Special Report: RLF AgTech has reported a strong end to FY25 with cash receipts of $8.9 million in Q4, up 254% on the previous quarter and up 74% YoY with a full year positive operating cashflow.
Reflecting continued improvement in business performance RLF AgTech (ASX:RLF) achieved net cash from operating activities of $800,000 for FY25, up 782% on FY24 of $90k and a 'complete turnaround' from FY23, which saw a deficit of $3.67m.
RLF is a leading provider of crop nutrition products designed to improve agricultural productivity, crop quality and soil health.
The company has completed its first full financial year under renewed leadership and a redefined business strategy.
RLF's June quarter results provide the clearest view yet of its operational cash performance following the comprehensive business restructure.
Positive results include FY25 customer receipts of $26m, up 74% from FY24, attributed to improved sales conversion and performance, with growth recorded across all key regions.
Core operations remained cash generative despite absorbing the one-off costs of group restructuring, transition and new market investment, reflecting the strength of the underlying business.
During FY25 balance sheet restructure debt was materially reduced, interest waived and repayment terms extended, freeing working capital for growth investment.
RLF's cash balance on 30 June 2025, was $6.5m, up 39% YoY, driven by operating performance and disciplined cash management.
The company said the uplift also reflected successful integration of the RLF LiquaForce business, which it acquired in May 2024.
Strategic expenditure for future growth
RLF said the turnaround in FY25 was achieved during a year of substantial strategic expenditure across multiple fronts.
In August 2024, the company formally exited a legacy Australian distribution agreement, regaining full commercial rights to the Australian market leading to the formation of RLF Australia.
The standalone entity required investment and cash outlay across staffing, systems, training resources, promotional materials, product relabelling and national sales coverage.
RLF said It had since become a cornerstone of its growth strategy, enabling direct engagement with key distributors, resellers and growers, while restoring access to revenue streams previously unavailable to the company.
RLF Australia has secured major distribution partnerships with a footprint now spanning more than 500 retail locations, supported by new marketing, technical and logistics capabilities.
In parallel, the company undertook a comprehensive restructuring of its group operations, including streamlining overheads, consolidating reporting lines and redefining roles across domestic and international divisions.
RLF also invested in new equipment and manufacturing capabilities to strengthen its operational base and support commercial programs and grower confidence heading into FY26.
The company upgraded its manufacturing facility in Queensland, bringing cost-effective production in-house and enabling increased responsiveness to distributor and grower demand.
Among strategic purchases was a Variable Rate Applicator for RLF LiquaForce to enhance precision in product application and trial deployment, aligning with its commitment to innovation and agronomic efficiency.
China business recovery with record cash collection
RLF reported Q4 FY25 cash collections in China at record levels of $5.3m, signalling a successful rebound from the same period in FY24.
June pre-orders in the country rose 73% YoY, demonstrating successful distributor engagement and effective digital-led marketing under its Technology Empowering Agriculture theme.
In Vietnam, repeat orders and trial programs from three major distributors including KONA, VINCO, YAMATO signal growing commercial momentum.
The company said new trials in coffee and durian showcased RLF's relevance in high-value crops.
In India, trials with Gujarat Pesticides, ANU Production, Agrico Organic and Geolife mark the beginning of a strategic entry into one of the world's largest fertiliser markets.
Entering biologicals segment
RLF signed an exclusive agreement with AXIOMA Biologicals to distribute its innovative plant-based biostimulants across Australia, China and Asia.
The deal sees RLF's portfolio enter the fast-growing biologicals segment, enabling new margin opportunities.
The company said the biologicals offered growers new, environmentally responsible solutions that aligned with RLF's technology-based approach and enhanced the value of its traditional nutrition offerings.
RLF has also had success with its Hillston Soil Carbon Project, delivering strong measured outcomes, helping validate its carbon and soil sustainability integrated nutrition strategy.
This supports the company's position in the regenerative agriculture sectors.
Board renewal and new management
Acting managing director Gavin Ball stepped into the top role following the restructure about 12 months ago, after first investing in RLF more than a decade ago when it was a private company.
During FY25, directors Liza Carpene and Donald McLay left the board and were recognised for their pivotal roles in the company's ASX debut in 2022 and expansion.
In April, seasoned executive Ben Barlow stepped in as non-executive chair, tasked with steering the next phase of growth.
RLF said further board renewal remained a priority, as the company aligned its governance with its expanding scale and strategic ambitions.
Planting the seeds for scaled growth in FY26
RLF said it entered FY26 with strengthened operations, national market access and a clearer commercial identity.
