Bruno Fernandes posts cryptic message as Man Utd transfer exit deadline set
Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal want to sign Bruno Fernandes ahead of the Club World Cup and Manchester United are concerned their captain could now be heading for the exit door
Bruno Fernandes appears to have dropped a hint over his Manchester United future after posting a cryptic message on his Instagram story. The Portuguese attacking midfielder is understood to have been set a deadline by Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, who are willing to pay huge cash to bring him to the Middle East ahead of the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
There have been strong suggestions that Fernandes has effectively been given a week to decide his future after Al Hilal tabled an eye-watering proposal worth a reported £200million over three years.
Al Hilal would also be prepared a significant fee to prise Fernandes away from Old Trafford even though Ruben Amorim wants to keep him at the club.
Fernandes posted a Portuguese quote on his social media account which translates to: 'If you tried and failed, congratulations! There are people who don't even try.'
The 31-year-old's agent Miguel Pinho has been in Riyadh for talks this week with Al Hilal executives and there is optimism that a deal could now be struck.
Fernandes has been away on United's post-season tour of the Far East this week and he featured in their 3-1 friendly victory over Hong Kong on Friday.
Speaking after the game, Red Devils boss Amorim made it clear that he didn't think his captain has now played his final game for the club.
Amorim said: 'I don't think so. I don't know for sure, nobody knows, but I don't think so. I think he's seeing us taking some actions to change things and that's all he asks. I think he wants to stay. He is saying no to a lot of things, but that shows he wants to win. He's really young, he's really good, he needs to be in the best league in the world.'
Al Hilal are understood to have told Fernandes that despite the fact they've courted the player for the past few years, this is a one-time offer.
The Portugal international wants to win trophies but United are expected to be operating with limited finances this summer after losing the Europa League final to Spurs and missing out on Champions League football.
United sources have repeatedly insisted that Fernandes is not for sale but if he pushes to quit Old Trafford, they will reluctantly accept the cash which will go towards funding their rebuild.

Ange Postecoglou delivers defiant message from family holiday amid reports his job at Tottenham is at risk despite Europa League win
Ange Postecoglou has broken his silence while on holiday in Greece, delivering a powerful message about ambition and resilience as speculation continues to swirl over his future at Tottenham Hotspur. The Australian manager led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years by winning the UEFA Europa League final last month, defeating Manchester United in Bilbao and sparking scenes of jubilation across half of north London. Yet despite ending the club's long wait for silverware, Postecoglou's job remains under threat — with reports claiming Tottenham have already held talks with possible successors. Speaking to ABC's Australian Story while spending time with his family, Postecoglou insisted that lifting the Europa League must be just the beginning for Spurs — not the peak. 'I didn't want us to just enjoy the moment,' he said. 'I also wanted us to think about what's next, you know — don't settle for this. We've got a taste of it now. My players have got a taste for it. The club's got a taste for it. Well, let's make sure we're back here again.' Postecoglou has two years left on his contract but admitted before departing for his post-season break that he was unsure whether he would still be in charge for the 2025–26 campaign. Despite his European triumph, Postecoglou oversaw Tottenham's lowest finish in the top flight since 1977 as his side ended up 17th in the Premier League, just one place above the relegation zone. According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham have already made direct contact with Brentford manager Thomas Frank. Frank is said to have discussed his vision for Spurs in early talks and even shared some suggested transfer targets. While Frank is believed to be high on the shortlist, Levy is also understood to be considering multiple other candidates. Frank has been in charge of Brentford since October 2018. He won promotion via the EFL Championship play-offs in 2021 and has since established the west London club in England's top division, delivering finishes of 13th, ninth, 16th and most recently 10th. His Premier League win percentage stands at 35.53% — slightly lower than Postecoglou's 40.79% — but achieved with a vastly smaller budget. Postecoglou, however, remains confident in the path he has set out for Spurs and in the trajectory of his own career. 'When we sat down 10 years ago and did the initial Australian Story, I think maybe even you guys thought that that was the culmination of what I was about to achieve,' he reflected. 'In 10 years' time, if we sit down again, I've got no doubt in my mind that there'll be more stories to tell.' Tottenham's Europa League triumph saw Postecoglou make good on his promise of 'always' winning silverware during his second year in a job. At the subsequent trophy parade last month, the 59-year-old addressed thousands of supporters to deliver another killer quote. 'In all the best television series, season three is better than season two,' he told the crowd, hinting at his hopes of continuing the project he began in 2023.

