Passing out Parade held at Indian Naval Academy in Kerala's Ezhimala
New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): The Passing Out Parade (POP) of Spring Term 2025 was conducted at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, on Saturday, said a statement from the Ministry of Defence.
186 trainees, comprising Midshipmen of the 107th and 108th Indian Naval Academy Course, and the 38th Naval Orientation Courses (NOC) (Extended), and cadets of 39th NOC (Extended), 40th NOC (Regular) and 41st NOC (Coast Guard), graduated with flying colours, marking the culmination of their ab-initio training. The passing out trainees included cadets from four friendly foreign countries.
Vice Admiral V Srinivas, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command reviewed the parade. The event was attended by VAdm CR Praveen Nair, Commandant, INA, other senior officers and distinguished guests.
The President's Gold Medal for standing first in the Indian Naval Academy B. Tech Course was awarded to Midshipman Nakul Saxena. Rajya Raksha Mantri Trophy for the Most Promising Cadet was awarded to Midshipman Kiondo Michael Florence, a trainee from Tanzania. This significant achievement by a foreign cadet stands testament to the inclusive and world-class training environment at the Indian Naval Academy.
Midshipman Nithin S Nair was awarded the FOC-in-C (South) Trophy for standing first in the order of merit among ex NDA trainees while the CNS Gold Medal for best in Naval Orientation Course (Extended) and for the Naval Orientation Course (Regular) were awarded to Cadet Pawar Rohit Prakash and Cadet Rajnish Singh respectively. The Director General Coast Guard trophy was awarded to Cadet Kommu David.
On this occasion, the Commandant's Champion Squadron Banner was awarded to Cheetah Squadron for displaying excellence across a wide spectrum of training activities including academic, service subjects, outdoor training, drill, sports, and extracurricular activities throughout the term.
The FOCINC SNC complimented the trainees on parade for their impeccable turnout, good military bearing and smart drill. He congratulated the passing out trainees, medal winners and the Champion Squadron for their hard work and outstanding performance. The Reviewing Officer acknowledged the training faculty's efforts and the parents' support.
He highlighted the importance of integrating foreign trainees, which not only strengthens international cooperation but also showcases India's Naval training excellence on the global stage.
On the completion of the parade, FOCINC SNC, the Commandant, INA, and other dignitaries shipped the stripes of passing out trainees. They interacted with the proud families who had gathered to witness the successful culmination of the rigorous training.
These officers will now proceed to various Naval training establishments and ships of the Indian Navy, to consolidate their training in specialised fields. (ANI)

Nashik (Maharashtra) [India], June 1 (ANI): The upcoming Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 will witness a significant traditional change, as the age-old practice of 'Shahi Snan' or royal bath will be replaced with 'Amrit Snan' for the first time. This decision was taken during a meeting of the Akhara Parishad and the Kumbh Mela organisers with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nashik on Sunday. 'The Kumbh Mela is held at four locations across the country Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik and it takes place based on where the drops of Amrit fell. The term Shahi Snan was introduced during the Mughal era. Therefore, this tradition is now being changed, and the Shahi Snan will henceforth be referred to as Amrit Snan. This decision was taken after discussions during a meeting between all 13 Akharas and the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nashik,' Mahant Bhakti Charan Das, spokesperson of All India Vaishnav Akhara told ANI. The move aims to infuse the event with a deeper spiritual and religious essence, steering it away from the display of grandiosity and power. Saints from various Akharas have stressed that the bathing ritual should symbolize spiritual discipline rather than royal pageantry. 'Referring to the sacred bath as 'Amrit Snan' aligns more closely with the true purpose of the event,' said Mahant Bhakti Charan Das. According to Hindu beliefs, bathing during the Kumbh Mela cleanses one of all sins. The name 'Amrit Snan' draws from the mythological tale of the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), where drops of divine nectar--Amrit--were believed to have fallen at the Kumbh sites, including Nashik. The Akharas view 'Amrit Snan' as a return to the festival's spiritual roots, ensuring the focus remains on devotion, penance, and salvation rather than spectacle. Earlier today, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said preparations have been underway following discussions with chiefs of various Akharas ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 in Nashik. 