Malaysia Mulls Anti-Scalping Law To Curb Soaring Reselling Prices
The government is considering introducing legislation to curb concert ticket scalping, as inflated resale prices for high-demand shows continue to frustrate fans and dent Malaysia's live entertainment market. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said her ministry will hold discussions with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) and relevant stakeholders to address the growing problem, which has been most apparent at international concerts such as K-pop star G-Dragon's, where scalpers have resold tickets at hefty mark-ups. Additionally, scalpers were found on social media selling tickets to the concert of My Chemical Romance in Kuala Lumpur, scheduled for April 30 next year, at exorbitant prices, including one offering a Zone C category ticket worth RM499 for RM6,000. 'KPDN is currently reviewing the matter, including the possibility of introducing a Bill to address it. The Communications Ministry has also engaged with event organisers and ticketing companies to find the most suitable solution,' Teo said. She shared that she has had a meeting with KPDN and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission on Aug 1 to gather input from agencies tasked with monitoring and enforcing ticket sales. 'The discussions also reviewed international best practices in countries with dedicated anti-scalping laws,' she said.

Taiwan ballet dancers in Kota Kinabalu
Published on: Friday, August 08, 2025 Published on: Fri, Aug 08, 2025 Text Size: Ballet dancers during training. A heart-warming and inspiring cultural exchange unfolded this week as four talented young ballet dancers and two adult ballerinas from Taiwan visited Charlotte Dance Studio in Kota Kinabalu for a meaningful international collaboration. Led by two experienced instructors from Taiwan, the young dancers immersed themselves in a series of ballet training sessions conducted by Charlotte Chan, the founder of Charlotte Dance Studio. Advertisement The classes focused on open syllabus technique, musicality, and expressive artistry, fostering a valuable space for dancers to learn from one another while sharing the common language of dance. But the exchange didn't stop at ballet. Recognising the importance of cross-disciplinary training, the Taiwanese group also specially requested to participate in Reformer Pilates classes at Soul Pilates. The dancers experienced firsthand how Pilates training on the reformer enhances core strength, flexibility, alignment, and injury prevention — all essential for long-term performance longevity and physical wellness in dance. Advertisement 'I'm truly grateful for this collaboration. Having our Taiwanese guests here reminds us how dance connects people across borders,' said Ms. Charlotte. The exchange programme not only encouraged technical growth but also offered a rich cultural dialogue. Students got the chance to make new friendships, experience a different learning environment, and gain fresh perspectives in their training. Such international initiatives open doors for young dancers to develop confidence, adaptability, and global awareness — qualities that extend far beyond the studio. Charlotte Dance Studio looks forward to more enriching partnerships like this in the future, where passion, connection, and cultural appreciation come together in the most graceful way — through the art of dance. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