Ferdinand says it 'hurts' that Man Utd were beaten to £29.5m signing by rivals
Rio Ferdinand says it 'hurt' to see Manchester United miss out on the signing of Jeremie Frimpong as the right-back would have been a 'perfect' fit for Ruben Amorim's system. The Red Devils had been keeping close tabs on Frimpong's progress for well over a year, with the 24-year-old wing-back earning himself plenty of admirers across Bayer Leverkusen's historic 2023/24 season under Xabi Alonso. Frimpong followed this up with another eye-catching campaign at Leverkusen this term – and United were believed to be among the frontrunners to capture the Netherlands international this summer. But Liverpool overtook United in the race for Frimpong after begrudgingly accepting Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure for Real Madrid and the Dutchman's arrival on Merseyside was confirmed Friday. Frimpong put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Anfield and joins the newly crowned Premier League champions for a fee of £29.5million. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer,' Frimpong told the Reds' official website. 'For me, it was like, 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done,' [speaking to] my agents: 'Just get this done!' 'Liverpool fans, I'm going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together. 'I'm just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me. 'I won't let you guys down and I'll give you the energy that you guys want.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Liverpool's interest in Frimpong reportedly stretches back over a decade, with the Merseyside giants initially attempting to him up on an academy contract in 2010. But United legend Ferdinand says the move still 'hurts' as he is confident the former Celtic and Leverkusen star would have been ideally suited to the way Amorim sets up his teams. 'Frimpong is going to Liverpool which will hurt me a little bit, I've got to be honest,' the ex-United and England defender said on Rio Ferdinand Presents. 'I think he would fit the way that Ruben Amorim wants to play perfectly.' Ferdinand is, though, delighted to see United wrap up their first piece of summer transfer business by signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves – subject to visa approval and registration procedures. 'I have to say, I'm really excited about Cunha signing,' Ferdinand explained. 'I'm happy we signed him, I'm happy with how aggressive we've been immediately, acting on it instantly.' After luring Cunha to the Theatre of Dreams, Ferdinand hopes to see his former club bring in a striker, a central midfielder and a right-back. More Trending He added: 'I think this is a great start to the transfer window. If I was advising the recruitment team on anything now, I would be saying: 'Please make sure you do not forget an experienced No.9',' Ferdinand said. 'I'm not going to say names, I've said the names too many times, and I would go and get a midfielder as well. 'A midfielder that can dictate the player and pass and be the orchestrator, but he also needs to have some legs about him as well. That's what Ruben Amorim's teams are about, they do that. 'Those two players would be the next ones, a centre-forward and a central midfielder, also a right-back.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Liverpool fans fear £37m star is leaving after girlfriend's social media post
There are growing fears that Luis Diaz may have played his final game for Liverpool after the forward's girlfriend penned an emotional letter to fans on social media. Diaz, 28, racked up 13 goals and five assists across an excellent individual season in the Premier League to help Liverpool clinch their record-equaling 20th top-flight title in Arne Slot's first year at the helm. It adds to the FA Cup and two Carabao Cup titles that Diaz had already won across his opening two-and-a-half years under Jurgen Klopp. Slot has been unequivocal that he views Diaz as a central figure going forward, but speculation has been mounting that the Colombia international could be set for the exit door this summer. Barcelona are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements to further strengthen their La Liga-winning squad and have reportedly placed Diaz at the top of their wishlist, alongside Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford. Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr are also believed to be exploring a possible bid for the ex-Porto star. With that in mind, it is little wonder that many fans began fearing the worst when Diaz's partner, Gera Ponce, took to Instagram to thank the Anfield faithful for 'the unconditional love' they had received throughout their time on Merseyside. 'To the incredible Liverpool fans,' Ponce said in a touching post some have read as a farewell message. 'From the first day we arrived, we felt first hand what it means to be a part of this club. 'We knew the slogan was 'You'll Never Walk Alone', but to hear them sing it with so much passion, support each other at every moment and show such unconditional love… confirmed to us that here you never walk alone. 'This fan doesn't just support, it feels. And what you have made my boyfriend and our entire family feel is something we carry in our souls.' Ponce added: 'Thank you for so much love, for so much dedication and for making us feel at home. 'Being a part of this fan is a privilege. There's no doubt: they're the best in the world. 'This is a real bond, deep and strong, that reaffirms that we'll never walk alone.' In response to the post, @theliverpoolzone_ wrote: 'I hope this isn't a farewell post [crying emoji].' 'Is this a goodbye? [crying emoji],' one Liverpool fan replied. 'I hope this isn't a goodbye post? I hope you're here to stay for a long time! [love heart emoji],' another supporter responded. 'Don't go!' @anythinglfc_ wrote, while another fan replied: 'Don't let him go, if he wants to make history, Liverpool is the team.' 'We like Luis and we like Rashford,' Deco told Catalan radio station RAC1. 'However, we can't talk about players who are under contract. 'For me, it's much more important to improve what we have at home.' Diaz, meanwhile, insisted he was 'really happy' to be a Liverpool player as he spoke to the club's official website in the wake of their Premier League title triumph. 'I feel I'm going through a really good period,' Diaz said. 'I'm really happy to be here, to be part of this great institution, this great club and to have great team-mates around me. 'From the moment I arrived, I felt great pride. I always tried to work hard for this, and to see that nowadays things are working out for me fills me with pride and I'm really happy because that's what I work for. More Trending 'But we are nobodies without our team-mates. We are a team. 'The forwards and wingers always try to help with goals and assists, and right now I've achieved good numbers to back that up. 'It's about playing and then playing well, supporting the team in the way I play and enjoying it, like always.' Diaz's current contract with the English champions runs through to June 2027.
