U.P. has evolved from riot-prone state to model of safety, development: CM Yogi
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating an 11-storey barrack tower and a 30-bed hospital at the 26th PAC Battalion in Gorakhpur, Yogi said: 'Eight years ago, U.P. was mocked for its association with violence and crime. Today, no one can question our law and order. We have proven that transformation is possible with strong will and honest governance.'
He said that effective policing, transparent recruitment, and world-class infrastructure have redefined U.P's image from a state of unrest to a state of celebration.
'The U.P. Police were once plagued by poor infrastructure, scams, and court interventions that hindered recruitment. Youth were disheartened. But the situation has changed. In the last eight years, 2.16 lakh police personnel have been recruited transparently, including the world's largest recruitment drive of 60,244 personnel,' he added.
Recalling his early inspection of the then-decrepit Lucknow police line just two months after assuming office, he said he ordered major infrastructure upgrades across police stations, lines, and PAC battalions.
He also laid stress on the need for rigorous training for police personnel.
Meanwhile, expressing concern over the increasing number of road accident deaths in the state, ranging from 20,000 to 22,000 annually, he emphasised the need for awareness campaigns.
ADG, PAC, Dr Ramkrishna Swarnkar praised the CM for the construction of multi-storey barracks and healthcare facilities. He said that for the first time in U.P's history, all-women PAC battalions are being established in Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Budaun.
Janata Darshan: CM reiterates zero tolerance for encroachment
Reiterating his zero-tolerance policy against land encroachment, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday directed officials to free illegally occupied land belonging to the poor and ensure justice for the victims.
During the Janata Darshan held outside Mahant Digvijaynath Smriti Bhawan inside the Gorakhnath Temple premises on Thursday morning, the CM interacted with nearly 200 petitioners.
In a specific case of encroachment, he directed the administrative and police officials present to take immediate action and ensure the land is vacated. In another matter, involving a woman deprived of her share in ancestral property, he ordered that justice be delivered without delay.
As people sought financial assistance for urgent medical treatments, the chief minister assured them of government support and instructed officials to expedite the preparation of cost estimates and forward them to the departments concerned for approval.

‘UP saw dismantling of criminal network under Yogi in 8 years'
Lucknow: Highlighting the "immense changes" in law and order in the state since the BJP came to power in 2017, a govt spokesperson outlined the condition of Uttar Pradesh before 2017 and now. Following CM Yogi Adityanath's rise to power, the administration initiated a series of decisive actions to dismantle the criminal network that had taken root. Since the BJP came to power, there was a surge in police action against gangsters, seizure of illegal properties, and court trials were fast-tracked. There was a crackdown on unlawful religious conversions and the drug mafia. This, said the official, saw a sharp decline in criminal activity. "Under its zero-tolerance policy on crime, the state govt over the past eight years has seen over 240 dangerous criminals being killed in police encounters. During this time, the police carried out more than 15,000 encounters, arresting over 30,000 criminals. More than 9,000 criminals were injured in these operations," said the official. The govt cracked down on illegal properties of criminals, which broke the backbone of the mafia network and boosted public trust in the govt. As per govt data, illegal assets worth more than Rs 14,200 crore were seized or destroyed over the past eight years. Under 'Operation Conviction', about 1 lakh criminals have been convicted so far, which includes nearly 10,000 criminals sentenced to life imprisonment for crimes like rape, murder, and organised crime. Another 68 criminals have been sentenced to death. On average, courts are resolving 143 cases daily and punishing 187 criminals each day thanks to strong legal efforts, the official added. To crack down on the illegal drug trade, the govt has carried out large-scale operations, which include raids on fake liquor factories and inter-state mafia networks. Illegal liquor has been destroyed, and thousands of smugglers were arrested. An Anti-Narcotics Task Force was also set up, which has helped in the recovery of illegal drugs worth over Rs 2,737 crore and the registration of more than 30,000 cases. The govt went all out against illegal conversions, passing the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021, under which hundreds of people have been arrested, and several organised conversion rackets have been busted, claimed the official, citing the recent crackdown on Jalaluddin alias Changur, a key accused in an illegal religious conversion network. The state govt's policy, which the CM reiterates publicly at every occasion, is that a criminal will either be in jail in UP or out of the state.

PM Modi in Varanasi tomorrow, to launch 52 projects worth 2,183.45 cr
PM Narendra Modi will on Saturday visit his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 52 development projects worth Rs 2,183.45 crore, focusing on a boost to eastern UP development. The projects will be in key sectors such as road infrastructure, healthcare, education, sports, tourism and urban development. Initiatives include the construction and widening of roads, hospital upgrades, enhancement of educational institutions, improved drinking water and sanitation facilities, These will also boost development of sports infrastructure, establishment of a homeopathic college, construction of paved ghats for religious tourism, expansion of electricity and parking facilities, pond renovation and the setting up of libraries, animal hospitals and dog care centres, said a government statement. The PM will also release the 20th installment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, transferring Rs 20,500 crore to the bank accounts of over 9.70 crore eligible farmers across the country. A public meeting is scheduled at Banauli (Kalika Dham) village in the Sevapuri Assembly constituency, where both Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will address the gathering. Preparations are underway and the venue has been divided into 20 blocks, each overseen by dedicated officers, the statement said. This is the PM's 51st visit to Kashi. He is expected to arrive at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport around 10 am, from where he will proceed to the public meeting venue by helicopter. BJP leaders, including Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will receive him at the airport. Extensive decorations are being put in place across Varanasi, including more than 1,000 hoardings, BJP flags and welcome arches at key locations.

Milind Joshi, a key witness in the case, has come forward with serious allegations, claiming there was a deliberate attempt to politicise the investigation and fabricate evidence to arrest a senior RSS functionary. In a statement to Zee News, Joshi alleged that he was subjected to custodial torture and pressured to implicate senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders, including the current Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who at the time was only a Member of Parliament. "There was intense pressure to name Yogi Adityanath," Joshi claimed. "In 2008, he was not the prominent figure he is today, but there was still a clear effort to falsely link him and others to what was being framed as 'Hindu terrorism.' I was detained and tortured. The court dropped all charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Arms Act, and sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Malegaon blast took place on September 29, 2008, near Bhikku Chowk mosque in the Nashik district town of Malegaon. The explosion, caused by a bomb strapped to a motorcycle, occurred during the holy month of Ramzan and just days before Navratri. It killed six people and injured over 100 in the communally sensitive region. The investigation, initially handled by Maharashtra ATS, was transferred to the NIA in 2011. Over the course of the lengthy legal process, spanning nearly 17 years, more than 100,000 pages of documentation were presented. The trial saw 323 witnesses testify, though 34 of them turned hostile, significantly weakening the prosecution's case. The court, which concluded hearings in April and reserved its verdict on April 19, delivered the judgment in a packed courtroom. It also directed the government to pay Rs 2 lakh in compensation to the families of those killed and Rs 50,000 to each injured victim. Joshi's latest claims have sparked renewed debate about the integrity of the investigation and the possibility of political interference during the early stages of the case. Legal experts and political observers are now calling for a thorough examination of the witness's allegations.
