Vizag to host Fusion AI Summit on July 25–26
State IT minister Nara Lokesh and MSME minister Kondapalli Srinivasa will attend the event, while Vishal Dhupar (managing director, South Asia, NVIDIA) will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session.
The event will take place at the VMRDA children's arena, Siripuram, under the theme "turning AI potential into action." Co-hosted by STPI, the summit will showcase the unique strengths of the state — particularly
Vizag
— as a prime destination for developing a robust AI ecosystem.
Sreedhar Kosaraju, chairman of the APDTI Network and convener of the APDTI Leadership Forum, said that the Fusion AI Summit is the first of its kind in the region and will cover eight major segments of AI: agentic AI, generative AI, physical AI, AI on cloud, edge AI, cross-sectoral AI, decentralised AI, and hyperautomation with AI.

The objectives of the event include promoting the AI ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh, strategising to position the state among the top three AI hubs in India by 2030. This is expected to help develop a roadmap for deep tech and AI skilling in AP/Vizag, attract talent and investment, foste B2B networking opportunities, and enable engagement with CXOs and senior executives from leading technology firms.
"The summit will see participation from CXOs, business leaders, academia, and startups from across the state. As part of the summit, outstanding AI startups from Andhra Pradesh will be recognised with cash prizes, and eligible ventures may have the opportunity to secure funding from venture capitalists and angel investors associated with the event," added Sreedhar.

Tesla on Monday officially launched its first charging station in India at Mumbai's upscale One BKC in Bandra-Kurla Complex — a significant move that signals the electric automaker's formal entry into the Indian market. The newly operational facility includes four V4 Supercharger stalls (DC fast chargers) and four destination charging stalls (AC chargers). The Superchargers, capable of delivering up to 250 kW, are priced at ₹24 per kWh, while the destination chargers provide 11 kW at ₹14 per kWh. According to Tesla, the Model Y, its debut offering in India, can achieve a range of up to 267 km with just 15 minutes of 'supercharging'. Users can access, monitor, and pay for charging via the Tesla app, which also provides real-time stall availability and charge status notifications. Tesla opens first Indian store in Mumbai The launch follows closely on the heels of Tesla opening its first Indian Experience Centre in Mumbai on July 15. At the facility, the company unveiled the Model Y SUV, which will be sold in two rear-wheel drive variants: a standard model priced at ₹59.89 lakh and a long-range version at ₹67.89 lakh. Both versions are being imported as completely built units (CBUs) from Tesla's Gigafactory in Shanghai. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the third and fourth quarters of 2025. The US automaker plans to operationalise three more charging locations across Mumbai — in Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai — by the end of the September quarter. The expansion is part of a broader strategy to build out EV infrastructure in a market where charging availability remains a critical constraint. Tesla India growth plans While the company's physical presence in India is expanding, its long-term manufacturing strategy remains unclear. Tesla has been in discussions with the Indian government over tax concessions and production incentives, but a definitive commitment to local manufacturing has not been made. In June, ahead of the store opening, Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy stated Tesla is currently not inclined to set up manufacturing in India. Import duties continue to be a significant hurdle. India levies up to 70 per cent tax on imported EVs, which inflates the price of Tesla vehicles compared to other markets. For reference, the Model Y starts at $44,990 (approximately ₹37 lakh) in the United States. Nevertheless, Tesla's recent moves indicate a calibrated attempt to tap into India's growing EV ecosystem, driven by increased government focus on green mobility and rising consumer awareness. Tesla sees stiff competition from BYD Globally, the EV major is facing increased pressure, particularly from Chinese competitor BYD, which sold 1.76 million EVs in 2024, just short of Tesla's 1.79 million. India is being seen as a potential growth lever as Tesla looks to diversify amid slowing sales in the US and China. A second Tesla 'Experience Centre' is expected to open in New Delhi later this month.

Tankers deliver barrels of Russian crude to India despite US, EU pressure
India's appetite for discounted Russian crude, and its position as the single largest buyer of Moscow's seaborne oil, has long been a pain point for the US and Western allies Bloomberg By Weilun Soon and Rakesh Sharma At least four tankers discharged millions of barrels of Russian crude at Indian refineries at the weekend, a sign the closely scrutinised deliveries are continuing as normal, even as the US ramps up pressure on the South Asian country to stop purchases. Oil traders and shipping companies have been waiting for direction from New Delhi on whether supplies from Moscow will be allowed to continue after US President Donald Trump last week threatened punitive action to curb trade with Russia. Over the weekend, a senior aide accused India of effectively funding President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine. Washington's tough demands, coming after a surprise 25 per cent tariff on Indian exports to the US, threw private and state-owned refineries' purchase plans into disarray. Still, India hasn't asked refiners to stop Russian crude imports, according to people familiar with the matter. Three Aframaxes — the Achilles, Elyte and Horae — unloaded nearly 2.2 million barrels of Urals crude, a key Russian grade, to private processors Nayara Energy Ltd and Reliance Industries Ltd over the weekend after a slight delay, ship-tracking data show. The Mikati, also an Aframax, delivered more than 720,000 barrels of Russia's Varandey crude on a two-stop journey that included deliveries to refineries in Kochi and Mangalore. State-run Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd owns the Kochi refinery, while Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. is majority owned by state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp Ltd. More tankers are poised to discharge another 2.2 million barrels of Urals in the coming hours, with Minion and Destan now at Sikka, a terminal operated by Reliance. Aldebaran is due to unload across the gulf at Mundra. While Bloomberg News couldn't immediately determine the buyer, the Mundra port serves both government-run Indian Oil Corp Ltd. and HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd, partially owned by state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd. Reliance, the largest buyer of Russian Urals, has a long-term deal with Russian producer Rosneft PJSC that would ensure it can get those barrels over several years. India's appetite for discounted Russian crude, and its position as the single largest buyer of Moscow's seaborne oil, has long been a pain point for the US and Western allies. Scrutiny has increased in recent weeks, even before Trump's latest comments. Nayara was sanctioned by the European Union on July 18 for its links to Russia, prompting the processor to cut run rates and pushing trade partners to seek supplies elsewhere.