In Australia, the company said it was well-positioned to drive revenue growth through an established distribution network, expanded field support and the integration of AXIOMA's biological product range.
In China, momentum is building with increased pre-orders, distributor re-engagement and margin recovery underway, while in Southeast Asia RLF said recent market entries were expected to translate into expanding commercial orders following success of initial trial programs.
With a simplified structure, increasingly diversified product base and positive operating cashflows, RLF said it was entering a new phase of commercial scale-up.
'The results of FY25 validate the strategy in place and provide the foundation to deliver meaningful shareholder value in FY26 and beyond,' the company said.

Asset prices are now regularly soaring to new heights. To be clear, this is not normal. Asset prices, including property and share prices, rise over time, sure, but not to brave new heights daily. Why is this happening? And are these once-risky financial markets now perceived as a sure bet? These questions and the future of the Australian economy and 15 million jobs attached to it are what worry investment experts and economists. Tracking the Australian property market's upward momentum is straightforward. On the demand side, investment tax breaks, lower interest rates and a steady flow of migrants generate plenty of demand. Indeed, the number of new investor loan commitments for dwellings rose 3.5 per cent in the June quarter, which drove overall lending activity. On the supply side, a chronic housing shortage, despite efforts from both state and federal governments to break more ground on housing, has also supported house prices. Under the government's lofty 1.2 million homes target, roughly 240,000 new homes need to be built every year to meet growing demand, but we're falling short of that mark by about 60,000 homes a year. The lack of available property is also pushing up rents, with Sydney and Brisbane leading the charge, according to property market analysis firm Cotality (formerly CoreLogic). Cotality's capital city rental value index rose 3.0 per cent in the year to July, up from 2.7 per cent in June, marking the end of a 16-month run of moderating or stable rental growth. Meanwhile, the share market has produced several record highs in recent weeks. On Friday, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index — the main index tracking the ups and downs of the market — surpassed 8,900 points. That's an all-time high, following several records this week and last. It means the share market is up 22 per cent since it belly-flopped after US President Donald Trump's so-called "liberation day" tariff hikes. Bitcoin and gold, too, are also consistently at or approaching all-time highs weekly. Analysts say there is a direct link between this asset price appreciation and record levels of liquidity, or cash, in the economy. Central banks can increase levels of liquidity by lowering interest rates and buying bonds — anything that puts cash in the economy. It's worth bringing up a bit of economic jargon at this point. "Moral hazard" is an economic concept that describes the pickle firms get into when they know they'll be bailed out — for example, by a central bank or government — if they make mistakes or take on too much risk. You could argue moral hazard was created in 2008 when the US government bailed out some of Wall Street's biggest banks with the "troubled assets relief program" and the Emergency Economic Stabilisation Act. It set a global precedent that implicitly stated: If you make recklessly risky financial investments that eventually sour, governments and central banks will bail you out because the alternative is too horrific. But is there more going on here? Is it possible that central bank "liquidity-at-the-ready" is not just emboldening companies to make riskier financial decisions, but a signal to investors that their investments aren't as risky as they had thought? I asked Reserve Bank governor Michele Bullock on Tuesday if she accepted that the RBA had effectively underwritten financial markets, taking away significant levels of risk for investors. "The guiding light here has to be inflation and employment [in terms of monetary policy]," she said. "[The RBA] also has responsibility for financial stability matters and it will be there [to support the markets], but it's not going to come in just for the sake of protecting asset prices. "We don't aim at asset prices. "We are focused on inflation and employment." Financial stability is becoming increasingly important for Australia. Our superannuation industry is now worth more than $4 trillion and is increasingly exposed to Wall Street, which is riddled with financial risks, analysts say. But there's also a heavy concentration of ownership in a few big-name Australian stocks, too. When the price of Commonwealth Bank shares slumped this week, boss Matt Comyn highlighted that 13 million Australians, directly or indirectly, owned the stock. Montgomery Investments founder Roger Montgomery said the RBA applied this approach to policy — focusing on its financial stability responsibilities — during the global financial crisis of 2008-2009. "The Reserve Bank's actions, particularly during crises like the [2009 financial crisis] and the COVID-19 pandemic, have shaped markets but the impact on risk isn't straightforward," he said. "The RBA has a mandate to maintain economic stability, including price stability, full employment and financial system stability. "During crises, it can inject liquidity into the financial system through measures like quantitative easing or providing funding to banks via facilities like the term funding facility (TFF) introduced during COVID-19. "These actions aim to stabilise markets, ensure credit availability and prevent systemic collapses." But the mere presence of this backstop now also seems to be supporting asset prices. "However, this expectation can encourage excessive risk-taking. "Investors may overweight riskier assets or overpay for stock, disregarding their price." There was an increased chance, he said, that investors would be "more inclined to FOMO [fear of missing out]". "The central bank's action may shorten the pain but it won't prevent the decline," he said. It all raises a crucial question for asset markets more broadly — has the very concept of risk changed? For example, you know if you put your cash in an Australian bank, it's very safe. You also know if you buy an Australian government security, you're highly likely to get your money back with some interest. But now it seems the more we invest in the share market or property market, and the bigger those markets grow, the more pressure builds on both the government and RBA to safeguard those markets. Why? Because a collapse in either market would be a wrecking ball through the economy. You can see why next week's economic reform round table is so important. Without robust levels of productivity, a credit crunch would be catastrophic to an economy propped up on mining, banking and the property market. The Reserve Bank can be there to support financial stability, but has it distracted us from building a strong backbone for the Australian economy?

