Retired Major League Baseball player Darin Ruf sued the Cincinnati Reds, just shy of two years ago when he was hurt in a game at Great American Ball Park. Ruf alleges the injury, which resulted when he was trying to catch a foul ball, ruined his professional baseball career.
The suit alleges the Reds were negligent in having an exposed metal tarp roller on the field. Ruf is suing for damages and believes players never should have to face unforeseen dangers on the field.
Darin Ruf got injured while pouncing on a foul ball
Two years back during a match, Darin Ruf was chasing after a foul ball. Unfortunately, he scraped the bottom of the rolled-up tarp covering alongside the field.
Video showed blood on the pant leg of Ruf as he hobbled off the field.
He was subsequently put on the 60-day injured list after suffering a deep laceration on his knee. He later also confirmed that he had a fractured kneecap. The accident was the end of Ruf's stint in Major League Baseball. He had only played 11 games with the Brewers that year when the accident happened.

The suit calls for the Reds and their grounds staff to be held for "reckless" conduct, alleging they did not abide by the fundamental rules of safety.
This didn't have to occur.
"I don't want it to have occurred,"
Ruf commented in a statement.
"Players shouldn't have to worry about hidden hazards like that on a Major League field."
Ruf's lawyer, Tad Thomas, also had something to say, referring to the roller as a
"simplistic safety failure."
Thomas reasoned that every MLB team should be smarter than to leave a tough, hazardous object that players will be running on during a game.
Darin Ruf, currently 38, played five years with the Philadelphia Phillies before progressing to the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets. Although not a star, he was famous for his power-hitting skills. The injury occurred while playing for the Milwaukee Brewers briefly, truncating his 2023 season.
The lawsuit now wants total payment for medical bills, career loss, and other harm resulting from the injury. Up to now, the Cincinnati Reds have not given a public statement regarding the issue.

Team India's Squad For Asia Cup 2025: R Ashwin Questions Shreyas Iyer And Yashasvi Jaiswal's Shock Omission

India's squad announcement for the Asia Cup 2025 has triggered intense debate, with veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin openly expressing mixed emotions. While Ashwin welcomed Shubman Gill's return to the T20I setup and his elevation as vice-captain, he strongly criticized the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, both of whom have been in exceptional form. Gill Returns as Vice-Captain, but Questions Arise The BCCI selection committee surprised many by reinstating Gill to the squad after more than a year, even naming him as Suryakumar Yadav's deputy. Gill's leadership credentials and consistency with the bat for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 were key factors behind his recall. Ashwin acknowledged Gill's merits, stating that 'the selection of Shubman Gill is okay… he has scored a lot of runs and has the credentials to be vice-captain.' However, the 37-year-old off-spinner stressed that India's think tank overlooked two equally deserving batters in Iyer and Jaiswal, both of whom had remarkable IPL campaigns. Shreyas Iyer's Case: A Proven Match-Winner Ignored Ashwin's sharpest criticism came when discussing Shreyas Iyer's omission. The stylish middle-order batter scored 604 runs in 17 matches for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, guiding the franchise to their first final since 2014. His consistency, ability to tackle short-pitched bowling, and leadership qualities have earned him praise across the cricketing fraternity. 'What has Shreyas done wrong?' Ashwin questioned on his YouTube channel. 'He won games for KKR, then took Punjab to the final. He's hitting Kagiso Rabada and Jasprit Bumrah with ease. The improvement in his game is remarkable. To leave him out is extremely unfair.' Ashwin's comments highlight the broader debate about selection policies—whether current form, past credentials, or future planning should dictate India's squad composition. Yashasvi Jaiswal's Snub: A Young Star at the Crossroads Perhaps the most surprising exclusion was Yashasvi Jaiswal, who amassed 559 runs in 14 matches for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 at an explosive strike rate of 165. Known for his fearless stroke play, Jaiswal has been a rising star across formats for India. Ashwin sympathized with the youngster, suggesting that the snub may force Jaiswal to reconsider his role in T20 cricket. 'He might have to shift to the middle order or fight for Abhishek Sharma's slot. It's very tough because he's already averaging 36 and striking at 165. Players like him don't come often,' Ashwin remarked. The veteran also warned that such omissions may push young cricketers towards conservative batting. 'If I'm Jaiswal or Shreyas, next time I won't take risks for the team. I'll play for myself just to save my place. That's unfortunate for Indian cricket,' he said. Selection Debate Intensifies Ahead of Asia Cup 2025 The exclusion of Iyer and Jaiswal despite their blistering IPL seasons underscores the thankless nature of team selection, as Ashwin put it. 'When you have Jaiswal as your third opener and still remove someone from a World Cup-winning squad to fit Gill in, it's just not fair,' he insisted. The discussion reflects a larger trend in Indian cricket, where balancing youthful aggression with experienced stability has become a recurring challenge. With the Asia Cup 2025 serving as a crucial build-up to the T20 World Cup 2026, the choices made now could have long-term consequences.

'What message are you giving?' BCCI slammed over Harshit Rana's selection in Asia Cup 2025 squad

Harshit Rana Former India batter Kris Srikkanth pointed finger on the selection of pacer Harshit Rana for the Asia Cup 2025, highlighting his below-par performance with the ball in IPL 2025. He argued that Harshit's inclusion was undeserved, particularly at the cost of Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, who won the Purple Cap in IPL 2025. However, India captain Suryakumar Yadav, during the squad announcement press conference, supported the decision, stating that Harshit has impressed in his recent outings for India. 'I think he is doing really well in the IPL and in the game which he has played for India. I remember that concussion replacement game in Pune. I also remeber he got a Man of the Match in the last T20I he played for India. So, we back his skill. We know he has got that skill to deliver for India in this format,' Suryakumar said. Kris Srikkanth expressed his disappointment over Harshit Rana's inclusion in the squad However, Srikkanth expressed his disappointment over the selectors' decision to include Harshit. 'Where did Harshit Rana come from? He was so poor in the IPL. He is being managed. He had an economy rate of 10 in the IPL. What message are you giving to Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj? Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel 'Cheeky Cheeka'. Srikkanth also reflected on the team's balance, stating that a player like Washington Sundar should have been included in place of Shivam Dube. 'They will make Tilak Varma the sixth bowler. Is Abhishek Sharma going to be your sixth bowler or Shivam Dube? He hardly bowled in the IPL. This is an adjustment selection. If you needed someone who can bat and bowl at No. 8, Washington Sundar would have been ideal. Shivam Dube at No. 8 does not make any sense,' he added. India squad for Asia Cup 2025 Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah.
