Liverpool fans fear £37m star is leaving after girlfriend's social media post

Metro2 days ago

There are growing fears that Luis Diaz may have played his final game for Liverpool after the forward's girlfriend penned an emotional letter to fans on social media.
Diaz, 28, racked up 13 goals and five assists across an excellent individual season in the Premier League to help Liverpool clinch their record-equaling 20th top-flight title in Arne Slot's first year at the helm.
It adds to the FA Cup and two Carabao Cup titles that Diaz had already won across his opening two-and-a-half years under Jurgen Klopp.
Slot has been unequivocal that he views Diaz as a central figure going forward, but speculation has been mounting that the Colombia international could be set for the exit door this summer.
Barcelona are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements to further strengthen their La Liga-winning squad and have reportedly placed Diaz at the top of their wishlist, alongside Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford.

Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr are also believed to be exploring a possible bid for the ex-Porto star.
With that in mind, it is little wonder that many fans began fearing the worst when Diaz's partner, Gera Ponce, took to Instagram to thank the Anfield faithful for 'the unconditional love' they had received throughout their time on Merseyside.
'To the incredible Liverpool fans,' Ponce said in a touching post some have read as a farewell message.
'From the first day we arrived, we felt first hand what it means to be a part of this club.
'We knew the slogan was 'You'll Never Walk Alone', but to hear them sing it with so much passion, support each other at every moment and show such unconditional love… confirmed to us that here you never walk alone.
'This fan doesn't just support, it feels. And what you have made my boyfriend and our entire family feel is something we carry in our souls.' https://www.instagram.com/p/DKXkjnNxoXV/?hl=en&img_index=1
Ponce added: 'Thank you for so much love, for so much dedication and for making us feel at home.
'Being a part of this fan is a privilege. There's no doubt: they're the best in the world.
'This is a real bond, deep and strong, that reaffirms that we'll never walk alone.'
In response to the post, @theliverpoolzone_ wrote: 'I hope this isn't a farewell post [crying emoji].'
'Is this a goodbye? [crying emoji],' one Liverpool fan replied.
'I hope this isn't a goodbye post? I hope you're here to stay for a long time! [love heart emoji],' another supporter responded.
'Don't go!' @anythinglfc_ wrote, while another fan replied: 'Don't let him go, if he wants to make history, Liverpool is the team.'

Barca's interest in Diaz stretches back over a year and the club's sporting director, Deco, has refused to rule out a summer move, revealing his admiration for the Colombian last week.
'We like Luis and we like Rashford,' Deco told Catalan radio station RAC1.
'However, we can't talk about players who are under contract.
'For me, it's much more important to improve what we have at home.'
Diaz, meanwhile, insisted he was 'really happy' to be a Liverpool player as he spoke to the club's official website in the wake of their Premier League title triumph.
'I feel I'm going through a really good period,' Diaz said.
'I'm really happy to be here, to be part of this great institution, this great club and to have great team-mates around me.
'From the moment I arrived, I felt great pride. I always tried to work hard for this, and to see that nowadays things are working out for me fills me with pride and I'm really happy because that's what I work for. More Trending
'But we are nobodies without our team-mates. We are a team.
'The forwards and wingers always try to help with goals and assists, and right now I've achieved good numbers to back that up.
'It's about playing and then playing well, supporting the team in the way I play and enjoying it, like always.'
Diaz's current contract with the English champions runs through to June 2027.

Cesc Fabregas speaks as ex-Celtic man Valle completes Serie A move

The Spaniard joined the Parkhead side at the beginning of last season. Valle spent the first half of the 2024/25 campaign in Glasgow, helping Brendan Rodgers' men to win the Premier Sports Cup. Read more: He soon swapped Scotland for Italy, though, with his Celtic loan promptly ending and Barcelona sending him out to Serie A outfit Como. Federico Chiesa gives coy response regarding Liverpool future after making just one start in the Reds Premier League title-winning season

Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa admits a return to Italy is 'something to think about' this summer. The 27-year-old finished a frustrating maiden campaign in England, in which he featured just 14 times after arriving late in August in a £10million deal, as a Premier League winner and is currently targeting a return to pre-season training on July 8. But asked about a return to his homeland, the Italy international told La Gazzetta dello Sport: 'That's something to think about during the summer. 'My family, my agent and I have a great relationship with Liverpool, and the goal is to be ready for the pre-season. 'We'll find the best solution for everyone. I work every day with a Liverpool programme to be in top shape for the tests on July 8. 'While out of the squad (at Juventus), I was able to train in great condition, but I missed playing friendlies. I had to start from scratch at Liverpool and that held me back. 'I hope (next season) it's my season. My dream is to participate in the World Cup.' When Chiesa arrived on Merseyside, he was unfit after being frozen out by Thiago Motta at the Turin club and not having a pre-season, and lacked match sharpness. The winger was then constantly playing catch-up in the early months of the season and as a result, could not get in the team ahead of others. He only managed a meagre 104 minutes of football in the Premier League, making just one start, which came against Brighton in the penultimate match of the campaign with the title wrapped up. However, despite not utilising Chiesa's skills throughout the season, Liverpool boss Arne Slot that he has a future at Anfield just last month. 'Does he have a future here? Yes, definitely he has, yes,' said Slot. 'Definitely. I think everyone playing for us over here has a future over here. 'Next season, if he comes back completely fit, which he has hardly been for the first half-season but then afterward he became fitter and fitter. The next step should have been playing time, which I couldn't give him. 'But I can give him playing time in pre-season, so he can build himself up and then go even further.' Chiesa is natural a winger who plays on the right, but with Mo Salah a staple in that position, opportunities were hard to come by as the Egyptian led Liverpool to a 20th title. Slot also said: 'In terms of the quality he has, he deserves more playing time but unfortunately for him he's in competition with Mo Salah. On the left, it's competition with Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz. Three players who have had a great season. 'He was not as fit as the others for a long time. That doesn't help in the beginning. Then the others did so well there's no reason to change. 'Is he good enough to play for us? Yes he is. But I've always felt Lucho, Cody and Mo deserved the confidence I had in them.' Chiesa has been linked with the likes of Napoli and Atletico Madrid, but there is yet to be any serious speculation of a departure. He has admitted that he would 'never say never' to a return to Turin, but there are no signs that is an option at the time of writing.