Australia's new tax on electric vehicle drivers is set to kick off with a trial period for trucks before it stings cars. can reveal that the Albanese Government is looking at a staged rollout to test the proposed new EV tax and trucks will be the first cab off the rank. It is also interested in a new road user charge that sends price signals on the best time to be on the road, or the freeway. Over time, it could replace petrol taxes and apply to all cars based on distance travelled and when cars and trucks are on the road to tackle congestion. Free ride for EVs nearly over The free ride enjoyed by drivers of electric vehicles is coming to a close with Treasurer Jim Chalmers and state governments finalising plans for a new road-user charge. All Australian motorists who buy petrol and diesel at the bowser pay 51.6 cents a litre in fuel excise. But drivers of EV vehicles pay nothing. 'The status quo won't be sustainable over the next decade or two,'' Treasurer Jim Chalmers told 'As more and more people get off petrol cars and into EVs we've got to make sure that the tax arrangements support investment in roads. 'But we're in no rush, changes of this nature will be made, because the status quo won't work in 10 or 20 years.' The Treasurer made no secret of his support for a road user charge before the election, but favours a staged rollout of the changes. Based on a planned NSW road user scheme, a national rollout will depend on your mileage but might cost between $300 and $400 a year. Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas said that electric vehicles are 'heavier and do more damage to the road network as a consequence than do internal combustion engine vehicles'. 'By giving drivers a clear signal about the cost of infrastructure, they would have an incentive to use it more efficiently,' the ­Productivity Commission report said. How does fuel excise work? The current rate of fuel excise is 51.6 cents in excise for every litre of fuel purchased. For a typical household with a car running on petrol, the tax costs more than $1200 a year. But the flat sales tax isn't paid by drivers of pure electric vehicles, who simply need to plug in their cars to recharge. While registration and driver's licence fees go to state and territory governments, fuel excise is collected by the federal government. Australian motorists paid an estimated $15.71 billion in net fuel excise in 2023-24, and are expected to pay $67.6 billion over the four years to 2026-27. However, governments have long-warned that a road-user charge will be required to fill the gap in the budget left by declining revenue from the fuel excise, as the petrol and diesel engines in new cars consume less fuel and Australians adopt hybrid and electric cars. What does the AAA say? The Australian Automobile Association (AAA) is calling for a national approach to road-user charging but wants a guarantee the revenue will be earmarked for road upgrades. The AAA backs a distance-based road-user charging as a fairer and more equitable way to fund land transport infrastructure. The 2024 federal budget forecasted a reduction in fuel excise receipts by $470 million over four years from 2024-25. Roadblocks to reform Currently, New South Wales is the only state with firm plans to introduce a road-user charge from 2027 or when EVs reach 30 per cent of new car sales. Plug-in hybrid EVs will be charged a fixed 80 per cent proportion of the full road-user charge to reflect their vehicle type. Western Australia has also stated an intention to implement a road-user charge. Meanwhile, Victoria's electric vehicle levy had to be scrapped following a ruling from the High Court. Two Victorian electric car owners launched a legal challenge on the basis the tax was not legal as it was an excise that only a federal government could impose. They won, with the High Court upholding the legal challenge. There have been several false starts to enshrine a road-user charge including in South Australia, where the former Liberal Government planned to introduce a charge for plug-in electric and other zero emission vehicles, which included a fixed component and a variable charge based on distance travelled. It was later pushed back to 2027 due to a backlash before the legislation was ultimately repealed. 'Gold standard' for reform Some experts argue the gold standard for reform is a variable rate that factors in the vehicle's mass, distance travelled, location, and time of day. But there's a big barrier to the Commonwealth imposing those charges because the Constitution prohibits it from imposing taxes that discriminate between states or parts of states.

