It opined that the new policy can instill the strength needed to face the challenges of the new generation.
KDA chairman Purushotham Bilimale wrote to chief minister Siddaramaiah and education ministers Saturday, saying, "If the govt implements the comprehensive SEP, which includes a detailed time-bound action plan to address many of the current issues in the education sector, it will undergo significant transformation in the next 10 years."
Bilimale added that the SEP report has thoroughly examined the issue of languages in schools and higher education and recommended a bilingual policy with Kannada and English for the state. He urged the govt to support language development by accepting the report.

"When the commission, chaired by Prof Sukhadeo Thorat, recommended a bilingual policy, it did not ignore languages other than Kannada and English," the KDA chairman said. According to the report, Kannada, as the state language, will mandatorily remain as the first or second language, and interested students will have the opportunity to learn a language of their choice as a third language.

Rajanna's conspiracy claim pits CM supporters against DKS' camp
Bengaluru: Tumakuru strongman KN Rajanna's accusation that he was sacked as cooperation minister from chief minister Siddaramaiah 's cabinet because of a conspiracy and his vow to regain his ministerial post has deepened the factional divide in governing Congress. While Siddaramaiah's camp is trying to get Rajanna reinstated, supporters of Shivakumar are against the move. Despite Siddaramaiah's reported attempts to shield him from disciplinary action, Rajanna was sacked after he publicly lambasted Lok Sabha opposition leader and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi's claims of 'vote theft'. Shivakumar's camp now sees any move to reinstate Rajanna a challenge to party discipline and the deputy CM's influence. The rift is widely seen as part of a larger, ongoing struggle between the two top Congress functionaries for the CM post. Public works minister Satish Jarkiholi, a prominent Valmiki representative, even met Rajanna to express his backing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "I told Rajanna we are all with him," Jarkiholi said. "In the spirit of friendship, I tried to instil courage in him. He told us what he has already said in public — that there was a conspiracy in Delhi against him and he would meet the high command and convince them." Tensions between Rajanna and Randeep Singh Surjewala, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, have also simmered. Rajanna had earlier slammed Surjewala for holding meetings with MLAs and ministers to address growing dissent within govt ranks. During those meetings, concerns were raised about governance and allegations of corruption. Rajanna had said Surjewala had "crossed his limits". Rajanna has now pointed to both Surjewala and Shivakumar as possible actors behind his removal. "The CM did not know about this conspiracy till he received a call from the high command on Monday morning," Rajanna said. "I know who conspired against me. I will meet the high command and convince them. You can expect good news thereafter." The row has reignited concerns within the ST communities, as Rajanna is the second Valmiki member to be dropped from the cabinet after B Nagendra, who was removed last year following alleged irregularities at Maharshi Valmiki ST Development Corporation. Ahinda representatives are now leveraging the situation to demand fair representation in the cabinet and are pushing for both ST vacancies to be filled with members from the community. This demand has become a major sticking point in the party's delayed cabinet reshuffle. "Before Rajanna visits Delhi, I will call Surjewala and other central party brass and tell them that the Valmiki community expects the two vacant ministerial posts to be allocated to the community," said Jarkiholi, often seen as a critic of Shivakumar. The Valmiki community had rallied behind Congress in the 2023 assembly polls, with the party winning 14 of the 15 seats reserved for STs. Community leaders say the removal of two of their representatives has caused deep dissatisfaction among supporters. However, Shivakumar's loyalists insist that reinstating Rajanna would undermine party discipline and send the wrong message. "Rajanna is talking about a conspiracy but wasn't he the one who criticised Rahul Gandhi's initiative against vote theft?" asked HD Ranganath, Kunigal MLA. "Didn't BJP benefit politically from it? How can one expect the high command to overlook gross indiscipline and anti-party activity and reward him?" Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Sanskrit to be introduced inpre-primary classes in state
Jaipur: In a major initiative, Rajasthan is preparing to introduce Sanskrit as a subject in pre-primary classes across state govt schools. This is being spearheaded by both the Sanskrit and the education departments and aims to teach children aged 3 to 5 the ancient language, said to be the first such programme in the country. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Sanskrit education department has already developed a set of books tailored for young learners, confirmed govt officials. These are designed to be used in both Sanskrit and Hindi/English medium govt schools, highlighting the inclusive approach of the initiative. Currently, the state boasts of 2,369 Sanskrit schools, comprising 1,867 govt-run institutions and 502 private ones. The educational material includes illustrations depicting food items, numbers, animals, birds and modes of transport, each accompanied by their corresponding Sanskrit words. To enhance the learning experience, the teaching material features interactive activities that encourage children to match words with pictures, fostering better recollection of the vocabulary. Aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP), each book concludes with a comprehensive list of all the words taught, presented in Sanskrit, Hindi and English, along with a column for children to write down the equivalent word in their mother tongue. Priyanka Jodhawat, commissioner of Sanskrit education, emphasised the importance of this initiative, "Simple Sanskrit words have been provided in the books so that children can use them in conversation and familiarise themselves with the language from a young age." The books also introduce concepts such as numbers through colorful balls, along with lessons on the days of the week, body parts and moral stories, all illustrated for better engagement. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While the decision on implementing the timeline is still pending at the state govt level, the initiative has already garnered attention. YS Ramesh, director of Central Sanskrit University, Jaipur, and head of the curriculum development committee for these books, said, "Rajasthan is the first state to implement the pattern of the NEP in Sanskrit education by preparing books in Sanskrit for pre-primary classes. " As the state prepares to implement the new language policy, many are hopeful that it will not only promote Sanskrit learning but will also instill a sense of cultural heritage among younger generations.

Sending stray dogs to shelter homes is inhuman: Animal lovers stage protest
1 2 Lucknow: Stray animals have an equal right to live, and dogs have coexisted with humans for centuries, sending them to shelter homes is inhumane, said animal rights activists and animal lovers during a protest staged at Eco Garden on Sunday afternoon. The demonstration had brought together animal lovers, feeders, NGOs, doctors, engineers, lawyers, veterinarians, government servants, politicians and citizens from across the city. Reports of force being used against peaceful protesters and dogs being caught in Delhi without due process had added to the unrest. The issue was significant enough for the Chief Justice of India to take note and refer the matter to a larger bench on August 14. The final order of the apex court is awaited. Participants said dogs had long been part of the social and religious fabric. Legal experts pointed out that the order overlooked existing provisions under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023. "The dogs are a part of the ecosystem and society, eliminating or pounding them is not the solution. To address the problem scientific treatment including vaccination, sterilization, proper fooding and lodging should be provided. There should be an awareness campaign for making people aware of the protection and adoption of stray dogs," said Pooja Singh, an animal activist. "Dogs often chase vehicles after trauma, and most child bite cases involve provocation. Even those who dislike dogs do not want them to suffer. The difference is only in approach. There should be an awareness drive for the behaviour of these animals," said Neha Zaidi, founder, Fairy Tales (Masoom foundation). Concerns raised included disputed dog-bite statistics, with experts claiming parliamentary data and newspaper reports were in conflict. The protesters demanded strict enforcement of sterilization and vaccination under ABC Rules, an end to forced relocation, responsible media reporting, public awareness drives on dog handling and vaccinations, and promotion of Indie adoptions.