'A meeting was organised in relation to the Kumbh Mela of Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, in which the 13 major Akharas were also present. We discussed the event in the presence of all the Mahants, saints, priests... This time the fair is going to be long, so people will get to see many important 'Amrit Snan' dates and holy festivals...,' CM Fadnavis told reporters here. He also said that the government has come up with a plan to ensure the cleanliness of the Godavari River.'A plan has also been prepared to ensure that our Godavari Maa flows clean and uninterrupted... Works worth Rs 2,000 crores are in the pipeline. Overall, preparations have been made here so that a divine and grand fair is held,' CM Fadnavis said. The Nashik Kumbh, one of the largest religious gatherings in India, is held once every 12 years, where devotees come to take a holy bath on the banks of the Godavari River. The Maharashtra government is focused on ensuring smooth arrangements, including sanitation, security, and infrastructure development. Key decisions are expected to be finalized in the coming months. Chhattisgarh: Central Jail Raipur initiates unique step to transform prisoners through education
Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], June 1 (ANI): Chhattisgarh's Raipur Jail has taken a unique step by engaging prisoners in the activities of learning astrology, Ayurveda, knowledge of performing rituals of various Hindu ceremonies and others, invoking the thought that transformation in life could be achieved by getting engaged in positive activities. Several educational activities are ongoing in jail as part of the ongoing campaign. Superintendent of Central Jail Raipur, Yogesh Singh, said, 'Sanskrit Vidya Mandalam offers courses from class 6th to 12th. Sanskrit courses are provided from class 6th to 12th, vocational education in Sanskrit is also provided from class 11th to 12th, in which astrology, Ayurveda and various rituals are taught... This is also a kind of skill development. A total of 68 prisoners are currently studying in this course. 291 prisoners are enrolled in primary, secondary, high school, open school examination, school education, undergraduate and postgraduate courses conducted by Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU) and IGNOU. Through this course, the jail administration has tried to engage the prisoners in positive activities, and we believe that after being released from jail, they will engage in positive activities.' 'In the ongoing Sanskrit course, the prisoners of class 11th and 12th are being subjected to professional learning about astrology, Ayurveda, and studies related to religious activities,' informed the Jail Superintendent. This is a type of skill development because the course is related to professional work, added Singh. The officer said that 68 prisoners from classes 6th to 12th are engaged in learning this course. The Jail Superintendent further said that apart from this Sanskrit course, 291 prisoners are enrolled in primary, middle, and higher school, open school examinations, and undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by the school education, Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU), and IGNOU. He further said that there is ample time when the prisoners are in jail. 'They can use the time in constructive or even negative activities. We provide them opportunities to utilise it in a positive activity. Through the Sanskrit teaching, we are helping them think in a positive direction,' he added. (ANI)

Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann takes over as Sr Air Staff Officer of Western Air Command
New Delhi [India], June 1 (ANI): Air Marshal Jasvir Singh Mann assumed the role of Senior Air Staff Officer of the Western Air Command, Indian Air Force, effective June 1, as stated in the official announcement. The Air Marshal is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned as a fighter pilot in the IAF on 16 December 1989. He has flown over 3000 hours primarily on various types of fighter aircraft. He is a pilot Attack Instructor and in his operational career, he has commanded a fighter squadron, been Chief Operations Officer of a forward base and Air Officer Commanding of a premium fighter base, stated in the release. The release further mentioned that Jasvir Singh Mann has also held various important appointments at Air Headquarters and Command Headquarters. The Air Officer has directed Joint Military Training exercises with the Republic of Singapore Air Force in 2017 and the USAF in 2018. The Air Officer held the appointments of Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration & Air Defence Commander of Central Air Command. The Air Marshal is also an alumnus of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College and Royal College of Defence Studies, London (UK). Before taking over as Senior Air Staff Officer, Western Air Command, Indian Air Force, he was Director General (Weapon Systems) at Air Headquarters. The Air Officer is a recipient of the Presidential awards 'Ati Vishist Seva Medal' and 'Vayu Sena Medal'. (ANI)