Rooftop solar and home batteries could reduce the need for wind farms, research finds

At first blush, Suzanne Bradshaw and Greg Ash could be your typical household power consumers. They live in a house they built six years ago on a battleaxe block in the inner Perth suburb of Mount Lawley. Like so many households, theirs is one that increasingly relies on electricity — from the gadgets under their roof to the solar panels on top of it. But look a little closer and a different picture emerges. In a workshop attached to the house are a number of kilns — electric furnaces used by Ash to make glass. "I've been working on glass, this type of glass, for 23 years now," the 72-year-old says. "So they [the kilns] can consume a fair bit of power." Given their power needs, the couple have had to take steps to mitigate their exposure to the grid — and its associated costs. They were early adopters of solar power, forking out more than $20,000 for panels when the technology was still relatively expensive. In 2019, when they moved into their new house, they installed an even bigger system and followed it up with a battery a couple of years later. And to round it out, they have signed up for a type of dynamic pricing known as a time-of-use tariff, enabling them to draw dirt cheap power off the grid between 9am and 3pm every day. It costs them about nine cents for every kilowatt hour they buy from their retailer during those hours — but up to 45 cents per kilowatt hour at other times. "The good thing about that is if it's an overcast day and you're not getting as much solar coming in, you can top up your battery during the middle of the day," Bradshaw says. "That also means we're not using electricity during the peak… that other consumers need." The couple's circumstances are increasingly common among Australian consumers. Australia has long led the world in its adoption of rooftop solar and Western Australia is no exception. There are more than four million small-scale solar installations across the country's homes and businesses — equivalent to about one in three customers. It's a similar figure in WA, where about 400,000 small-scale customers have solar. And now, courtesy of generous subsidies led by the Commonwealth, uptake of batteries is booming, too. For the first time, registrations for batteries under the Federal Government's small-scale green energy scheme exceeded those for solar panels in July. A new report commissioned by the office of Brad Pettitt, the leader of the WA Greens, is urging the Cook Government to go much further. The report, written by green power advocates Sustainable Energy Now, suggests WA has barely scratched the surface of its rooftop solar capacity. It says "only 13 per cent of the potential capacity" for rooftop solar has been realised in WA's main grid, which spans the country's south-western corner. And it notes that of those customers who have solar, fewer than one in 20 have a battery as well. The lobby argues that better capitalising on WA's capacity for small-scale solar power and batteries could dramatically cut the need for large-scale projects required as part of the transition away from fossil fuels. "Fully utilising suitable rooftops" could slash the need for wind and solar farms while halving the requirement for new high-voltage power lines and saving billions, it argues. Crucially, it says small-scale solutions will also be much quicker than large-scale ones, a key advantage given the government's plan to get out of coal power by 2029. Pettitt says the state's current plan, which relies on large-scale projects, is off track. "The fastest and fairest way to decarbonise is actually utilising our rooftops," Pettitt says. "There are savings in the billions around needing less transmission. "We're saying 'let's get smart about this, using existing rooftops, we don't need to clear vegetation, we don't need to put in new transmission, we can do it now and we can do it quickly'." Not everyone supports the proposal. Greg Watkinson, the former chief executive of WA's economic watchdog and a director of Electricity Market Advisory Services, says there are risks for consumers in the plan. He says there are significant costs incurred by households and small businesses when they invest in solar panels and batteries and many can over-capitalise. By contrast, he says there are economies of scale when big businesses invest in large-scale projects such as major batteries and wind farms. What's more, he says those big businesses are sophisticated investors "who know what they're doing and it's their money to burn — if they waste it, it's on them". "The risk is that households end up spending too much," Watkinson says. "If we ended up having solar panels on everyone's roofs, maybe we'd be spending too much. "I expect we would be, so I don't think that's the way to go." WA Energy Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson declined a request for an interview. Instead, she issued a statement in which she said the government "recognises the importance of harnessing our vast rooftop solar resource". The Minister noted the government is helping up to 100,000 households to get batteries through its — albeit watered down — subsidy scheme. Glass artist Greg Ash thinks he's ahead of the game now he's got a battery along with his solar panels. "All you have to do is look at what's happening in the eastern states as opposed to here," Ash says. "We're better off with our power and gas than they are, but it will come back and bite us here, so people should be looking at solar and battery. "And hopefully that will get cheaper for the average person."
