Kotak Bank launches Solitaire to target India's growing affluent class
By Advait Palepu and Apoorva Ajith Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. is extending wealth management and bespoke services to its affluent customers as competition for servicing India's rapidly-growing tribe of rich individuals heats up. The Mumbai-based private lender backed by billionaire Uday Kotak Wednesday launched 'Kotak Solitaire,' an offering targeted at salaried customers with Rs 0.75 crore ($86,786) in relationship value and self-employed clients with Rs 1 crore. 'The affluent segment is growing twice as fast the rest of the wealth market,' said Rohit Bhasin, chief marketing officer at Kotak Mahindra Bank. Through Solitaire, Kotak is looking to grow its 4 per cent market share among affluent Indians by offering them banking and investment products and services usually reserved for the wealthy and super-rich, he said. The move comes as independent wealth managers like 360 One WAM Ltd., Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd. and Blackstone Inc.-backed ASK Group are spreading out across the country to woo high networth individuals beyond India's metropolitan centers. 'This is a stickier customer, you can earn more from affluent customers and their needs pan out across products,' Bhasin said. More than a third of the bank's business comes from its affluent customers, he added. Kotak is India's fourth-largest private bank after HDFC Bank Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd. and Axis Bank Ltd. Its private banking division is among the largest wealth managers in the country, catering to individuals with over $1 million in investable assets and servicing 60 per cent of India's top 100 families. Solitaire's offerings include dedicated relationship managers, access to alternative assets, portfolio management services and lifestyle products, the bank said in a release. For businesses, there will be enhanced working capital loans, payments, cash management and forex services. Kotak managed assets worth Rs 8.45 trillion across its private banking, priority banking and investment advisory divisions as of March 31. The bank's shares closed 0.5 per cent higher at Rs 2,170.40 in Mumbai on Wednesday.

ED Attaches Shares Worth Rs 127.33 Crore In Panchkula Based Hospitals Owned By Son Of Ex-Rajya Sabha MP
NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached shares worth Rs 127.33 crore in two of Haryana's Panchkula based hospitals, Alchemist Hospital and Ojas Hospital, owned by Karan Deep Singh, son of former Rajya Sabha MP Kanwar Deep Singh, as part of its action in an ongoing money laundering case, the agency said in a statement on Wednesday. According to the statement, the ED's Delhi Zonal Office attached these shares under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The attachment forms part of an ongoing investigation into money laundering involving Alchemist Group, its directors, promoters, and associated entities, in relation to large-scale fraud and the misappropriation of public funds. ED initiated the investigation based on a First Information Report (FIR) initially registered by the Kolkata Police, and subsequently by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Alchemist Township Pvt Ltd, Alchemist Infra Realty Pvt Ltd, and promoter and directors of the Alchemist Group, including Kanwar Deep Singh and others. ED said that the case pertains to a "large-scale criminal conspiracy to defraud investors by illegally raising funds through fraudulent Collective Investment Schemes (CIS), offering unusually high returns, and/ or making false promises of allotting plots, flats, and villas." "Through these deceptive investment schemes, Alchemist Holdings Ltd and Alchemist Township India Ltd illegally collected approximately Rs 1,848 crore from unsuspecting investors and subsequently misappropriated the funds for unauthorised purposes," said the ED. ED's investigation has revealed that the misappropriated funds were "systematically layered through complex financial transactions involving group entities of the Alchemist Group, with the intent to conceal the illicit origin of the funds." "These tainted proceeds were ultimately used for the acquisition of shares and subsequent construction of Alchemist Hospital and Ojas Hospital. The transactions were deliberately structured to project these assets as legitimate, thereby disguising the Proceeds of Crime," said the federal agency. The ED also said that "the shares of Alchemist Hospital and Ojas Hospital are held to the extent of 40.94 per cent and 37.24 per cent, respectively, by Sorus Agritech Pvt Ltd, a company beneficially owned by Karan Deep Singh, son of Kanwar Deep Singh." Earlier in this case, Kanwar Deep Singh was arrested by ED on January 12, 2021. Thereafter, a prosecution complaint was filed by the ED before the Special Court (PMLA) in New Delhi on March 2, 2021, and a supplementary Prosecution Complaint was filed on July 19, 2024. The ED has already provisionally attached movable and immovable properties worth Rs 238.42 crore through five separate provisional attachment orders.

Crumbling 4-room Ayodhya school gets PCI nod in 8 min: CBI
Ahmedabad: In what the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has called a "premeditated abuse of regulatory processes", a ramshackle four-room primary school in Ayodhya was approved to run a pharmacy college after an online inspection that lasted barely eight minutes. The inspection, conducted via Zoom on July 3, 2023, forms a central piece of evidence in the corruption probe against Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) president Dr Montu Kumar Patel and others. According to the preliminary enquiry triggered by a complaint from the Union ministry of health and family welfare, the PCI replaced physical site inspections with online inspections from April 2023. The CBI's findings revealed that the virtual inspection of the Ayodhya school was conducted without the principal being present, and the institute's infrastructure was even flagged as "non-compliant". Yet, the PCI allowed the institution five days to file an affidavit of compliance, and just two months later, on Sep 6, 2023, the PCI's executive committee, chaired by Dr Patel, formally approved the institute to offer a diploma in pharmacy, revealed the CBI documents. CBI officers traced nearly Rs 10 lakh in cash and Rs 95,000 via three separate bank transfers to a local primary school teacher, who was tasked with managing the inspection, preparing documentation, and securing PCI approval. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa Prices in Dubai Might Be Lower Than You Think! When CBI investigators finally visited the institute, they found it to be nothing more than a dilapidated four-room school with no faculty, no infrastructure, and no students, and clearly unfit to function as a pharmacy college. The Ayodhya case is just one among at least 23 similar approvals uncovered by the CBI across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. In all these cases, pharmacy colleges were sanctioned despite falling short of the mandatory standards. On June 30, 2025, the CBI registered a regular FIR under IPC Sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating), and Sections 7, 7A, and 8 of the amended Prevention of Corruption Act.
