An arm injury has ruled him out of returning - leaving Joshua to have surgery on his elbow in May.
And promoter Eddie Hearn revealed talks with Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh have taken place in the meantime.
Hearn told BoxingScene: "We are actually discussing a two-fight deal with Riyadh Season.
'We've been doing that, [Turki Alalshikh] said that on the night of Canelo [vs. William Scull, May 3], when we had our meeting, and that's the plan really.

"We want to box sometime this year, October, November, December.'
Joshua, 35, snubbed a rematch with Dubois, 27, the IBF champion.
Dubois now rematches Oleksandr Usyk on July 19 at Wembley two years after losing to the Ukrainian.
Fury, 36, was twice beaten by Usyk, 38, in 2024 and announced his shock retirement in January.

It dashes hopes of a British blockbuster with AJ but Hearn said: 'We'll see what happens with Dubois-Usyk, we'll see what happens with Fury.
'And if we don't fight those guys, we'll fight, and then maybe we'll follow one of those guys next year.'
Josh Kelly played against Jordan Pickford but now eyes title fight against 'freak' champ who's as tall as Anthony Joshua
Two names also on Joshua's radar is Dillian Whyte and American Jared Anderson.
Hearn said: 'Two guys that have been discussed, but nothing concrete."
AJ knocked out Whyte in 2015 and they were due to meet in a rematch in August 2023.
That was until Whyte returned "an adverse finding" in his pre-fight drug test - having to subsequently withdraw.
He blamed the failed test on a tainted supplement and returned last year with wins in Ireland and Gibraltar.
Anderson, 25, meanwhile was KO'd by Martin Bakole, 31, last August but beat Marios Kollias in his February comeback.

Lions star accused of 'criminal' act as damning image emerges Fans were left in disbelief at what they were seeing in the third Test in Sydney Andrew Porter of the British & Irish Lions has found himself in the firing line after a controversial outing in Sydney in the third and final Test (Image: Getty Images) British and Irish Lions star Andrew Porter has seen his methods pulled under the microscope again by furious Australia fans, after the Wallabies saved a series whitewash with in an eventful victory in Sydney. ‌ Tries from Dylan Pietsch, Max Jorgensen and Tate McDermott proved enough to seal victory for the hosts, with the Lions responding with touchdowns from Jac Morgan and Will Stuart. ‌ On a day where play was delayed by severe weather, there were several key talking points to emerge from the contest. The Irishman's angle in driving the scrum has been called out by fans before, but reached an apex on social media during this defeat, with some onlookers in disbelief at what he was able to get away with by referee Nika Amashukeli's whistle in the loss, but fans online are still dismayed by what he was able to get away with. Just hours after the match, one user on X shared an aerial image of Porter's scrummaging, which appeared to demonstrate his unusual driving angle. Article continues below 'Porter up to his normal tricks again yesterday," they wrote. "And the most astonishing thing is? It was the Aussies who got penalised in this scrum!' Content cannot be displayed without consent This post sparked plenty of healthy debate, with another user musing 'Not even Shane Warne got that much turn in Australia!' ‌ Another fan wrote: 'How Porter is allowed to scrummage at that angle is beyond me. Should be a penalty almost every scrum." "Andrew Porter would never win a scrum if he was forced to scrum straight," said another. "Nika allowing him to scrum skew just to get the ball out.' 'I'm sorry but Andrew Porter on those aerial views is a ****** criminal for the way he binds down to scrum," was the view of another fan. "WOW. And they are all in front of the referee!!!' ‌ But despite the fume from some, there were a few onlookers that did offer some support to Porter. Former referee Nigel Owens wrote: 'Although I am not disputing either way with you on this image, you can only make an accurate call if you see the whole sequence in motion, not just a still image.' Porter was eventually taken off just after half-time and was replaced with Ellis Genge, but some felt even his replacement was guilty of attempting to manipulate the scrum laws. Article continues below "I noticed it consistently across all three games from both Porter and Genge. To the point where it felt like they'd been deliberately coached to do it."

Do motorists really need this car finance payout?

