Football League: Birmingham extend lead at top as Wrexham left chasing
Jay Stansfield's late penalty was the difference as Birmingham extended their lead at the top of League One to 11 points with a 2-1 win against Bristol Rovers.
Keshi Anderson gave Blues the lead after only three minutes and, although Gatlin O'Donkor equalised, Stansfield's spot-kick made it back-to-back league wins.
The second-placed Wrexham were held to a 2-2 by struggling Cambridge. Liam Bennett cancelled out George Dobson's opener and Josh Stokes gave United the lead from the penalty spot before Sam Smith snatched a point for Wrexham.
Wycombe in third were also left frustrated following a goalless draw with bottom side Shrewsbury, meaning they sit only three points above Charlton after Tyreece Campbell scored the winner for the Addicks to beat Mansfield 2-1.
Stockport are a point further back in fifth after beating Stevenage 3-0 with efforts from Jayden Fevrier and Jack Diamond and a Luther James-Wildin own goal.
Leyton Orient were dealt a 2-1 defeat by struggling Burton as Rumarn Burrell scored the winner.
Chris Forino's stoppage-time effort snatched a 1-0 for Bolton against Wigan, while Abraham Odoh scored a hat-trick as Peterborough secured a last-gasp 4-3 win against Crawley.
The relegation-threatened Crawley went ahead through Junior Quitirna before Odoh struck twice in seven minutes to give Posh the lead. The winger scored his third after Jeremy Kelly struck for Crawley and, although Rushian Hepburn-Murphy equalised to make it 3-3, a stoppage-time penalty from Ricky-Jade Jones snatched three points for Peterborough.
Sonny Carey's brace helped maintain Blackpool's playoff push with a 3-0 win against rivals Reading, while Reeco Hackett's goal was the difference for Lincoln to beat Huddersfield 1-0.
Rotherham had a good start after Steve Evans's sacking with a 2-0 victory against Northampton and a late Josh Magennis strike earned Exeter a 2-1 win against Barnsley.
In League Two the leaders, Walsall, picked up their fourth successive draw after salvaging a point at Doncaster. Taylor Allen cancelled out Luke Molyneux's opener, but in a late drama Billy Sharp put Rovers ahead before a Danny Johnson header snatched a 2-2 draw.
Bradford, in second, missed the chance to go top as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against their promotion rivals Port Vale, with Lorent Tolaj and Mitchell Clark on target. The win moved Vale level on points with their opponents.

Hamilton Accies seek site in town for youth academy as deal for temporary base close to being secured
The League One club are set to keep academy operations in Hamilton, while the first team prepares to move to Cumbernauld Hamilton Accies are seeking a site in the town for their elite youth academy. The club has confirmed their lease at Broadwood for next season only applies to first team operations and the club's under-19 side, leaving the renowned academy without a home as things stand, following the club's decision to quit New Douglas Park last month. The news comes shortly after one of the club's greatest success stories, Lewis Ferguson, captained Bologna to the Coppa Italia for the first time in 51 years. With the first team's move out of the town pushing forward, Lanarkshire Live Sport understands work is underway to keep the academy in Hamilton long-term. In the meantime, a temporary venue in the town is close to being secured for an initial two-year spell to retain a status within Hamilton, with all academy staff and operations based there. A club source said: "The lease at Broadwood is for the first team and under-19s. The intention was never to move the football club to Broadwood, the intention is to keep the overall football operation somewhere in Hamilton, just not at New Douglas Park. "All of the first team operations, coaching staff, analysis, physios and sports scientists are all going to Broadwood on a full-time basis. "The academy will be remaining in Hamilton. We are in the process of finding a suitable location that we can turn into an elite academy and first-team training base, similar to what St Mirren has at Ralston. "We are looking at working with the council to try and achieve something like that for the academy. "That is in line with the long-term vision anyway. If we had bought New Douglas Park, we would be making it a grass pitch to comply with the SPFL. "You can't have an academy training on a grass pitch seven days a week, so that has always been part of the plan." Hamilton's move out of New Douglas Park will come at the cost of some jobs and asked about potential job losses, the source added: "There are obvious losses in terms of us not needing to bring in the likes of cleaners or a stadium manager at Broadwood. "There's two jobs at risk and if those jobs are deemed to be unsuitable, we will go through a redundancy process, but there will be recruitment across other areas of the club as well."

