Rishabh Pant's Injury Update: Viral Video Shows Star Batter On Crutches After Being Ruled Out Of Oval Test

Indian cricket fans were dealt a major blow as star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was seen walking on crutches in London, confirming fears of a serious injury that has ruled him out of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval. A video of Pant—visibly limping but smiling—interacting with people outside the team hotel has gone viral on social media, igniting concern and support from fans across the globe. — RP17 Gang™ (@RP17Gang) July 31, 2025 The left-hander sustained a fractured metatarsal on his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes during the fourth Test in Manchester. Although he bravely returned to the crease and scored a gritty 53 on Day 2, he was visibly in discomfort and could not resume wicketkeeping duties, with Dhruv Jurel taking over behind the stumps. BCCI Confirms Pant's Injury; Jagadeesan Named as Replacement The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed Pant's unavailability for the Oval Test, officially replacing him with Narayanan Jagadeesan. Despite the setback, Pant's contributions in the series have been monumental—he has amassed 479 runs in seven innings at an average of 68.42, including twin centuries at Headingley that set the tone for India's competitive edge in the series. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir praised Pant's grit, saying, 'You've inspired the next generation with your resilience. That fifty at Manchester will be remembered for years.' Impact on India's Playing XI for Fifth Test at The Oval India, already missing Pant's explosive presence, made four changes for the fifth Test under overcast skies and a green wicket at The Oval. With Shubman Gill leading the side, the XI features Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dhruv Jurel, alongside a pace-heavy attack led by Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Akash Deep. The Oval has been a happy hunting ground for India, having won the last encounter at this venue. However, Pant's absence will test India's middle-order depth and wicketkeeping stability. DPL 2025 Suffers a Star Power Setback: Pant Out, Vansh Bedi Named Captain Pant's injury doesn't just affect India's Test campaign—it has cast a long shadow over the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025, where he was slated to lead Purani Dilli 6. The team, which retained him for INR 21 lakh, will now be without its marquee player and leader. In his absence, youngster Vansh Bedi has been appointed captain, taking charge of a promising but relatively inexperienced squad. Bedi, who played a pivotal role in the team's semifinal run last year, will now shoulder leadership responsibilities as they aim for the title. Team owner Akash Nangia expressed confidence in the new skipper, saying, 'Vansh is a natural leader with sharp instincts. He's ready for this moment.' DPL 2025 Schedule: Eyes on August 5 Clash The second edition of the DPL kicks off on August 2, with Purani Dilli 6 beginning their campaign on August 5 against Outer Dilli Warriors. The tournament finale is scheduled for August 31, with playoffs on August 29 and 30. The DPL organizing committee is hopeful that Pant can make a ceremonial appearance during the later stages of the tournament if his recovery progresses well.

Lancashire Apologizes For Removal Of Fan Who Wore Pakistan Jersey In IND-ENG Test

Last Updated: Lancashire cricket club apologized for removing Farooq Nazar during the India-England Test at Old Trafford. Nazar was asked to cover his Pakistan jersey to prevent tensions. The Lancashire cricket club, which owns and runs the Old Trafford Cricket Ground, has apologized for 'any upset and offence caused" over the removal of a fan during the final day of the India-England Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The fan, Farooq Nazar, had shared a video on social media depicting how he was asked to leave by security officials for refusing to cover his t-shirt — a replica of an old Pakistan ODI jersey. Lancashire, though, put some of the blame on Nazar. The club said in its statement that Nazar was initially asked to cover his t-shirt and was only escorted by the police 'due to unacceptable behaviour directed towards the stewarding team". It also said that asking Nazar to leave was less about the Pakistan shirt but more about preventing enmity and any kind of violence on the ground. 'Firstly, we wish to make it clear that there was no intention to remove the individual simply for wearing a Pakistan cricket shirt," the club said in a statement. 'The approach taken was informed by an incident on Saturday, during which a group of supporters waved a Pakistan national flag, leading to tensions with nearby Indian fans. In that case, our stewards were able to de-escalate the situation by respectfully asking the individuals to put the flag away, which they did without hesitation. 'In light of this context, our team adopted a precautionary, safety-first approach on Sunday. A stand supervisor politely asked the individual to cover his shirt in the interest of his own safety and to avoid any potential escalation. Despite several courteous requests from the supervisor and the response team, the individual repeatedly declined to comply." The club also said it'll 'review its procedures for handling similar situations in the future". The incident was naturally seen in the broader light of sour relations between India and England. Lancashire is trying to attract Indian investment in its county, and has been successful in it with the Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG group now holding a 70 percent stake in the Manchester Originals in the Hundred. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Sesko Battle: Manchester United, Newcastle In Race To Sign RB Leipzig Striker

Last Updated: The 22-year-old has been touted as hot property in a market with a dearth of natural goal scorers, and United would look to snap up the Leipzig star. Premier League giants Manchester United look to address their striker woes by roping in RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, but will have to hold off stiff competition from fellow English side Newcastle United for the signature of the Slovenian. The 22-year-old has been touted as hot property in a market with a dearth of natural goal scorers, and United would look to snap up the Leipzig star in a bid to improve on their abysmal showings last season. In the latest development in the pursuit, United could sweeten the pot by adding current striker Rasmus Hojlund as part of the deal to make the passage for Sesko's switch much more convenient. United are believed to have made the striker their top priority in the transfer window, while English forward Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa also remains an option. Sesko netted 13 times and set up five assists in 33 outings for Leipzig in the bygone season of the Bundesliga to help his side finish seventh in the German top-flight with 51 points to their name from 34 games. United, who finished a lowly 15th in the Premier League in what was a forgettable season under Ruben Amorim, who took over the team midway through the campaign following the departure of former coach Erik Ten Hag, would look to return to winning ways as they endure a period of transition like never before. However, the Red Devils will have to fend off moves from Newcastle, who have also expressed interest in the services of the young forward amid concerns over the future of star player Alexander Isak, who looks to be forcing a move out of the Tyne-side club. The Swedish superstar looks to be angling for a move to Liverpool, who have splashed cash around in the ongoing transfer window shelling out big money for the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman. United have already bolstered their attacking line with the acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford as they look to navigate a pathway to restore the club back o its former glory. view comments First Published: August 01, 2025, 10:55 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
