Police finally arrest man for throwing sex toy that struck 12-year-old girl at WNBA game

The man accused of hurling a sex toy toward the court during a New York Liberty game - striking a 12-year-old girl - has finally been arrested, police confirmed. Officials say the suspect has been identified as Charles Burgess, 32, of Dayton, Ohio. He was taken into custody by New York Police Department officers on Wednesday, facing two counts of assault in connection with the bizarre incident. According to court and police records, it remains unclear whether Burgess has been formally booked or if he has retained legal counsel. At the start of the month, NYPD launched a search for Burgess, over a sex toy-throwing incident that occurred during the Liberty's game against the Dallas Wings. Officials confirmed that they were seeking out a man - pictured wearing a 'Beavis and Butthead' t-shirt - who is believed to have taken part in the disturbing trend. According to Crime Stoppers, the man was seen throwing a green sex toy from the stands, during a New York Liberty game on Tuesday, which struck a 12-year-old girl. Police have now revealed that the suspect fled the scene on foot and remained on the run until Wednesday. According to the New York Post, one fan said: 'The object was thrown from someone much higher up but definitely in the same section. 'When it landed, the girl started screaming/freaking out (understandably) for like 30 [seconds] and got the attention of most people within the surrounding rows'. Security footage from the Barclays Center showed the man - who has tattoos up and down his arms - wearing a red and black hat as he walked through the arena. Unlike in other incidents that have plagued the league, the sex toy did not make it onto the court and officials were reportedly able to dispose of the item swiftly. Meanwhile, earlier this month, two individuals - including an 18-year-old - were arrested over similar indecent acts in the last week. Kaden Lopez, 18, was booked into jail on suspicion of disorderly conduct, assault and public display of explicit sexual material following the game between the Mercury and Sun, Fox 10 Phoenix has reported. While the toy did not reach the court, it allegedly hit an adult male victim who was attending the game with his nine-year-old niece, according to a court document. The moment of Lopez throwing the object, described as a 'green dildo', was captured on video, and the teen was tackled by an arena volunteer before being detained by police. Lopez allegedly apologized for the act, saying it was 'stupid prank that was trending on social media.' It is also alleged in court documents that he bought the toy on Monday - just one day before the game. Days prior to that, Delbert Carver, 23, was arrested for allegedly throwing sex toys onto the floor of two WNBA games last week

Woke Canadian police charge homeowner with aggravated assault for attacking burglar who broke into his home at 3am

A Canadian homeowner is facing assault charges for attacking an armed burglar he found breaking into his apartment in the middle of the night. An unidentified 44-year-old resident of Lindsay, Ontario, awoke to find a 41-year-old man inside in his home on Kent Street Monday. He confronted and fought the intruder, who suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital in Toronto. The Kawartha Lakes Police Service was called about 3:20am and responded to the scene, arresting the homeowner after an investigation. The owner was charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The unidentified intruder was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, breaking and entering, mischief under $5,000, and violating his probation. The suspected burglar, who was already wanted by police on unrelated charges, will be taken into custody when he is well enough to leave hospital. The charges against the homeowner sparked widespread outrage, with Ontario Premier Doug Ford calling the system 'broken.' 'This criminal that's wanted by the police breaks into this guy's house, this guy gives him a beating, and this guy gets charged. Something is broken,' he said at a press conference on Wednesday. 'I know if someone breaks into my house or someone else's, you're gonna fight for your life. You're going to use whatever force you can to protect your family. I know everyone would.' Kawartha Lakes Police Chief Kirk Robertson issued a statement defending the decision amid the backlash. '[T]he negative commentary about the officers and their actions is unjust and inaccurate,' he said. Robertson explained that the law allowed people to use reasonable force to protect themselves and their property if they believed they were facing a threat. 'Under Canadian law, individuals have the right to defend themselves and their property,' he said. 'However, it is important to understand that these rights are not unlimited in Canada. The law requires that any defensive action be proportionate to the threat faced. 'This means that while homeowners do have the right to protect themselves and their property, the use of force must be reasonable given the circumstances.' Robertson said investigators were able to examine all the information and evidence that was available before pursuing any charges, but police were not revealing most of it to protect the investigation.

Moment thug punches innocent passenger, 60, in the face as he tries to rob his bag at railway station

A huge thug violently punched a 60-year-old man in the face in an attempt to rob him at a railway station. Lance Hughes, who was on probation, followed the victim up the stairs towards the ticket machine at Chester Road Railway Station in Birmingham in August last year. Hughes attempted to engage with the man before trying to grab a bag from his shoulder, a court heard. He then dragged the elderly victim towards the stairs and tried to wrestle the bag from his grasp. Disturbing CCTV footage shows Hughes holding the man in a headlock and then brutally punching him in the face while two women watched in horror. The brave victim managed to keep hold of his belongings and Hughes fled the station empty-handed. Hughes failed to disguise himself from CCTV cameras by placing his coat over his head and was later identified by officers. British Transport Police discovered he had only recently been released from prison and was under probation. The brave victim managed to keep hold of his belongings and Hughes fled the station empty-handed Officers waited outside the probation office for him to come out after his appointment and he was caught despite trying to flee on foot. The force said Hughes showed no remorse for his actions nor offered any apology or explanation during his police interview. Hughes pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and was jailed for four years and four months on August 8. He was also ordered to pay a court surcharge of £228 at Birmingham Crown Court. BTP Detective Constable Genna Chambers said: 'In attempting to rob someone in full view of CCTV cameras while on probation, Hughes acted with a shocking degree of audacity and stupidity, so I'm extremely pleased with the result in this case. 'In the end, all Hughes benefitted from his attempt is an extended stay in prison. 'I hope that it provides him ample opportunity to think on his actions, and serves as a warning to anyone who thinks about robbing others on the railway network.'
