LAS VEGAS – Iasmin Lucindo has no interest in matchmaking. She just wants to get better.
Lucindo (18-6 MMA, 5-2 UFC) picked up a dominant, unanimous decision win over former Invicta FC champion Angela Hill (18-15 MMA, 13-15 UFC) on the UFC on ESPN 72 main card Saturday at the UFC Apex. Many would see a main card spot and a win over a notable veteran as the perfect opportunity to make a callout for a high-profile name, but not Lucindo.
"As soon as I get back home, I'm going to get back working because this is the main thing I have to work on, is just to keep improving, and I know I have the time," Lucindo said at the UFC on ESPN 72 post-fight press conference. "Every fight that you see me, you're going to see a more improved version of myself. And about opponent? I don't have any preference. As long as I'm moving forward, I'm happy. I'll fight whoever the UFC wants, and whoever they want, I'm just going to take my time and keep improving."
At 23, Lucindo is one of the youngest fighters on the UFC roster. She's 5-1 in her past six UFC outings, with the only loss coming to former title challenger Amanda Lemos. The addition of Hill to her resume was a solid one for an already impressive run in the UFC.
"(She was) probably one of the most experienced opponents I've ever had," Lucindo said. "I did fight some experienced people here in the UFC, but I think Angela might be the most experienced one. Overall, I'm just really happy that I was able to show my work. I showed I have great striking, great grappling, and that I was able to get the takedowns whenever I wanted. I think it's a lot about that – just being able to put my work out there and show the organization what I'm capable of. This is of course all part of the work of my team and my support system, so I'm thankful for them."

DWCS 77 video: Baysangur Susurkaev 'saves' Dana White's Tuesday with gnarly TKO

"You saved my Tuesday." That's what Dana White told Baysangur Susurkaev after a devastating body kick knockout Tuesday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Susurkaev (9-0) teeped Murtaza Talha (7-2) in the midsection for the TKO stoppage at 3:04 of Round 1. The middleweight bout took place at Dana White's Contender Series 77, the show's season premiere. Susurkaev, 24, is a training partner of Khamzat Chimaev but he also trains at Kill Cliff FC with the likes of training partner Gregory Rodrigues and others. He stepped in on days' notice for this fight and capitalized on it violently. The finish couldn't come at a time where the UFC brass thirsted that violence more. The previous two fights to kick off the season were lackluster decisions. Susurkaev will likely earn a UFC contract as a result of his performance. Daniel Cormier isn't opposed to banning slams in MMA after brutal UFC on ESPN 72 knockout

UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier believes slams have too much of a negative impact in MMA. Elijah Smith (9-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) scored a scary slam knockout of Toshiomi Kazama on Saturday's UFC on ESPN 72 prelims at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Kazama (11-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) was rendered unconscious after Smith drove him through the mat and needed medical attention before taking a while to stand up. In the wake of the violent finish, Cormier explained why he'd be OK with slams being banned. "There are very few rules that you have to follow, right? One is you can't hit him behind the head," Cormier said on "Good Guy/Bad Guy" with Chael Sonnen. "You hit him behind the head, that's the biggest no-no. But if you slam him, what hits first, Chael? The back of the head. So there's a reason we don't get to punch behind the back of the head. So if I'm being honest, like, I don't know that I would be opposed to that being done away with, especially in that fashion. "It was like the Undertaker, Kevin Nash, Big Daddy Cool, Diesel, The Razor's Edge. It was every finishing move you've ever seen (in pro wrestling) all in one. So, while slamming the person right down on their head is legal, I would probably say I would not be too mad if they did away with that. Just the impact on the back of the head is crazy. In most cases, that becomes the story of the night." Thankfully, all of Kazama's CT scans came back negative, and the Japanese fighter posted a positive update on social media the day after the fight.
