UAE serves as model in advancing women's leadership
The UAE has developed a comprehensive framework for women's empowerment, adopting a systematic approach to address challenges, expand opportunities and prepare women for leadership across multiple sectors. These efforts have strengthened the country's competitiveness regionally and globally. National entities, such as the UAE Gender Balance Council and Dubai Women Establishment, have contributed significantly to developing Emirati women's leadership capacities and facilitating their advancement to senior posts in both the public and private sectors, in cooperation with leading international organisations. Speaking to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Mouza Mohammed Al Ghuwais Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the UAE Gender Balance Council, said that the Council is intensifying efforts to increase women's participation in the private sector and raise their representation in leadership positions. This, she said, is being achieved through strategies and initiatives aimed at creating inclusive and balanced workplaces, in partnership with strategic stakeholders from both public and private sectors. She highlighted that a number of national and international companies operating in the UAE have joined the 'SDG 5 Pledge to Accelerate Women's Leadership in the UAE Private Sector'. These companies have voluntarily committed to raising women's representation in middle and senior management roles to at least 30 percent by 2025 for the first group, and by 2028 for the second group of companies that have recently joined the initiative. The UAE Gender Balance Council Strategy 2026 aims to further reduce the gender gap across all sectors, enhance the UAE's ranking in global competitiveness reports on gender equality and achieve gender balance in decision-making positions, as well as promote the UAE's status as a benchmark for gender balance legislation. In this context, the UAE ranked first regionally and 13th globally in the 2025 Gender Inequality Index published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Naeema Ahli, CEO of Dubai Women Establishment, said that advancing Emirati women's leadership remains one of the organisation's key priorities. She noted that the Establishment continues to design and implement advanced training programmes to build leadership skills for women across sectors, while also preparing them for senior roles in international organisations through specialised programmes developed with global institutions and universities with expertise in executive and leadership education. She added that these programmes aim not only to provide women with modern leadership knowledge and skills, but also to strengthen their understanding of leadership dynamics in changing work environments and build their confidence in decision-making roles.

Nissan Rolls Out Next-Gen Connected Services Across Patrol Lineup in the Middle East
Nissan is elevating the connected driving experience in the Middle East with the regional rollout of its next-generation Connected Car Services 2.0 (CCS 2.0), now available across the entire Patrol lineup, including the all-new PRO-4X and NISMO editions. Building on the momentum of the all-new Patrol launch earlier this year, the brand is focusing on delivering a smarter, more integrated ownership and driving journey through advanced digital connectivity. At the heart of this innovation is the MyNissan app, which offers a range of enhanced features to strengthen the connection between driver and vehicle. Leading this digital transformation is the global debut of the MyNissan Ownership feature in the Middle East. Available through MyNissan App, the feature offers four essential services: booking a service appointment, scheduling a test drive, locating a nearby Nissan dealer, and discovering local attractions. Designed to simplify routine interactions, this intuitive tool reflects Nissan's commitment to delivering customer-first innovations that begin well before the engine starts. Through Connected Car Services 2.0, Patrol owners can now access a wide array of remote functions and real-time data. These include remote locking and unlocking, monitoring the status of doors, windows, and trunk, starting the engine, and pre-setting the cabin temperature from anywhere via the MyNissan app. The system also delivers live vehicle health diagnostics, providing updates on the status of critical components such as battery, oil pressure, tire condition, airbags, and more. This empowers owners to stay informed and in control of their vehicle's condition at all times. Thierry Sabbagh, Divisional Vice President and President – Middle East, KSA, CIS – Nissan and INFINITI, said: 'The Middle East continues to play a pivotal role in Nissan's global innovation journey, and we are proud that the new ownership experience within the MyNissan app made its world debut here in the region. With the all-new Patrol, we have elevated the connected driving experience across every touchpoint, from CCS 2.0 enhancements to the expanded capabilities of the MyNissan app. As we continue rolling out the app, our goal is to unify and simplify how our customers interact with their vehicle and with Nissan.' Connectivity inside the cabin has also been redefined. The Patrol is the first Nissan vehicle in the region to offer Google built-in, enabling seamless access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play directly from the vehicle's 28.6-inch Monolith display. An embedded internet connection ensures continuous updates and reliable access to online services, transforming the Patrol into a fully connected SUV. In addition, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allow drivers to stay connected to their digital lives effortlessly, enhancing safety, personalization, and convenience. The rollout of these enhanced connected services is now live across all Patrol models in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with further expansion to additional models and countries planned in the coming months as part of Nissan's broader digital strategy. This expansion underscores Nissan's long-term vision for a fully connected and customer-centric mobility ecosystem. The complete Patrol line-up including the recently-launched all-new Patrol PRO-4X, and Middle East-exclusive all-new Patrol NISMO, is now available through Nissan's partner network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and the wider region.

Google invests in nuclear power for its data centres
Google has reached an agreement with energy company Kairos Power to build a small modular nuclear reactor to supply power to their data centres across two US states. Starting in 2030, government-owned utility the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is set to purchase up to 50 megawatts of power from Kairos Power's Hermes 2 reactor located in the state of Tennessee. In addition to Tennessee, the reactor is due to also help power Google's data centres in the state of Alabama. The companies stated TVA is the first US utility to sign a purchase power agreement to buy electricity from an advanced nuclear reactor. Hermes 2 is also the first deployment under an agreement Google and Kairos Power inked in 2024 to launch the start-up's nuclear technology at a commercial scale to bring 500 megawatts of capacity online by 2035 to support the tech giant's load growth. Amanda Peterson Corio, Google's global head of Data Centre Energy, said the partnership would 'accelerate the deployment of innovative nuclear technologies and help support the needs of our growing digital economy while also bringing firm carbon-free energy to the electricity system'. She noted lessons from the development and operation of the Hermes 2 plant would 'help drive down the cost of future reactors, improving the economics of clean firm power generation in the TVA region and beyond'. The increasing use of generative AI is putting a strain on the US electrical grid as companies including Google, OpenAI, Microsoft and xAI require massive amounts of power to train their models. Last month, Google reached agreements with two US electricity companies to reduce its AI data centre energy consumption during spikes in demand on the grid.
