Trailer driver killed, three injured in four-vehicle crash on North-South Expressway near Slim River
IPOH, May 20 — A trailer driver was killed and three others injured in a collision involving three lorries and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at KM 366 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound near Slim River last night.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 10.36 pm, after which firefighters from the Slim River and Bidor stations were dispatched to the scene.
'Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a 40-year-old male victim trapped in the cab of the trailer. He was confirmed dead at the scene,' he said in a statement this morning.
He said that two other victims, a lorry driver and his attendant, both 28, who were transporting pipes, sustained minor injuries.
He added that the 28-year-old driver of a five-tonne lorry carrying motorcycles suffered a leg injury, while the 37-year-old driver and 32-year-old passenger of the Toyota Unser MPV escaped unhurt.
Sabarodzi said the operation was completed at 1.09 am.
Meanwhile, PLUS, in a statement on its Facebook page last night, said the accident caused a traffic congestion of six kilometres southbound and four kilometres northbound. All lanes had to be temporarily closed to allow the involved vehicles to be cleared.
All lanes were reopened to traffic at 3.47 am. — Bernama

Tangkak pensioner transfers RM108,520 to scammers posing as police and MCMC officers
TANGKAK, June 2 — A 58-year-old female pensioner lost RM108,520 to a scam syndicate. Tangkak police chief Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the woman claimed it all started on May 9 when she was contacted by two men, one of them claiming to be an officer from the Communications and Multimedia Commission and the other, who claimed to be a police officer. He said the woman was told that she was wanted in a fraud case involving investments and non-existent loans, and to transfer the money in her account to a given bank account to facilitate investigations of the case. 'The woman did as was told and transferred her money, in 16 transactions, to two given bank accounts, suspected to be ' mule accounts,'' he said in a statement today. Roslan said the woman lodged a police report yesterday, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. He also advised the public who are victims of fraud to immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 as an initial action to block the outflow of money from the suspect's account. — Bernama

According to the Daily Mail UK, Jordan Johnson-Doyle was on a solo tour of Southeast Asia and had been backpacking in the region. He was believed to have gone to Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, for a pub quiz, based on a photo he sent to his mother, Leanne Burnett. 'I know what he's like and he knows how worried everyone gets at home. That is why he checks in all the time.' Burnett said even if his phone or laptop had been stolen, her son knows her number and would have found a way to call. 'He would go to the nearest hotel to use the phone, or go to an internet café. He'd find a way to get hold of us,' she said, according to the report in the UK daily. She added that a location check using the Find My iPhone app showed his phone last pinged at a residential building near the bar. The signal stopped three days later on May 30 when the battery is believed to have died. Jordan, a software engineer, had arrived in Malaysia on May 17 after travelling from Vietnam. He works remotely while backpacking across the region, his mother said. It is unclear where he was staying in Kuala Lumpur. A missing person report has been filed with Merseyside police, the British consulate, and Malaysian police. Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain told FMT he will ask Kuala Lumpur police to check for any such reports and promised to investigate further. FMT has also reached out to the British high commission for comment.
