IDC: vivo ruled India in Q2, market grew 1% in the first half
vivo is still No.1 with 19% market share and a 23.5% increase in sales over Q2 2024. In second place is Samsung with 14.5% of the market, up 21% YoY. Third place Oppo (with 12.4% share) also grew, by 25.4%, as did sixth place Motorola (8% of the pie, 39.4% growth), seventh place Apple (7.5% share, 19.7% growth), and eighth place iQOO (4.3% of the pie, 68.4% growth).
Everyone else was down. Realme, in fourth place, now has 9.7% of the market, with 17.8% less shipments, fifth place Xiaomi saw a 23.5% decline, ninth place Poco's shipments were down 28.8%, and tenth place OnePlus had to make do with 39.4% less shipments.
The average smartphone selling price reached a record of $275 in Q2 this year, growing by 10.8% YoY. The under-$100 segment grew 22.9%, led by Xiaomi. The $100-$200 segment grew by 1.1% YoY, with vivo, Oppo, and Realme dominating. The $200 to $400 segment saw 2.5% less shipments, the $400 to $600 segment grew by 39.5%, and the $600 to $800 segment grew the most at 96.4%. The over $800 segment grew by 15.8%. Qualcomm-powered devices had 33.9% of the market, while MediaTek's share was 44.3%.
IDC estimates a low single-digit decline in smartphone shipments in India for the entire year.

Poco M7 Plus introduced with 7,000 mAh battery
Poco has launched a new budget smartphone in India called Poco M7 Plus 5G. It is the latest M series phone and succeeds the M6 Plus, which debuted in August 2024. The Poco M7 Plus houses a massive 7,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery with support for 33W charging and 18W reverse charging. In line with the recent trend of brands touting the "slimmest" phones in specific categories, Poco claims the M7 Plus is the thinnest handset with a 7,000 mAh battery, measuring just 8.4mm. Poco's new M series phone features a 6.9-inch Full HD+ LCD that refreshes at 144Hz. It has 550 nits of peak brightness, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display features a punch-hole cutout for the 8 MP front camera. The M7 Plus is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 SoC, paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage. Thankfully, the phone gets a microSD slot for storage expansion up to 2TB. It has a dual rear camera setup with a 50 MP primary sensor and an unknown secondary unit. You do get a couple of AI features such as AI Dynamic Shot, AI Eraser, and AI Sky replacement. The phone runs Android 15-based Hyper OS and is promised to receive two years of OS updates with four years of security patches. Poco is also offering Google Gemini on the device. vivo Vision launch event confirmed
Michail, 13 August 2025 The first Mixed Reality (MX) headset from vivo is launching on August 21. The brand confirmed the details via Weibo and shared some additional teasers ahead of the event. The device will feature a similar design to Apple's Vision Pro with a metal construction and a visor housing the displays. We also get a glimpse at the digital crown element, which will be used for controlling the headset's opacity. We can also see the knit light seal and band around the back. Hong Yi, General Manager of vivo Smart Device Products, shared a few additional details about the device. It will be as immersive and precise as the Apple Vision Pro, featuring true three-dimensional controls – likely hand gestures just like on Apple's headset. Yi also shared that vivo's headset will feature an ultra-lightweight design. Sadly, the vivo Vision will not be a mass-market product right away.
