By OUR CORRESPONDENT Muscat – Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) concluded its Ramadan Evenings for 2025 on Wednesday under the patronage of Sheikh Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI. The closing session, titled 'The Economic Importance of Local Content', highlighted the significance of strengthening local content as a pillar for building a sustainable and prosperous economy. Discussions focused on its role in boosting the national economy, supporting small and medium enterprises and introduction of the National Strategy for Local Content Development. Speaking at the event, Rawas underscored the importance of integrating local goods and services into contracts and tenders. 'Enhancing local content strengthens the private sector, attracts investment and improves the overall business environment,' he said. 'By prioritising local products over imports, we can retain capital within the national economy.' He added that supporting local content across key sectors such as industry, trade, logistics and tourism enhances economic resilience while creating more opportunities for private sector growth and innovation. Rawas further noted that Oman has made great strides in promoting local content through targeted policies and initiatives designed to encourage businesses to rely on domestic resources.

Muscat: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) hosted its inaugural Ramadan Evening on Tuesday under the theme 'The Importance of Expo Japan 2025 for the Private Sector', highlighting the strategic role of Omani businesses in promoting the nation's heritage, innovation, and sustainable development on the global stage. Held under the patronage of H E Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, the event underscored how participation in global expos can create new avenues for economic cooperation and investment. Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI, stated that Oman's participation in Expo Japan 2025 will reflect its national identity, rich heritage, and ongoing journey towards sustainable growth. 'The exhibition provides an exceptional opportunity for Omani businesses to engage with major global economies, expand international partnerships, and explore the latest innovations across diverse sectors.' He added that participation in Expo Japan 2025 'is a golden opportunity for the private sector to showcase its capabilities and innovations'. This will strengthen their capacity for growth and competitiveness,' he added. PROGRAMME: Cairo, Alexandria, Damanhour Operas kick off Ramadan Evenings - Music - Arts & Culture

Cairo and Alexandria Opera Houses have launched their Ramadan Evenings programme on Sunday, which mostly includes performances relative to the holy Muslim month by the likes of Medhat Saleh, Wust El-Balad, and El Hadra Ensemble, with Damanhour Opera launching soon. The Ramadan Evenings feature an array of music genres, with troupes often taking centre stage and performing heritage and folksongs tied to the holy month. The Cairo Opera House hosts its programme across multiple venues, including its Open Air Theatre, Small Hall, and Main Hall. Concerts are also held under the Cairo Opera's umbrella, mainly at the Arabic Music Institute and the Goumhoria Theatre. The Alexandria and Damanhour Opera Houses also participate in the festivities. The open-air theatre kickstarted the activities on 9 March with El-Leila El-Kebira performance staged by the music and singing students of the Talents Development Centre, an educational body of the Cairo Opera. The day also saw the Religious Song Ensemble perform at the Arabic Music Institute. On Monday, Ramadan was celebrated with Sufi chanting by El-Hadra Ensemble. As the month progresses, the programme will continue to cater to various tastes, with highlights like El-Hadra's concert with Moroccan chanter Jawad El-Shary in Cairo (14 March) and Alexandria (17 March), religious chanter Yassin El-Touhami on 16 March, marimba player Nesma Abdel Aziz on 20 March, Wust El-Balad band on 21 March, among others.
