Thailand's rosy-cheeked and chubby celebrity hippopotamus is turning one year old today – and the zoo is going all out for her first year.
Pygmy hippo Moo-Deng, a name which translates to 'bouncy pork', was dubbed an 'icon' and 'legend' by Time Magazine by the time she was two months old, and has amassed millions of followers.
She lives in Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi, Thailand, and gained fame for her sassy antics, including biting her keepers and making unforgettable faces.
Thousands of people are now coming to the zoo for a four-day festival to celebrate the little hippo's big day.
Activities at the festival include a lecture on 'Moo Deng's cheekiness', and skincare tips (Miss Moo sparked a beauty craze last year thanks to her glow).
There's also an auction for some of her belongings – whatever those might be – and a massive £3,300 fruit cake will be presented to her as a gift.
One of Moo Deng's keepers, Attaphol Nundee, said: 'Moo Deng used to be very naughty and jumped around all the time. Now she only eats and sleeps.'
Though the internet icon's popularity has slowed a bit as she grew, she still has a devoted fan base and her own line of merchandise.
But her popularity has helped raise awareness of her species, which is listed as endangered. Estimates from the Pygmy Hippo Foundation suggest there are currently no more than 2,000 living in the wild.
Attaphon added: 'I hope that the cuteness of Moo-Deng will raise awareness for people to come and learn about the species.'
The adorable hippo has siblings also named after pork – Moo Wan, which means Thai sweet pork; Pha Lor, which means pork belly stew; and Moo Tun, which means stewed pork.
If you're unable to celebrate Moo Deng's first birthday with her in Thailand, you can find a pygmy hippo closer to home.
Edinburgh Zoo hippos Gloria and Otto welcomed wee Haggis last October, with staff saying she would be a little 'ambassador' for her species.
Haggis has a bit of a personality as well – her keepers previously told Metro she was feisty and fun. More Trending
Metro spoke to Penny Jack, a hoofstock keeper who works with Haggis, about how the zoo will celebrate the baby hippo's first Christmas.
Hoofstock workers help with animals including giraffes, hippos, rhinos, zebras, antelopes and other hoofed species.
Jack said: 'She's definitely feisty enough – she takes after her mum – but Otto is a chill dad. He usually lies down and keeps himself comfy.
'The girls will join him if they're in the mood to, otherwise Gloria tells him that she needs space so he'll leave her and the baby to it.'

Doctor Who fans finally get sci-fi crossover they've been waiting 20 years for

When it comes to TV shows doing crossovers, it's quite often the case that things can feel clunky or forced. Brooklyn Nine Nine's collaboration with New Girl, for instance, was widely criticised by both sets of fanbases, as well as Family Guy's crossover with The Simpsons. But for Doctor Who and Star Trek, the sci-fi series have dropped potentially one of the best (and most discreet) Easter eggs of all time. After years of fans pleading for some sort of combination between the two long-running shows, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has finally delivered! Despite there being numerous in-jokes and small references in each series, the TARDIS has appeared in the latest episode of Strange New Worlds. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. Season three episode six sees James T Kirk (Paul Wesley) take command for the first time after his ship, The Farragut, is damaged. Meanwhile, the Enterprise is captured by an enormous scavenger ship. But, as the scavenger ship begins to fly around the Enterprise, a tiny flash of blue can be seen to it's right-hand side, which is is the TARDIS. In previous episodes of Doctor Who, Ncuti Gatwa's first full episode told Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) that they should visit the Enterprise one day. However, the use of the TARDIS in Stark Trek is the first actual time there has been a physical crossover. There seems to be plenty of room for speculation, too, with potential theories pointing towards the TARDIS coincidentally crossing paths with the scavenger ship or Enterprise. But it appears it won't be the last time we see such a crossover after Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies said on a panel: 'We would love to announce a crossover between Star Trek and Doctor Who [but we aren't doing that today],' according to RadioTimes. 'If anyone can make that happen… it's fans that can make that happen! Two great big broadcasters, two great big empires — and their lawyers! — would have to come together, but we can do that, can't we?' This comes after Ncuti Gatwa admitted what his biggest Doctor Who regret was after his two-season run in the show came to an end. More Trending The Sex Education actor, 32, departed the show after just 18 months amid low viewing figures and a lack of hype surrounding the series. However, speaking on tonight's episode of The One Show with Alex Jones, he said he wishes he could have met the Doctor's most insidious enemies. 'I never got to fight a Dalek or a Cyberman. Just the crux of Doctor Who. Yeah, so… Might do that… Might go fight a Dalek,' he said. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is available to watch on Paramount+. Doctor Who is available to watch on BBC iPlayer. Got a story? BBC has 'no plans' to make second season of doc series despite 3,.9mil viewers

