Brora Rangers boss Steven Mackay reacts to Premier Sports Cup draw
Brora Rangers boss Steven Mackay says their Premier Sports Cup draw brings back some great memories.
The Breedon Highland League champions have been drawn in Group H alongside Premiership outfits Kilmarnock and Livingston and League One sides Kelty Hearts and East Fife.
Brora have played all of those clubs before. In season 2017-18 they defeated East Fife 1-0 in the Scottish Cup at New Bayview to set up a last-16 tie against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, which they lost 4-0.
In 2021 the Cattachs took on Kelty in the pyramid play-offs (losing 6-1 on aggregate) and last November they impressed in a 2-0 Scottish Cup third round defeat to Livingston.
The League Cup fixture schedule has still to be finalised but matches will be played between July 12 and 27.
Reacting to the draw, manager Mackay said: 'This draw brings back a lot of memories, some good and some not so good.
'The Scottish Cup run we had where we beat East Fife and then played Kilmarnock in the last 16 was a great experience.
'We played Kelty in the pyramid play-off, which wasn't such a good experience and then last year we played Livingston and put on a really good show I thought.
'It can be nice to face teams you haven't faced before, but equally it's also good to play teams we've got a bit of history with and we've got history will all these clubs.
'We're looking forward to it and looking forward to challenging ourselves against some top opposition.
'Kilmarnock and Livingston are both Premiership clubs and either of them coming to Dudgeon Park would be a great occasion for the club and the area.
'All these games are an opportunity for us to showcase what we can do.
'It's something for the players to look forward to and it will be good preparation for us for the start of the Highland League season.'
The other Highland League side in the League Cup, Brechin City, have been drawn in Group A alongside Falkirk (Premiership), Queen's Park (Championship), Cove Rangers (League One) and Spartans (League Two).

Boss Jimmy Thelin insists plans are in place to ensure Aberdeen deliver a bright future by building on the Scottish Cup glory. The Dons ended a 35-year Scottish Cup drought when lifting the trophy at Hampden by overcoming Celtic in the final. Thelin has wasted no time in strengthening his Scottish Cup-winning squad – with two signings already confirmed. Australians Nicolas Milanovic and Nick Suman will both join the Dons in the summer, having agreed pre-contracts. Recently-crowned A-League player of the year Milanovic was snapped up for a fee of around £400,000 from Western Sydney Wanderers. Winger Milanovic, 23, will move to Pittodrie on a three-year deal, with the Dons holding the option to extend that to a fourth year. Milanovic was recently on international duty with the Australia squad at a training camp in Abu Dhabi, having received a debut senior call-up. Keeper Suman, 25, will join the Dons upon the expiry of his current deal with Cove Rangers later this month. Aberdeen beat off interest from Hibs, Dundee United and Motherwell to land the former Australia under-23 international. Thelin will use the summer transfer window to build a squad capable of balancing European league action and domestic commitments. Aberdeen will enter the Europa League play-off stage next season. Even if the Reds lose the play-off, they have the safety net of dropping down into the Conference League. Chairman Dave Cormack has vowed to back Thelin during the summer window. Talks with multiple transfer targets are at an advanced stage. Thelin said: 'There's a lot happening now which is good for the future. 'There are a lot of good foundations here which make it possible for Aberdeen to be the big club in Scottish football that we are. 'There are more steps being taken.' As Thelin and his recruitment team work on landing new signings, there have also been departures from Pittodrie. Aberdeen recently confirmed the exit of 12 players. Leaving the club were, Jack MacKenzie, who has joined Plymouth Argyle, and Celtic-bound keeper Ross Doohan. Republic of Ireland international midfielder Jamie McGrath has signed a pre-contract with Hibernian. Loan players Kevin Nisbet (Millwall), Oday Dabbagh (Charleroi), Jeppe Okkels (Preston NE) and Alfie Dorrington (Tottenham Hotspur) all return to their parent clubs. Third-choice keeper Tom Ritchie has also left, as have youth team players Fraser Mackie, Blair McKenzie, Victor Enem and Evan Towler. Thelin is now enjoying a well-earned break after securing Aberdeen's first silverware since 2014. He is delighted with the way the squad embraced his footballing philosophy during a memorable first season. Thelin said: 'The players adapted more and more to what we want to achieve and how we work. That was shown in their intensity and how they pushed themselves more and more. 'Always, when you have a new staff, things change, and it takes time, but you could see the players have their team goals. 'There are those progressions.' Thelin is set to enter his third transfer window as Aberdeen manager. His bid to sign players will be boosted by the lure of European league football. The draw for the Europa League play-off will be made on August 4 with the ties played on August 21 and 28. Thelin was initially confirmed as Aberdeen manager on April 16 last year having agreed to sign on at the Dons from Elfsborg. However, he remained at the Allsvenskan side until the Swedish mid-season break, officially starting at Pittodrie in early June. Thelin said: 'It has been a long season, but I have to say it has gone very quickly. 'I started in Elfsborg and I did the pre-season there, then six months before coming to Aberdeen. 'So for a year-and-a-half I have been working through a lot of windows, but it has all happened so quickly it feels like yesterday. 'I have to say I am in a really good position with the opportunity I've had coming here.'

