rise of the ultra-minimalist sneaker. The silhouette feels like a natural progression of the already trending ballet styles seen across brands like Puma and Louis Vuitton. Not to mention the Nike Air Rift, which is finally getting the funky footwear appreciation it deserves. Even high-fashion circles are not immune: Michael Rider's debut for Celine was filled with low-key leather footwear. Seeing his relaxed contemporary-dance-like shoes pad down the runway with beautifully crafted jackets and wide-legged tailored trousers felt simultaneously modern and nostalgic—an increasingly common aesthetic combination given designers' current penchant for re-editioned accessories and '80s styling. Gone are the days of circa-2018 chunky dad sneakers that were too heavy to pack in your suitcase for fear of an overweight luggage fee. With the simple sneaker renaissance, there's no doubt we're about to see Keds return to embody the sense of high-low dressing and ultimate sartorial ease that defined its 20th-century heyday. Birthed in 1916, the canvas and rubber shoe initially gained popularity as one of the first pairs of athletic sneakers; however, its stylish appeal quickly escalated as it graced the feet of stars including Marilyn Monroe in Clash by Night (1952) and Audrey Hepburn in Two for the Road (1967). Yoko Ono even wore Keds as a part of her bridal ensemble for her nuptials with John Lennon. Jennifer Grey famously sported them in Dirty Dancing, further catapulting the shoe into stardom and permanently associating the silhouette with that carefree '80s prep-meets-aerobics-workout look. Cut to the 21st century, and the sneaker experienced its first renaissance as the brand continued to tap into celebrity power, partnering with The O.C.'s Mischa Barton as the face of its mid-2000s campaigns. Some celebrities and former spokespeople, like Lana Del Rey, never stopped wearing them either. (Perhaps that's why her style has always remained so relatable to her fans.) Of course, Keds aren't the only 2000s It item to begin to trickle back into the mainstream. Following recent celebrity co-signs, including Charli XCX at Glastonbury and Timothée Chalamet in New York City, McQueen skull scarves are bringing nostalgia back in all the right ways. Not to mention that, also on the Celine runway, a new version of the Phantom bag made a reappearance. Although, in comparison to these other accessories, the shoe can point to nearly a century of style longevity—the ultimate proof that the fashion tides always come back around.

The Best Ways to Style a Layered Bob With Bangs for Summer

Bobs and bangs may be all the rage right now—from choppy bangs to the tousled, French-girl bob—but if you're looking for something that's versatile and relatively low-maintenance, it's time to consider the layered bob with bangs haircut. 'I love a layered bob with bangs,' says Kamila Pruszek, co-owner of Blue Tit Salon in London. 'They suit all face shapes and hair textures.' Bangs can be a little high-maintenance, but Pruszek has this excellent hack: 'You can just wash your bangs daily to keep them looking fresh, no need to wash your whole head. A quick refresh with your fingers or a light blow-dry is usually enough to keep them in shape,' she tells ELLE. As the name suggests, this is essentially a cut that sits above the shoulder, with layers chopped in and accompanying bangs. It can be tailored to your features and preferences; think sideswept or wispy bangs, or a longer lob, if you're not ready for the commitment. 'The bangs add a bold, stylish edge, and when paired with layers, they give the cut so much movement and shape,' says Valentina Ingrosso, senior creative director at Neil Moodie Studio in Spitalfields. 'We're seeing everything from sleek finishes to bouncy blowouts and lived-in natural textures—it's super versatile and totally on-trend.' Both Pruszek and Ingrosso agree that this short haircut with bangs is suitable for all. 'There are different ways to cut this hairstyle for it to suit the different textures of hair and face shapes,' says Ingrosso. She cautions that those with thin hair might experience flicked ends as the bob starts to grow out, so do bear that in mind and ask your hairdresser for styling tips that's tailored to your own hair. Echoes Pruszek: 'It's a great option for curly, wavy, or straight hair. The bangs can help frame the face and bring attention to your eyes, while the layers add volume and movement.'
