Lady Gaga Performs to Record-Breaking Crowd at Rio's Copacabana Beach
Lady Gaga performed to a record-breaking crowd Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, as an estimated 2.5 million people attended the singer's free concert on Copacabana Beach. The gig in Brazil marked the highest attended concert by a female artist in history, according to the singer's reps, eclipsing the 1.6 million people Madonna drew to the same venue last year. More from Rolling Stone Brazil Police Reveal Thwarted Bomb Attack Targeting Lady Gaga's Rio Concert Katy Perry Attends Lady Gaga Concert in Mexico City: 'So Proud of You' Lady Gaga Adds Seven Shows to Mayhem Ball Tour 'Tonight, we're making history … Thank you for making history with me,' Lady Gaga told the crowd, which included over a million Brazilians as well as a reported 500,000 Little Monsters who flew in for the special show, which injected over $100 million into Rio's economy, NPR reported. The record holder for largest concert crowd in history — according to Guinness World Records — remains Rod Stewart, who attracted a crowd of over 4 million to Copacabana Beach on New Year's Eve in 1994. The Copacabana Beach concert marked Lady Gaga's first concert in Brazil since 2012. 'I've missed you so much,' she told an enormous crowd that gathered the previous night just to watch her soundcheck. 'I know that this is not the first show here. I know this is just a rehearsal; it feels like it's the real show.' The concert itself found Gaga replicating the five-act 'gothic opera' that she performed during her headlining sets at Coachella and other Mayhem Ball stops thus far. She'll next travel to Singapore for four shows in that country later this month before the North American arena leg of the Mayhem Ball tour begins in July. Rio de Janeiro's tourism department previously announced plans to continue staging free Copacabana Beach concerts until at least 2028. Water from Your Eyes Announce New Album It's a Beautiful Place, Reveal 2025 Tour Dates
The post Water from Your Eyes Announce New Album It's a Beautiful Place, Reveal 2025 Tour Dates appeared first on Consequence. Water from Your Eyes are back to announce a new album, It's a Beautiful Place, out on August 22nd via Matador. They've also confirmed a major 2025 North American tour set for this fall, and revealed the first single off It's a Beautiful Place: 'Life Signs.' The former CoSigns, comprised of songwriters Rachel Brown and Nate Amos, were inspired by turn-of-the-millennial sonics, outer space, existentialism, and writing for their newly-fitted live band on It's a Beautiful Place. 'It ended up being about time, dinosaurs and space,' Amos said of the new album in a press release. 'We wanted to present a wide range of styles in a way that acknowledges everything's just a tiny blip.' Get Water from Your Eyes Tickets Here They'll be supporting It's a Beautiful Place with a sprawling North American tour this fall, which kicks off in Philadelphia on September 22nd. They'll make their way through cities like Washington D.C., Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, Montreal, New York, Austin, Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver, and many more; they'll conclude the run on November 7th in Denver before heading off to Europe. Her New Knife, Winter, and Dutch Interior will provide support throughout the trek. See their full list of tour dates below. Tickets for Water From Your Eyes' 2025 tour will first be available via an artist pre-sale beginning on Wednesday, June 4th at 12:00 p.m. local time; fans can sign up for pre-sale access to their desired show date(s) on Water From Your Eyes' official website. A Live Nation pre-sale is also available for select dates beginning on Wednesday, June 4th at 12:00 p.m. local time (use code TREBLE). Tickets go on-sale for the general public on Friday, June 6th at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster as well as the band's official website. 'Life Signs' serves as the lead single for It's a Beautiful Place and it's a moody, guitar-forward introduction to the album's expansive sound. Cycling between slightly threatening and resigned, Amos brings palm-muted arpeggios and grungy blasts of guitar while Brown narrates deadpanned, surrealist verses. The song also arrives with a music video inspired by several eras of television, and feature Amos and Brown in a variety of vintage sets and situations. Check out 'Life Signs' below. Since releasing their lauded 2023 album Everyone's Crushed, Brown and Amos have been busy; they toured frequently, embarking on a large slate of dates opening for their labelmates Interpol (including their performance in Mexico City, which drew 160,000 attendees) and a co-headlining run with Squid. They also resurfaced for a covers EP in 2024. Meanwhile, they both released solo albums: Brown shared an EP under the moniker thanks for coming, while Amos released an acclaimed debut album Box For Buddy, Box For Star last year as This Is Lorelei. Revisit our CoSign interview with the band from 2023, where Brown and Amos discuss the project's ethos, Everyone's Crushed, and more. Artwork: Tracklist: 01. One Small Step 02. Life Signs 03. a-ha's Morten Harket Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease
The post a-ha's Morten Harket Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease appeared first on Consequence. Morten Harket, frontman of Norwegian synth-pop legends a-ha, has revealed that he's been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Harket, 65, disclosed his illness in an interview with a-ha's biographer Jan Omdahl that was published to the band's website on Wednesday. As Omdahl reports, Harket underwent advanced brain surgery in 2024, during which electrodes were implanted deep within his brain. These are connected to a pacemaker-like device placed under the skin of his upper chest, which sends electrical impulses to help regulate brain activity. Combined with medication, the device has helped reduce the symptoms associated with Parkinson's disease. However, even with such treatment, the condition still reguarly impacts Harket's sleep and energy levels, as well as his voice. 'I don't feel like singing, and for me that's a sign,' Harket told Omdahl. 'I'm broadminded in terms of what I think works; I don't expect to be able to achieve full technical control. The question is whether I can express myself with my voice. As things stand now, that's out of the question. But I don't know whether I'll be able to manage it at some point in the future.' 'When we tune the frequencies and direction of the electrodes, it is also able to affect the region of the voice, but we're not yet able to capture and control it,' he added. 'The voice problem comes especially when I take dopamine supplements. If I don't take dopamine, my voice settles down – but then the general underlying symptoms become more pronounced.' Despite his diagnosis, Harket is keeping a positive attitude. 'I've got no problem accepting the diagnosis,' he told Omdahl. 'With time I've taken to heart my 94-year-old father's attitude to the way the organism gradually surrenders: 'I use whatever works.'' And he's also not ruling out music completely. 'For a few years now I've been working on songs that I've got great belief in, and I feel the lyrics, especially, have something of a different aspect of me in them. I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish them for release. Time will tell if they make it. I really like the idea of just going for it, as a Parkinson's patient and an artist, with something completely outside the box. It's all up to me, I just have to get this out of the way first.'
