Updated WTC Points Table: How the standings look as New Zealand crush Zimbabwe – Where does India stand?
New Zealand's demolition of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo by an innings and 359 runs might have made headlines for its sheer dominance, but it has no bearing on the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 table — and therefore no direct impact on India's current standing.
That is because Zimbabwe, despite being a full member nation of the ICC, are not part of the WTC cycle. When the tournament was launched in 2019, only the top nine Test teams as of 31 March 2018 were included. Zimbabwe, along with Ireland and Afghanistan, missed out and have yet to be added to the competition.

World Test Championship (WTC) Points Table for the 2025–27 cycle
At the moment, following the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy series, India are placed third on the WTC table with a points percentage of 46.67. England sit just behind in fourth with 43.33. Australia lead the way with a perfect 100 points from their opening matches, while Sri Lanka are second on 66.67.

Should Zimbabwe be included in the ICC World Test Championship in the future?
Yes
No
Only if they improve
For India, New Zealand's result changes nothing right now. The Kiwis — winners of the inaugural 2019-21 cycle — have yet to start their WTC 2025-27 campaign, which begins in December with a three-Test home series against West Indies.

The match in Bulawayo, however, was historic. New Zealand declared at 601 for three before skittling Zimbabwe out twice, Zak Foulkes grabbing five wickets in the second innings to seal the third-biggest innings victory in Test history.
While it will not shift the WTC standings today, performances like this are a reminder that when the Kiwis do join the race, they could be one of India's biggest hurdles on the road to the 2027 final.

New Zealand Crushes Zimbabwe, Secures Historic Series Win
Last Updated: Zimbabwe's batting struggles against New Zealand resulted in no fifty-plus scores, a historic low. Zimbabwe's batting struggles in the recent series against New Zealand led to an undesirable record. It marked only the sixth time in Test history that a team played a series of at least two matches without scoring a single fifty-plus. As Wisden noted, Sean Williams' 49 in the first Test was Zimbabwe's highest individual score in the series. This last occurred in the 1895-96 season when South Africa's Barberton Halliwell top-scored with 41 in a three-match home series against England. Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, and Rachin Ravindra each scored centuries, while pacer Zakary Foulkes delivered a historic spell, helping New Zealand achieve an overwhelming victory over Zimbabwe by an innings and 359 runs in Bulawayo on Saturday. With this win, the Kiwis secured a 2-0 series triumph and registered their largest win in Test cricket history. This win also ranks as the third-largest victory margin in Tests by runs, following England's innings and 579 runs win over Australia in 1938 and Australia's innings and 360 runs win over South Africa. After Zimbabwe won the toss, only Brendan Taylor (44 off 107 balls, with six fours) and Tafadzwa Tsiga (33* off 54 balls, with four boundaries) managed to cross the 20-run mark, as Matt Henry (5/40) and Foulkes (4/38) bowled out Zimbabwe for a mere 125 runs in 48.5 overs. In their first innings, New Zealand posted a massive total. Opener Devon Conway (153 off 245 balls, with 18 fours) ended his two-year century drought, forming a 162-run opening stand with Will Young (74 off 101 balls, with 11 fours). Nicholls (150* off 245 balls, with 15 fours) and Rachin (165* off 139 balls, with 21 fours and two sixes) contributed a substantial 256-run partnership for the fourth wicket as New Zealand declared at 601/3, leading by 476 runs. Facing this massive deficit, Zimbabwe struggled under scoreboard pressure from the start, with only Nick Welch (47* off 71 balls, with seven fours) managing over 20 runs. Foulkes (5/37), Henry, and Jacob Duffy (two wickets each) bowled out Zimbabwe for just 117 runs, securing a resounding victory. Conway's comeback century, which helped him surpass 2,000 Test runs and 5,000 international runs, earned him the 'Player of the Match' award.