The BBC has confirmed they have 'no plans' to make any episodes of a docu-series that was watched by millions, with Top Gear's Paddy McGuiness and Chris Harris at the helm. The former Top Gear stars reunited last year for their first project together since co-presenter Freddie Flintoff was injured in a horror car crash in December 2022. The BBC took their long-running flagship motoring show off the air following the accident, after which the 52-year-old comedian and 50-year-old racing driver launched their own travel show. Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping saw the pair travelling through Europe, covering Sweden, Greece and Switzerland in a zippy three-part season. The season aired as Paddy and Chris were facing their fiftieth decade and posed the question of how to age well, with the pair 'seeking secrets from the Europeans who do it best', according to the BBC synopsis. However, the BBC has now told the Metro the broadcaster has 'no plans' on further episodes of the docu-series. A BBC spokesperson said: 'Whilst viewers can enjoy all episodes of Road Tripping on BBC iPlayer now, there are currently no plans for any new episodes at the moment.' Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping was a success among viewers, with an average audience of 3.9million viewers tuning in when the docu-series aired in BBC One's Sunday slot last year. The Sun has reported that the travel show's prospect of returning for a sophomore season 'was not helped' by comments Chris made about the BBC in the wake of Freddie's crash, shortly before the docu-series was slated to air. Chris has claimed he expressed safety concerns to the BBC before the ex cricketer was seriously injured filming a Top Gear episode at the show's test track at Dunsfold. More Trending Speaking to podcaster Joe Rogan, Chris said he had warned the BBC three months before the accident that there could be a 'serious injury' or 'fatality' if safety procedures were not tightened. BBC Studios, which produces Top Gear, at the time referred to an independent investigation in 2023 which found the show had complied with industry best practice. But the production company also said there were 'learnings which would need to be rigorously applied' if the show were to return to air. Diana Vickers reveals moment she caught Leonardo DiCaprio doing 'bizarre' thing

In a strange clash of worlds, Diana Vickers once ended up in a 'bizarre' situation with Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio. The former X Factor star, 34, revealed on Metro's Just Between Us podcast that she had gone to Leo's home, thinking she'd landed a party invitation. Diana was discussing age-gap relationships with co-host Alice Giddings when the topic of the Titanic actor cropped up due to his recent comments. Leonardo, 50, has a reputation for dating a string of 20-something models and is currently seeing Vittoria Ceretti, 27. He was put forward as an example of a 'man in Hollywood with so much fame and power, who doesn't want to grow up.' 'I did meet Leo once', the singer told Metro's sex columnist before adding: 'He will have no memory of meeting me.' Diana revealed: 'One of his mates invited me around to his house. I thought it was going to be a party. 'Then I ended up just sitting with him watching telly. It was a really, really bizarre moment.' However, Diana believed this was more than just a one-time weirdness and instead the Revenant star 'has a system'. 'So, Leo's obviously at the helm of it – and he surrounds himself with these good-looking lads, who are all looking for a good time,' she shared. 'The good-looking lads go and source these hot women for him – it's really dodgy. 'That stuff happens a lot in Hollywood. These men have got so much fame and power, and they don't want to grow up. 'They just want to be surrounded by beautiful young women all the time. I am not generalising Leo here, I think that's just what happens. 'It's quite weird actually.' Leo recently said he 'turned emotionally 35 last year' in an interview for Esquire, after stating he was 32 years old. However, Diana explained that the age-gap relationship is becoming increasingly common for women as 'a lot more' are dating younger men. 'One of the last guys I dated was five years younger than me – I did feel it. It was why we didn't work out,' she said. More Trending Diana explained: 'When you're older, you want to put in the graft – you want to see things through. You don't dwell on smaller things as much. 'This guy just gave off immature energy – he was constantly holding on to things. I think I maybe acted immature because he was less mature. 'It made me feel less of my older, feminine energy. I sort of reverted back. It was a lot of fun though.' View More » You can listen to Metro's Just Between Us podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube. Got a story?
