Shaka iLembe returns with fierce battles, royal intrigue, and tender romance
The highly anticipated second season of the hit Mzansi Magic series picks up where the first left off: with Shaka no longer just the child of prophecy, but now stepping into his destiny as a leader and military strategist.
While the first season explored Shaka's birth, his trials, and the ancestral forces that shaped him, the second season shifts the lens toward his rise as the legendary founder of the Zulu kingdom.

Lemogang Tsipa portrays the adult King Shaka, while Ntando Zondi plays the younger version of the future Zulu king.
Tsipa said there was a lot to expect in this second series – power struggles, intense political manoeuvres, fierce battles, and yes, a few steamy romantic moments that show a different side of the man behind the legend.
Yet at its heart, the series remains deeply rooted in historical truth, offering a visually stunning and culturally rich retelling of the Zulu kingdom's formation.
Asked how he found portraying the transition of Shaka becoming king in the second series, Tsipe said, 'It is a natural progression. For me, it was a surreal kind of experience because it's one of those things where you dream as a person and then pursue that dream. Before Shaka was born, and this [to be king] was supposed to be his destiny, so I think it's a beautiful moment to be able to walk the journey from the start to the fulfillment of what he wanted.

'There's a particular side of Shaka that we haven't seen or heard about in the street books that we do explore in the series. A side that he is a bit more tender and romantic.'
Wiseman Mncube portrays the late King Zwide KaLanga, a very intense character who is always eager for war.
Mncube said tapping into KaLanga's spirit as a character was not easy. 'I always trust myself in anything that I do. Because it is a historical show, obviously we have to research, learn about AboZwide, and ask a lot of questions. So I just told myself, I'll just trust myself, and the script that was given.'

The show will premiere its second season on June 15 on Mzansi Magic.

'Sad Girl' books: the trend that's got us feeling all the feels - should we celebrate or worry?
In a world grappling with climate anxiety, economic uncertainty, unattainable beauty standards and the ever-looming pressure to perform and succeed, Gen Z and younger millennials are turning to literature that feels like them. These novels - often moody, introspective and emotionally raw - centre around young women navigating mental health struggles , societal pressure, alienation and the quest for identity. From TikTok r eels to #BookTok shelves at local bookstores, 'Sad Girl' books have become the literary obsession of a generation. But while some hail these books as honest portrayals of the modern female psyche, others worry they glamorise depression and self-destructive behaviour. So, are 'Sad Girl" books empowering or harmful? And what does their popularity say about the times we're living in? What is a 'Sad Girl' book? A 'Sad Girl" book is a type of contemporary literature that centres on emotionally complex, often troubled female protagonists who are navigating the messy, painful and sometimes mundane aspects of life. These stories are typically told from a first-person or deeply introspective point of view, with themes that revolve around mental health, loneliness, existential dread, female desire, body image, burnout, heartbreak and the search for meaning in a complex world. These books aren't necessarily about "plot" - they're about mood and emotion. And why are they popular? The rise of 'Sad Girl Lit" is no coincidence. It's a product of its time - our time. In a world grappling with climate anxiety, economic uncertainty, unattainable beauty standards and the ever-looming pressure to perform and succeed, Gen Z and younger millennials are turning to literature that feels like them. Online, hashtags like #SadGirlLit and #FeministFiction rack up millions of views. There's also a rebellion against toxic positivity - this idea that people, especially women, must always be 'okay', always healing, always hustling. 'Sad Girl' books say: It's okay to be a mess sometimes.

Shock as SA couple 'charge' guests up to R65k to attend wedding
TikTok content creators Tisha and Thabang Mokoena have pranked South Africans into believing their outrageous wedding demand in a post that has gone viral. The couple, who married in 2023, spoofed the country by inviting wedding guests to spend thousands of rands to attend their special day. On the X app, a screenshot of a TikTok prank by the couple quickly went viral. In it, Tisha and Thabiso Mokoena demanded that guests choose a wedding package to attend their special day. The price guide contained three categories for table reservations: Bronze for R20 000, which included a bar tab of R5000, a meal platter, and an Instagram tag by the couple Silver for R30 000, which included first row seating, a bar tab worth R7 500, and a 'VIP pictures' with the couple. Gold for R65 000, which featured a 'VVIP access to pre-wedding activities', a speech, and a bar tab at over R10 000. The X post – viewed almost a million times – had many South Africans gawking at the audacity of the couple. However, it was all for laughs as the TikTokers have been known to post comedic posts about love, marriage, and relationships. One South African who hopped on the gag was media personality Anele Mdoda, who is planning her white wedding. The 947 presenter reposted the invitation, telling her followers: 'Tickets are selling out fast for our wedding. Early bird tickets are done'. In April, Anele announced her engagement to partner, Bulelela 'Buzza' James, with a traditional lobola celebration. They are expected to host a grand wedding celebration in the coming months.