'It's something different'- Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson
Work has commenced on a brand-new stitch pitch at The Racecourse so it is ready for the start of the 2025-26 campaign when the Reds will compete in the Championship after finishing runners-up in League One this term to secure an historic third successive promotion. The club has invested more than £1 million on the playing surface, with undersoil heating being installed alongside new irrigation and drainage systems. In other work being carried out at the iconic north Wales stadium ahead of Wrexham's first season in the second tier for 43 years, when they will come up against the likes of Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town, the dugouts are being moved from one side of the pitch to the other. Parkinson, appointed manager in July 2021, is used to shouting instructions on the touchline in front of the Reds' substitutes and his backroom staff who sit at the front of the Wrexham Lager Stand but they will now be housed in the first few rows of the Macron Stand. On the move, the Reds' boss commented: "It is something different and I am cool about it. "I can get to know the fans on that side a bit more now!"

Wrexham: How many miles will fans travel in Championship?
Phil Parkinson's men finished runners-up in League One this season, securing an historic third successive promotion. It's been an amazing journey since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover at The Racecourse, with the Reds climbing from the National League to the second tier where they will ply their trade for the first time in 43 years when competitive football starts back in August. And fans will travel nearly 6,700 miles following Wrexham, with many taking in some new stadiums along the way. Supporters once again travelled in big numbers when the Reds finished second in League One this term, registering 92 points - a club record in the Football League - to clinch automatic promotion alongside champions Birmingham City. Having notched up 6,006 miles in the 23 away games in the third tier, fans will spend more time on the road in the Championship when 6,656 miles will be clocked up. It's still not as bad at the 7,794 miles when Wrexham were crowned National League champions following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign, although the Red and White army only travelled 5,870 miles in the 2023-24 campaign when they saw their side finish runners-up in League Two. Stoke City, who play at the bet365 Stadium, is a mere 43 miles from The Racecourse and just an 86-mile round trip, making it the closest away game in 2025-26. That is one of nine matches under 100 miles away as Wrexham will also come up against Preston North End (70), Blackburn Rovers (73), West Bromwich Albion (75), Birmingham City (81), Derby County (82), Sheffield United (89), Sheffield Wednesday (88) and Coventry City (97). Trips to Leicester City (118), Swansea City (134), Hull City (148), Oxford United (160), Bristol City (166), Middlesbrough (166), Watford (177) and Queens Park Rangers (199) will be bearable when the Reds play in the second tier for the first time since the 1981-82 season. At the other end of the scale, six fixtures are over 200 miles away. The furthest journey is to Portsmouth when supporters will travel 239 miles to see James McClean and his team-mates in action at Fratton Park. That is closely followed by the 236 mile journey across country for the fixture at Norwich City, while Millwall (211), Southampton (221), Ipswich Town (225) and Charlton Athletic (230) are the other long treks as Wrexham come up against some teams they haven't faced for years. Supporters haven't got long to wait until they can start making travel arrangements, overnight stays or even plans for home games. The EFL has announced that next season's fixtures will be released on Thursday June 26 at 12pm. The Championship campaign kicks-off over the weekend of August 8-10. The scheduled 46 rounds of league matches will take place across 33 weekends, nine midweeks and four Bank Holidays in the second tier. Wrexham's final league match will be over the weekend of May 2-3. The Play-Offs will take place during the 2025 May Bank Holiday weekend. 2024-25 MILEAGE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP Birmingham City - 81 Blackburn Rovers - 73 Bristol City - 166 Charlton Athletic - 230 Coventry City - 97 Derby County - 82 Hull City - 148 Ipswich Town - 225 Leicester City - 118 Middlesbrough - 166 Millwall - 211 Norwich City - 236 Oxford United - 160 Portsmouth - 239 Preston North End - 70 Queens Park Rangers - 199 Sheffield United - 89 Sheffield Wednesday - 88 Southampton - 221 Stoke City - 43 Swansea City - 134 Watford - 177 West Bromwich Albion - 75 TOTAL MILEAGE - 3,328 x 2 = 6,656
