While Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud appears to have no concerns as he continues to not throw at OTAs, there is an additional update from head coach DeMeco Ryans. As Stroud leads the way for the Texans in the foreseeable future, Ryans would ease people's questions regarding the signal-caller and why he isn't throwing during OTAs.

Ryans would speak to the media in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, where he echoed the same sentiments as new offensive coordinator Nick Caley, that there aren't any concerns. He would say 'it's just general soreness' with his shoulder as they are taking steps to not rush Stroud onto the field, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
'There's no concerns with C.J.,' said Texans HC DeMeco Ryans. 'It's just general soreness. We're taking extra precaution with him, but he'll be good to go. No concerns on my end there.'
Last season, Stroud threw for 3,727 yards to go along with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, which was down from his rookie year, when he recorded 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns and five picks. While many could classify that as a classic sophomore slump, he looks for a big third season, but it remains to be seen how the shoulder soreness will heal.

Despite the current issue with the shoulder, the Texans' star quarterback will work with a new offensive coordinator this season in Caley, as mentioned before. Before Ryans spoke about the shoulder, Caley would also be asked about the limited participation from Stroud, according to NBC Sports.

'Yeah, he's locked in every step of the way. No concerns whatsoever,' Caley said during his press conference last Friday. 'I know DeMeco [Ryans] has already hit on this. Everybody has a specific routine relative to their own routine, specific to whatever.'
At any rate, Houston is looking to further improve after finishing with a 10-7 record, which won them the NFC South, though they were eliminated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round. The Texans open the season against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Sept. 7.

They defended their Presidents' Trophy dismally, missing the playoffs just one year after posting the best regular-season record. After firing Peter Laviolette and hiring Mike Sullivan as their head coach, the Rangers should be ready to make trades this offseason. Rangers GM Chris Drury should trade K'Andre Miller before the start of next year to turn over a dreadful blue line. Advertisement Miller is a restricted free agent, meaning he needs a new contract, and the Rangers maintain his rights. Another team could come along and sign him to an offer sheet, but those are exceedingly rare in the NHL. If Drury wants to move on from Miller, it would be in his best interest to trade him, or at least help another team facilitate the offer sheet. Sitting around and waiting for someone else to jump at him likely won't work for the Rangers here. Amid the Rangers' miserable season, Miller had the worst offensive output and plus-minus rating of his career. While the stats are not everything for defensemen, Miller did see his defensive play fall off, especially later in the season. It would be easy to chalk that up to a terrible Rangers team playing for a coach who knew he was on the outs. But it is not worth taking that risk at the price Miller will want to be paid. That being said, plenty of teams should be willing to take a chance on Miller and pay a few mid-round picks to get him. It won't be a massive trade for the Rangers, but it will help free up some cap space and roster space for this offseason. Miller may never be more valuable than he is now, especially if they give him a long-term contract. While the soon-to-be three-time Vezina Trophy winner did struggle at points, they aren't going to get rid of him. So the best way to handle it is to add defensemen to their team. After extending Neal Pionk before the playoffs, they may not be able to go UFA shopping. That could lead to a K'Andre Miller trade with the Rangers. A fascinating return piece would be Gabe Vilardi, a forward who is also an RFA. Advertisement The Sabres have three defensemen already on long-term deals, but are looking to trade Bowen Byram away. If they are looking for a bigger defender to replace the undersized Byram, Miller would be their guy. Kevyn Adams' top priority should be scoring, but for a team that has not made the playoffs in 15 years, they should be willing to try anything. The Utah Mammoth have used almost all of the draft pick overstock leftover from the Arizona Coyotes teardown. But with what is left, Miller could be a nice fit on their blue line. Owner Ryan Smith should want to make another big splash after picking up Mikhail Sergachev last year. Miller would be a nice fit, and the Mammoth should be willing to part with the extra picks, as they have already stocked their prospect pipeline. Jim Montgomery turned the Blues around once he became their coach, but the roster needs improvement. They traded for Cam Fowler during the season, but another defenseman would be huge. They could make a deal for Miller, sending picks back to the Rangers, and plug him into their second pair. It would be a solid fit and help them compete in a stacked Western Conference.

The New York Rangers are in the midst of a long, long offseason after going from winning the President's Trophy to missing the playoffs in a span of just a year. Advertisement The Rangers are reportedly exploring the trade market for defenseman K'Andre Miller, who will be a restricted free agent on July 1, as Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Wednesday's edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast. 'It's not a guarantee, but they are testing the market on Miller. They want to know what it is,' the hockey insider said. 'So, we'll see where it goes, but his name is definitely out there.' Miller has been a key piece of New York's blue line since being selected in the first round, No. 22 overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft. The 25-year-old played two seasons with the University of Wisconsin Badgers before breaking into the league full time in 2020-21. The Saint Paul, Minnesota native's best season came in 2022-23, when he managed 43 points over 79 games and established himself as an up-and-coming star on the blue line. Advertisement He's had a couple of down years since, managing 30 points in 80 games last year and following it up with 27 points in 74 games in 2024-25. But Miller's role has continued to grow after the departures of former captain Jacob Trouba, as well as Ryan Lindgren. Miller is in the final year of a two-year, $7.44 million contract, and will be due for a significant raise. The question is, will general manager Chris Drury give him one? Rangers are short on cap space The Rangers do not have a ton of salary cap space to work with this summer; the squad owns between approximately $8 and $11 million. It won't be easy to get Miller locked up, especially considering New York has a few other RFAs on the roster, including Arthur Kaliyev, Matt Rempe, Will Cuylle, Adam Edstrom, Matthew Robertson and Zac Jones. Advertisement A couple young players will also need new contracts after the 2025-26 campaign, most notably Braden Schneider, Brennan Othmann and Brett Berard. It isn't currently clear what kind of return the Rangers would be looking for in exchange for Miller, but draft capital is definitely somewhere New York could improve. In this window of contention — the Blueshirts have been to two Eastern Conference Finals in four years — they would be wise to start stocking the cupboards for the future. The big priority next offseason will be Artemi Panarin, who continues to be the best player on the roster but will be playing out the final season of his massive seven-year, $81.50 million contract in 2025-26. There will certainly be a couple of changes coming this summer, and Drury probably also wants to see if he can bring a free agent or two to New York this July. It'll be interesting to see if Miller is still a part of the team's plans for the long haul, or whether the front office moves on from the hulking blue liner this summer.