Duncan Shearer: Number 9 like Bojan Miovski - but not Miovski - top of the transfer wish-list for Aberdeen this summer
A striker must be top of the list of priorities for Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin this summer. The Dons confirmed their list of departures last week – and none of the names came as a surprise. Kevin Nisbet and Oday Dabbagh were the two strikers on the list of players leaving Pittodrie, and as well as Nisbet did for the club, I'll be surprised if we see him back. Millwall boss Alex Neil will, quite rightly, want to have a look at the Scotland international for himself, and it's no secret Nisbet will be on a very good wage in the English Championship. A package to bring the player back to Pittodrie would eat up a significant portion of the club's summer transfer kitty. Sadly, the same would be said for any Aberdeen fans dreaming of Bojan Miovski making a shock return to Pittodrie this summer… Reports from Spain claim Girona are looking to move the North Macedonia international on, but as much as I'd love to see Miovski leading the lead for Aberdeen again, I think the chances are slim. If Girona are willing to send him on loan then maybe, but even then it seems unlikely for me – and I just don't see the Dons paying the substantial fee it would take to bring him back permanently. It's a Miovski-type figure they should be looking for, though. We knew nothing of him when he arrived in Scottish football from MTK Budapest, but it became apparent very quickly he was a class act. Aberdeen's scouting network has expanded significantly in the Dave Cormack era and the net is cast much wider these days. If the Dons can pull another Mivoski out of the hat then their team will carry a serious attacking threat next season. There will be other positions in need of strengthening, such as the left-back position now that Jack MacKenzie has signed for Plymouth Argyle. But keeping the Aberdeen squad together is just as important as the recruitment. Shayden Morris' breakthrough season for the club saw him named player of the year at Pittodrie. Five goals and 13 assists are a fine return for a wide player, but with Morris now moving into the final year of his contract, extending his stay is crucial. If he maintains the progress he has made then I can see a big move happening for him in the future. His pace alone is such an asset. But the club needs to protect its investment in the former Fleetwood Town winger. Leighton Clarkson's strong end to the season will also have attracted interest – and you don't come through the Liverpool academy unless you have something about you. Mats Knoester has also been outstanding since he joined the club in the winter window. The Dutchman was a big reason for the club's recovery from a mid-season slump and was terrific alongside Jack Milne and Alfie Dorrington in the Scottish Cup final win against Celtic. I should probably add the manager to that list, too. When you beat one of the big boys – and they don't come bigger in Scottish football than Celtic right now – people tend to take notice. When you beat them for silverware, you're effectively putting a target on your back. Jimmy Thelin has done just that by guiding Aberdeen to cup glory. Clubs in England think nothing of taking a punt on a manager who has enjoyed a modicum of success, and Thelin's name will be on the file of potential new managers for clubs in the months ahead. He strikes me as a guy who is committed to the project he has taken on at Aberdeen, but we won't know for sure until a club tries to tempt him and test his club's resolve. I'm pleased to hear Don Cowie will be staying on to lead Ross County's bid to win promotion back to the Premiership. But I'm saddened to see Carl Tremarco and Paul Cowie leave the club. It's never pleasant to see people lose their jobs, and I'm sure both Carl and Paul will be back in the game somewhere soon enough. It's clear chairman Roy MacGregor felt he had to make some changes following the club's relegation from the top-flight. There's a big rebuilding job needed at the Staggies this summer, but it became apparent pretty quickly that Roy was backing Don. Had he wanted to make a change it would have happened already – and before decisions were made on players leaving the club in the last few ways. The addition of John Robertson to the backroom staff as assistant manager will help. Robbo has the experience and the contacts in the game to help Don and he will be the perfect foil for the manager in the new-look coaching team. He'll need to delve into that contact list to help Don reshape his squad for the new campaign in the Championship.. Seven loan players – Jonathan Tomkinson, Jack Grieves, Zac Ashworth, Kacper Lopata, Eli Campbell, Will Nightingale and Nohan Kenneh – have returned to their clubs, while Scott Allardice, James Brown and Ryan Leak have left. That's 10 guys already out the door if you are keeping count, and I know from speaking to the chairman in the past how frustrating he finds having to start over with building a squad every summer. It's the nature of the beast for County due to the club's location and it has been a major challenge for every manager who has been there. Robbo can only help Don on that front. I look at the division and I'm convinced it is getting tougher every season – it's certainly a more competitive Championship than it has been for years. In St Johnstone, Partick Thistle, Ayr United, Raith Rovers and Dunfermline, that's five teams who will be expecting to be in the hunt for the title alongside the Staggies before a ball has been kicked.

Nottingham happy to exit Livi 'on such a high'
Michael Nottingham is leaving Livingston at the end of his contract, with the defender saying "what a way to go out" after helping the club win promotion back to the Scottish Birmingham-born 36-year-old joined the West Lothian club in 2023 after exiting Accrington Stanley and has made 66 appearances made 36 of those this season, 27 of them starts, as Livingston finished Championship runners-up before beating Ross County in the play-off former Castle Vale, Redditch United, Gresley, Solihull Moors, Salford City, Blackpool and Crewe Alexandra defender said on X: "What a group of lads.... one of the best! What a great club. "Thank you Livingston for everything. Truly enjoyed my time at the club and so happy to leave on such a high."
