Is Virtua Fighter 5 REVO cross-platform

Digital Trends12-05-2025

In the pantheon of the best fighting games, Virtua Fighter has fallen out of the spotlight in recent years. Thankfully, the upcoming video game Virtua Fighter 6 is poised to bring the series back to its former glory, but before that, we got a new version of the previous latest entry called Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. While it isn't quite a remake, this latest version is the definitive way to play this technical fighter. That said, the audience for this series is still smaller than most, so your ability to get online matches might be a concern. If you're curious whether or not this new version was given cross-platform support to increase the pool of players you can compete against, we'll give you the full breakdown.
Is Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O cross-platform?
The answer to whether or not Virtua Fighter 5 is cross-platform is two-fold. As of the time of this writing, no, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O has no cross-platform functionality, but that is because the game is currently only available on PC. That said, during the Virtua Fighter Spring Direct, we learned that not only is the game finally coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch 2, but it will launch with full crossplay support between all platforms. The official statement from Project Producer Seiji Aoiki reads: 'I know we've kept you waiting, our Steam release Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is finally coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2! Since Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.'s launch, we've heard your requests for multiplatform support via the official Virtua Fighter Discord and other channels. We on the development team want to give users on all platforms the opportunity to enjoy Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., so we are happy to bring you this announcement. Also, in bringing this title to multiple platforms, we're planning to include cross-play support. And to make your cross-play experience even smoother, the rollback functionality used in the Steam version will be supported on all platforms. We're going to include even more content to make this much more than a simple port, which we'll tell you about in future updates.'

The only thing left up in the air is when the game will hit consoles. No release date was given, but as soon as the game does come to these additional platforms, we at least know crossplay will be there.

Arc System Works and Marvel are tag-teaming a new fighting game

Watching Captain America and Iron Man duke it out is nothing new, but they're not usually speaking Japanese. At Wednesday's State of Play, Arc System Works debuted a brand-new Marvel fighting game called Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Arc is known for its excellent fighting entries, and this game looks to be more of the same, featuring fan-favorite characters with a distinctive anime-like flair. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a four-versus-four tag team fighter that's reminiscent of games like Marvel vs Capcom, with colorful characters, over-the-top abilities, and bouts set against vibrant stage backgrounds. While there aren't a lot of details yet, PlayStation Studios announced the game will release on PlayStation 5 and PC in 2026. Recommended Videos The trailer opens with Captain America and Iron Man preparing to duel, right alongside Cap's quip of, 'We're friends. Why do we keep doing this?' Other characters like Spider-Man, Dr. Doom, Storm, Star Lord, and several more also made an appearance. There's no word on the exact number of characters, but Arc says it will continue to announce more characters as the game's release nears. In a post-trailer interview, Michael Francisco, senior product development manager at Marvel Games, said 'PlayStation approached us with this vision to bring Marvel back to the forefront of the tag fighting genre.' With regard to working with Arc system works, Francisco said, 'It's always refreshing to work with a team that will take on the challenge of tackling Marvel and putting their own spin on it, and then just uppercutting that challenge into the stratosphere.' Arc System Works is known for critically-acclaimed franchises like Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, and more. The influence is clear in the trailer, whether it's from Captain America's coat that looks like it would be right at home on an anime superhero like All-Might or the Gundam/mecha-inspired twist on Iron Man's suit. A game pitting eight characters at once against each other is sure to have a spitfire roster. Due out in 2026, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is poised to bring superhero-focused fighters back into the spotlight.

Nioh 3 is heading to PS5 and PC in 2026, complete with two distinct combat styles

Nioh 3 is heading to PlayStation 5 and PC in 2026 and you can get a taste of its Sengoku setting and dark samurai action on Sony's console right now. A demo for the game is live today on PS5 and it'll be available through June 18, courtesy of developer Team Ninja and publisher Koei Tecmo. The game reveal was a nice surprise during Sony's State of Play event today, and it came with a trailer showcasing big, demonic creatures and frantic action scenes. Much like its predecessors, Nioh 3 is a dark fantasy action RPG set in 15-century Japan. The original Nioh came out in 2017 and its sequel landed in 2020, with a handful of Dead or Alive installments released in between. Nioh 3 introduces a new combat system to the series that lets players swap between two distinct fighting styles, Samurai and Ninja. Samurai is similar to previous Nioh titles with a focus on close-range martial arts, while Ninja enables quick reactions like dodging and aerial moves. Players will be able to change combat styles on the fly. Nioh 3 features an open world — Team Ninja calls it an "open field," actually — to explore, as well. "Aside from the new battle styles, Nioh 3 also enables players to enjoy an open field that offers a new freedom of exploration to the unique tension and confrontations that have become a defining characteristic of the Nioh series," Team Ninja head Fumihiko Yasuda said on the PlayStation Blog. "Experience unexpected encounters with formidable yokai, explore suspicious villages riddled in violent secrets, and take on the daunting challenges of The Crucible."

Watch Live as Japanese Startup Attempts Moon Landing After Failed First Mission

The Resilience lander has spent the past six months traveling to the Moon, with plans to touch down in its far northern region. Japanese company ispace is aiming for a Thursday landing—its second attempt to reach the lunar surface. Resilience is set to land on June 5 at 3:24 p.m. ET, aiming for a smooth touchdown near the center of the Mare Frigoris region (which roughly translates to the sea of cold). The landing attempt will be streamed live on ispace's YouTube channel, beginning around one hour before the scheduled touchdown. You can also tune in through the feed below. Tokyo-based ispace launched its second mission to the Moon on January 15. Resilience hitched a ride along with another lander headed to the Moon. Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost landed on the Moon on March 2, while Resilience took a much longer route. Resilience first operated in an elliptical transfer orbit before using a lunar flyby to move into a low-energy transfer trajectory that will then enable it to attempt a soft landing. The lander has successfully checked off all of its orbital maneuvers and will remain in a low lunar orbit until the big day, according to ispace. For its landing attempt, Resilience will automatically fire its main propulsion system to gradually decelerate and adjust its altitude to begin descent from its current orbit toward the lunar surface. The Resilience lander is carrying a small rover, named Tenacious, to Mare Frigoris, located in the Moon's far northern regions. It's also packed with science instruments, mainly from commercial space ventures in Japan, designed to explore the lunar surface. This is ispace's second attempt to land on the Moon, although the first was unsuccessful. In April 2023, the Hakuto-R Mission 1 (M1) Lunar Lander plummeted towards the Moon and crashed on its surface. The company later revealed that, during the lander's descent toward the lunar surface, Hakuto-R estimated that it was very close to zero altitude when it was roughly 3 miles (5 kilometers) above the surface. As a result, the lander slowed itself down during its descent, eventually running out of fuel and free-falling onto the Moon. Hakuto-R M1 was carrying both commercial and government-owned payloads, including a tiny, two-wheeled transformable robot from the Japanese space agency. Members of the Japanese startup are optimistic about their second go at a Moon landing. 'We have leveraged the operational experience gained in Mission 1 and during this current voyage to the Moon, and we are confident in our preparations for success of the lunar landing,' Takeshi Hakamada, founder and CEO of ispace, said in a statement. The Moon has claimed a number of landers in the past few years as more commercial companies attempt to touch down on its rough surface. Texas-based startup Intuitive Machines crashed not one, but two landers, with both Nova-C and Athena ending up lying on their sides.