It was, at least, far better than the City feared. Shares in banks and finance houses such as Lloyds and Close Brothers were soaring on the London market this morning after the Supreme Court rejected claims that they potentially owed tens of billions in mis-sold car finance. Instead, they are likely to get away with a mere £9 billion to £18 billion instead. But this still doesn't address a pretty important question: it is not really clear why Britain's motorists deserve a few billion from the banks. All it is doing is putting us on a slippery slope to an out-of-control compensation culture. After the markets closed on Friday, the Supreme Court surprised the City by finally making a sensible decision. It rejected the bulk of the claims that the main banks and finance houses had mis-sold millions of car finance packages by not fully disclosing the commission paid on the deals. It ruled, perfectly reasonably, that the terms were mostly set out in the small print, and, anyway, anyone buying a car already knew that the trade, to put it politely, has never been famous for its scrupulously fair dealings with customers, so people should have checked what they were signing. These claims could have run to £40 billion or more. On the news, Lloyds shares jumped by 8 per cent, and Close Brothers by 34 per cent. It was a relief for shareholders – and also for the government, which could hardly afford to bail out any lenders who might be bankrupted by the payouts. The trouble is, the Financial Conduct Authority is now planning a more limited compensation scheme to cover cases where commissions and interest on car loans were excessively high. It could still cost between £9 billion and £18 billion, with motorists getting around £950 each. Given that almost everybody who buys a car uses some form of finance scheme, it could provide a useful bonus for millions of families. A lot of holidays will be paid for with the spare cash. And yet, it is very hard to see the point. After all, the payout won't be very significant to any individual. In reality, many of the complaints are widely inflated by ambulance-chasing lawyers and claims management companies who rake off huge fees. The problem for the UK is that we are fast developing an American-style system of mass consumer litigation, with all the expense and uncertainty that creates, but without the American levels of productivity and innovation to make up for it. It is the worst of all worlds. The £950 handed out to motorists won't make much difference to any of them. But it will make the UK a far worse place to run a finance business – and that matters far more.

David Moyes reveals injury concern and disappointment with two Everton stars

David Moyes admits he has been disappointed with both Beto and James Garner during Everton's pre-season, as he reveals an injury concern ahead of the new campaign. It has been a difficult summer for the Toffees in what should be an exciting time for the club as they move into their new stadium under new ownership. The squad is thin after the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Mason Holgate and Ashley Young all left at the end of their contracts and signings have been slow to arrive. Carlos Alcaraz has made his loan move permanent and both Thierno Barry and Adam Aznou have arrived, but Moyes would like more arrivals before the season begins in two weeks. The Scotsman's frustrations are not limited to the transfer market, however, as he has voiced his unhappiness with a couple of players. Speaking before Everton's 2-2 friendly draw with Manchester United on Sunday, Moyes called out striker Beto, saying: 'I've been a bit disappointed with Beto and I've told him. We're needing a bit more and he can do more and he has done more. 'So we're hoping we can get a bit more from him, but he's a really honest working lad and I'm sure he'll try and prove that tonight.' Beto played 60 minutes of the match in Atlanta before being replaced by summer signing Barry, who he will be competing with to play up front this season. The Toffees boss also admitted he had been underwhelmed by the performances of James Garner so far this summer, but that changed thanks to his display against his former club on Sunday. 'I've actually been pretty disappointed in Jimmy in the early games in pre-season, but not tonight,' said the manager. 'Tonight, I thought he played really well and he actually went all of the distance. 'But you've got to remember, we've played Jimmy Garner at right wing-back because we've not had other people to do the job. Jimmy's a bit more flexible but we played him a little bit deeper and I thought as the game went on, he was the one who was still chugging along and I was pleased with him.' While Moyes was pleased to see James Tarkowski back in the team after injury and suggested Jarrad Branthwaite will soon be available again, there was less good news about Nathan Patterson. The defender has featured on the American tour but was not involved against the Red Devils, with the manager revealing he has a fitness concern. 'Nathan has got hernia symptoms,' said Moyes. 'Whether it means he's got a hernia or not, we're not sure, but we'll have him assessed on Tuesday after we get back.' Results-wise, Everton's pre-season has not been good, with Sunday's draw coming after defeats to West Ham, Bournemouth and Blackburn Rovers. More Trending Their final pre-season game comes on Saturday at home to Roma before their Premier League campaign begins at Leeds United on Monday August 18. On the prospect of new signings before then, Moyes said: 'I think there'll be deals next week. I think we're getting much closer. But I felt that four or five weeks ago as well. 'Obviously, we're getting near the tickly bits and we've got to get some things done.'
