BN-PH pact stands despite GRS-PH deal: Zahid
Published on: Wed, Jul 30, 2025
By: Anne Muhammad, FMT Text Size: KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi ( pic ) has reiterated that the coalition's alliance with Pakatan Harapan in the upcoming Sabah state elections is final, after Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) announced a similar pact with PH. Zahid maintained that BN and PH's cooperation was 'locked in' following an agreement made at the federal level. 'We have already finalised our collaboration with PH, which means that both BN and PH have been locked in as partners for the Sabah state elections. 'Meanwhile, PH and GRS have also finalised the cooperation between them,' he said when met on the sidelines of an event at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here. This indicates that BN and GRS are likely to clash in the upcoming state election. On Sunday, GRS chairman Hajiji Noor announced that the Sabah ruling coalition and PH had agreed to form an alliance in the upcoming state polls. He said seat negotiations had commenced and a basic formula established, with several 'minor matters' needing to be finalised. Sabah PKR chief Mustapha Sakmud later confirmed that Sabah PH's components had also agreed to the pact. In May, the head of the unity government's secretariat, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki of Umno, and PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that BN and PH would work together in the Sabah polls. Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin later said the coalition would not work with GRS in the state election, but would only consider cooperation after the outcome of the polls. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had, however, hoped that all three coalitions would be able to work together for the polls. Sabah Umno and GRS used to be allies in the state government, but Bung led a failed attempt to unseat Hajiji in January 2023 by retracting support for the chief minister. Hajiji remained as chief minister with the backing of PH, which is now part of the state government. Umno sits in the opposition with Warisan. - FMT * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Centralised price system to boost transparency
Published on: Monday, August 04, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 04, 2025 By: Crystal E Hermenegildus Text Size: Armizan said the effort aligns with the Government's long-term plan to stabilise the cost of living by tackling the root causes of inflation- not only through subsidies, but by increasing supply chain efficiency and accountability. PENAMPANG: The Government will develop a centralised Price and Supply Repository System to monitor price trends and prevent manipulative practices in the market, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. He said the system, to be introduced under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), will provide a transparent data platform to detect abnormal price movements and support enforcement action against profiteering and cartel-like behaviour. 'This is a proactive step toward ensuring fairer market practices and greater price transparency across the supply chain, especially for essential goods,' he told reporters after officiating the Seminar Kenegaraan Malaysia Madani: Rancakkan Madani Sabah at ITTC Penampang. According to Armizan, the repository system will consolidate real-time information on pricing, supply volumes, and distribution to assist both consumers and regulators in making informed decisions. 'Through this system, enforcement agencies will be able to act more swiftly and decisively using data-driven evidence. It's a game-changer in combating unethical manipulation and protecting consumer interests,' he said. He added that the system will be developed through inter-ministerial cooperation and partnerships with industry players, including suppliers, retailers, and logistics operators. Armizan said the effort aligns with the Government's long-term plan to stabilise the cost of living by tackling the root causes of inflation- not only through subsidies, but by increasing supply chain efficiency and accountability. 'The repository system is not just a database. It is a tool to break the monopoly of information held by certain parties who manipulate prices for profit,' he said. Enforcement under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 and the Competition Act 2010 will also be strengthened using the data from the repository, which is expected to help uncover price-fixing activities, stock hoarding, and artificial shortages. Armizan emphasised that the initiative reflects the Madani Government's commitment to protecting consumers while creating s healthier market environment that encourages genuine competition. 'This is part of our wider agenda under 13RMP to raise the rakyat's purchasing power and build a resilient domestic economy,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? School apologises for upside down Jalur Gemilang
Published on: Monday, August 04, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 04, 2025 By: FMT Text Size: 'Due to carelessness, one of the flags was hoisted upside down,' it was quoted as saying in a statement posted on the school's Facebook page. SEREMBAN: SJKC Chung Hua in Port Dickson has apologised for mistakenly flying the Jalur Gemilang flag upside down at the school last Friday. The school, in a joint statement with the school board and parents-teachers association (PIBG), expressed regret for the incident, attributing it to staff oversight, Bernama reported. 'The incident occurred on the afternoon of Aug 1, when a school employee was installing national flags before the end of the workday. 'Due to carelessness, one of the flags was hoisted upside down,' it was quoted as saying in a statement posted on the school's Facebook page. The school said it was alerted about the error at around 5pm and immediately rectified it, acknowledging public concern following the circulation of photos of the flag on social media. SJKC Chung Hua said it remains committed to respecting national symbols and will improve internal oversight to avoid future incidents. Meanwhile, education minister Fadhlina Sedek said that stern action will be taken against the school after a full investigation is completed and the report is submitted to the ministry, BuletinTV3 reported. 'We are currently awaiting the full investigation, and I want to emphasise that once we receive the report, action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Fadhlina said that her ministry has repeatedly reminded all parties about this issue, and the same problem should not have happened again. 'I constantly stress the importance of sensitivity, responsibility, and commitment when it comes to the Jalur Gemilang, especially as we approach National Day. This mistake should not have occurred,' she said after an event in Kota Bharu today, according to BuletinTV3. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
