Residents at Ruby Lodge Care Home in Thirsk are looking forward to welcoming the local community to their May Fair event, taking place on Saturday, 31st May from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.
The event promises to be a fun-filled morning for all ages, with a vibrant selection of stalls, entertainment, and activities—all while raising money for a meaningful cause.
'This year's May Fair will support Andy's Man Club, a charity dedicated to suicide prevention and promoting mental health awareness for men," commented home manager Holly Hunton.
"We care for many male residents here at Ruby Lodge and know how important it is to help break down the sigma of men's mental health," commented home manager Holly Hunton.

Confirmed stallholders include: Jewellery by Carolyn, children's books and gifts from Claire and her 'Sparkling Touches,' bags and cushions by Cherie White. There will be Wooden crafts by Sarah Hubbock, and tote bags and baby clothes from Gillian Starkie. Vicky Queenan will be offering Oriflame cosmetics, while Go Indian Spice will bring a taste of the exotic with their selection of spices. Ana will be selling children's pens and stationery, and Lara Nursery will also be hosting a stall.
In addition to shopping, there will be plenty of entertainment and family-friendly activities. Local singer Paul Moore will perform live music, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Children will enjoy face painting and classic games like tug of war and the ever popular 'throw a sponge' challenge.
No fair would be complete without a sweet treat, and visitors can look forward to a visit from Pearson's Ices of Thirsk, who will be serving up delicious ice cream on site. Light refreshments will be available throughout the morning.

'You can't find better people than Stokies'

Stoke-on-Trent has been marking its 100th birthday this week, after King George V declared it a city on 5 June 1925. As part of the celebrations, BBC Radio Stoke is gathering residents' stories and asking them to sign a giant oatcake card. These "Stokie stories" will be displayed in an exhibition later this year at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Hanley. Here are some of the Stokies who have spoken to us so far. Laura Price studied in London for two years and was so "terribly homesick" she couldn't wait to get back. "I absolutely hated it - the people weren't like Stokies, I missed Stoke." Laura says she particularly missed her hometown's friendly and chatty atmosphere. "You can't go into a shop in Stoke without [getting to know] the cashier's life story." "Just the craic, the laugh – you can't find better people than you can in Stoke-on-Trent." Laura, who returned after studying complementary therapies and beauty therapy, now works in the city and lives with her husband and daughter. Harji Kaur, who teaches Bollywood and Bhangra dance classes, says she feels "blessed" that people come to her sessions and enjoy themselves. "I am really grateful and thankful to the community," she says. "I am from a different country, from a different language, but still they accept me the way I am." Harji adds that she has psoriasis which has affected her bones, meaning that she is often in pain before a session starts. "[But] when I come to this class, when I see people come to me and they trust me, I just forget my pain," she says. Sue Smith moved to Stoke nine years ago with her husband Barry, after closing her eyes and pointing randomly to a place on a map of England. "As soon as we got here, I loved it," she says. Sue says her approach to life is to "try anything once" - she did a parachute jump when she was 18 and emigrated to Canada when she was 21. She returned to the UK in her 50s and met Barry. He died last year and Sue says losing him has been "the most horrendous thing". "We met in later life and we had lots of things planned," she says. "I really wish I'd met Barry when I was younger, but I didn't, and I had 14 wonderful years with him so it was magic." Moonii Jawadin was told he might die within a fortnight due to an aggressive type of leukaemia. "It was just a shock - being told you've got two weeks to live," he said. At one point during his illness, he was in an induced coma at Royal Stoke Hospital and his loved ones came to "say goodbye to me". "My sister was my donor and she saved my life. She's my hero - she can ask for anything and I'll get it [for] her," he says. "I wake up every day [now] knowing I can breathe, I can walk - these are all blessings that we take for granted," he says. Follow BBC Stoke & Staffordshire on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X and Instagram. How to watch WWE Money in the Bank 2025: Live stream and match card for tonight

Plenty is at stake as WWE Money in the Bank takes place tonight. As has been the case ever since the concept was introduced back in 2005, the main focus this year is without a doubt the two Money in the Bank ladder matches. This is where the ring is filled with multiple ladders for six superstars to use to ultimately climb and retrieve the briefcase hanging high above. The winner is declared once one superstar unhooks the aforementioned briefcase. Inside the briefcase is a contract that gives the winner the power to challenge for any championship at any time they choose, within a 12 month period - which means every single champion on the roster is vulnerable. The likes of Seth Rollins, Solo Sikoa and LA Knight will do battle in the men's match whilst Alexa Bliss, Naomi and Rhea Ripley have qualified for what what promises to be an epic women's Money in the Bank ladder match. Elsewhere on the card, Lyra Valkyria will defend the Women's Intercontinental championship against Becky Lynch in a heated rematch and Cody Rhodes partners up with Jey Uso in an intriguing tag team showdown against John Cena and Logan Paul. Live stream: In the UK, WWE Money in the Bank 2025 can be watched and streamed live on Netflix. Coverage starts at 11.30pm BST on Saturday, June 7, 2025. A membership costs £4.99 a month and the subscription can be cancelled at any time.
