PM gifts Bihar with projects worth Rs 48,500 crore
Bikramganj, May 30 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday gifted Bihar with projects worth Rs 48,500 crores in power, road, railway and education sectors, which would accelerate the pace of development of the state.
Modi, during a public meeting at Bikramganj in Rohtas district of Bihar, launched and laid foundation stones for several projects by pressing the button of the remote control system. Projects are related to power, roads, railways and energy sectors.
"All the projects either launched today or for which foundation stones have been laid will accelerate the pace of development of Bihar in days ahead," the prime minister said, adding that India could be a developed nation only if Bihar became a developed state. It was a day for people of Bihar, which would usher in a new era of development and growth, creating job opportunities for youths and also improving the quality of life, he added.
Modi laid the foundation stones for NTPC Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-2, four projects of six laning and four laning of National Highways; and the construction of Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli on NH-22.
Two projects of four-laning of National Highways, 192-bed dormitories for students and staff quarters at Navodaya Vidyalaya, automatic signalling between Sasaram and Anugrah Narayan Road, and the 3rd rail line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj were also inaugurated by the Prime Minister.

Union Ministers, MPs must safeguard state's interests: DKS
Bengaluru: In view of Maharashtra CM raising objection to increasing height of Alamatti dam, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday called upon the Union Ministers and MPs from Karnataka to safeguard state's interests. 'As per the Krishna Tribunal's order, Karnataka can increase the height of Alamatti dam to 524 meters. Maharashtra, which was quiet when the order was pronounced, has suddenly written a letter to our CM objecting to it. I appeal to all the Union Ministers and MPs with folded hands to protect state's interest in this,' the DCM, who also handles Irrigation portfolio, said addressing a press conference at Vidhana Soudha. 'Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has written a letter to our CM Siddaramaiah on May 9 raising objection to increasing the height of Alamatti dam. Stating that Sangli and Kolhapur districts would face flooding if the height of the dam is raised, the letter has asked for re-evaluating the plan. This letter is a shock to us. Maharashtra had never raised objection to this project till now. They had not raised any issues when the Tribunal passed its judgement in 2010. Maharashtra had even submitted an affidavit to the Tribunal seeking increasing Alamatti height but it is opposing it all of a sudden. 'This project is our right accorded by the Krishna Tribunal. Our CM will give a reply to the letter by the Maharashtra CM. Union Minister V Somanna is part of Union Jal Shakthi ministry. Alamatti project is needed for the state, we don't want friction with our neighbouring state. The cost escalation is very due to delay in this project. We would need Rs 1 lakh crore for land acquisition for this project,' he said. 'Flooding in Maharashtra is their internal matter and they need to fix it. We will meet the PM and the Union Jal Shakthi Minister and put pressure regarding this. Karnataka has been waiting for a Gazette notification for increasing Alamatti height since 2013. How long should we wait? We will share the letter from Maharashtra CM and our reply to that to all our MPs.' Asked if Maharashtra CM's letter has a political motive, he said, 'I don't want to get into that now, I will only speak for our state's interest. There is no scientific basis for the letter. Increasing Alamatti dam is our right and we appeal to all parties concerned to let us execute the project.'

Trump files appeal to SC over federal mass firings
Washington, June 3 (UNI) The U.S. Trump administration has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court seeking to overturn the federal court's injunction that had prevented federal agencies from carrying out large-scale workforce reductions and reorganizations. In the appeal, U.S. Solicitor General John Sauer argued that "controlling the personnel of federal agencies lies at the heartland" of the president's authority, and "the Constitution does not erect a presumption against presidential control of agency staffing, and the president does not need special permission from Congress to exercise" his core constitutional powers. On May 30, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit rejected the Trump administration's appeal, upholding the temporary injunction issued earlier by Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The injunction barred federal agencies and the Office of Management and Budget from moving forward with broad-scale layoffs and structural reorganizations. The Ninth Circuit held that implementing extensive layoffs and reorganizations would seriously impair many areas, including the national food safety system and veterans' healthcare, and therefore such actions should be suspended while the litigation proceeds. On May 9, Illston issued a two-week temporary injunction requiring federal agencies to halt enforcement of the administrative order signed by President Donald Trump in February, as well as the subsequent memorandum issued by the Office of Management and Budget. She also ordered agencies to rescind any layoff notices issued under the president's order, to reinstate positions for employees placed on administrative leave, and to provide appropriate compensation. In her ruling, Illston stated that the president must obtain congressional approval in order to reform federal agencies. Agencies may not undertake mass reorganizations or layoffs without authorization from Congress. On May 22, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California further ruled to extend the injunction indefinitely.
