
OCCI's Ramadan Evenings conclude with focus on local content
Muscat – Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) concluded its Ramadan Evenings for 2025 on Wednesday under the patronage of Sheikh Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI.
The closing session, titled 'The Economic Importance of Local Content', highlighted the significance of strengthening local content as a pillar for building a sustainable and prosperous economy. Discussions focused on its role in boosting the national economy, supporting small and medium enterprises and introduction of the National Strategy for Local Content Development.
Speaking at the event, Rawas underscored the importance of integrating local goods and services into contracts and tenders. 'Enhancing local content strengthens the private sector, attracts investment and improves the overall business environment,' he said. 'By prioritising local products over imports, we can retain capital within the national economy.'
He added that supporting local content across key sectors such as industry, trade, logistics and tourism enhances economic resilience while creating more opportunities for private sector growth and innovation. Rawas further noted that Oman has made great strides in promoting local content through targeted policies and initiatives designed to encourage businesses to rely on domestic resources.

"Safe Investment Environment" meeting discusses developing business environment in Dhofar
Salalah: An introductory meeting titled "Safe Investment Environment" was held on Monday in the Wilayat of Salalah in Dhofar Governorate. Organised by the Public Prosecution and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), the event aimed to enhance the business environment through integrated institutional efforts and to establish principles of transparency and legal compliance. This is meant to contribute to creating a safe and attractive investment environment. The meeting was attended by a number of ministers and officials, members of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Board of Directors, investors, business owners, company representatives, and those interested in legal and economic affairs. Nasr Khamis Al Sawai, the Public Prosecutor, explained that the Public Prosecution seeks to expand its partnership with national institutions to spread legal awareness within the private sector and protect the business environment from any unlawful practices. This, he noted, strengthens justice and enhances economic stability. Faisal Abdullah Al Rowas, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Board of Directors, affirmed that the meeting is part of a strategic partnership with the Public Prosecution to enhance a legislative environment that stimulates investment in Oman and supports efforts to attract local and foreign capital. Naif Hamed Fadhil, Head of the Chamber's branch in Dhofar Governorate, pointed out that the meeting serves as a platform for institutional dialogue on ways to develop the investment environment in the governorate. He affirmed that Dhofar is rich with promising potential, making it an attractive destination for investors in various sectors. Assistant Public Prosecutor Khalfan Said Al Maawali presented a working paper that reviewed criminal liability under the Commercial Companies Law, the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Law, and the compliance mechanisms that companies must adhere to. The meeting included a dialogue session with the Public Prosecutor and the Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The session addressed key legislative challenges facing the private sector and discussed practical proposals for developing the legal environment and boosting Oman's investment appeal. This meeting is part of a series of initiatives aimed at embedding the principles of governance and transparency and strengthening institutional partnership. This aligns with the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040 to empower the private sector and support the national business environment.

Omani-Bahraini products expo to open in Salalah on Aug 10
SALALAH: The fifth edition of the Omani-Bahraini Products Exhibition will take place in the Wilayat of Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, from August 10, as part of efforts to strengthen economic ties between Oman and Bahrain. Organised by the Omani-Bahraini Friendship Association, the 10-day exhibition will be held under the auspices of Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI). Radina al Hajri, Chairwoman of the Omani-Bahraini Friendship Association, stated that the event is being organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Bahrain in Oman and OCCI's Dhofar Governorate branch. It is timed to coincide with the Dhofar Khareef Season 2025 — an annual attraction for local and regional tourism. Al Hajri noted that the exhibition aims to deepen the longstanding fraternal ties between the two nations while providing a platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to showcase and market their products. The exhibition will feature around 33 Omani and Bahraini entrepreneurs offering a variety of products, including perfumes, incense, frankincense, traditional clothing and abayas, handicrafts, honey, dates and Bahraini sweets.
