"Game of Thrones" Spinoff "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" Shifts Premiere Window
'Game of Thrones' fans will have to wait a while longer to head back to Westeros, as the premiere of the new spinoff series 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' has now been slated for 2026.
While no official premiere date was ever set, Warner Bros. Discovery execs had previously said that the series, the second HBO prequel to 'Game of Thrones' following 'House of the Dragon,' would air by the end of 2025.
On Wednesday, the news of the show's push to 2026 was revealed via a first look at the 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' trailer that was shown during WBD's upfront presentation to advertisers at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The title card at the end of the footage said '2026,' but HBO content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys narrowed that down further on stage by saying the show was coming in the 'winter' when he cued up the teaser, indicating an early 2026 release.
HBO has not announced a premiere window for the third season of 'House of the Dragon,' which is currently in production and has been confirmed as the penultimate in a four-season run.
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' is adapted from George R.R. Martin's novella 'The Hedge Knight,' and will follow the exploits of the knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his young squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), roughly 100 years before the events of 'Game of Thrones' and 100 years after the events of 'House of the Dragon.' Dunk and Egg's journey will take them to a competition in which they encounter several members of the Targaryen dynasty — including Prince Aerion Targaryen (Finn Bennett), Prince Baelor Targaryen (Bertie Carvel) and Prince Maekar Targaryen (Sam Spruell) — along with another knight known as the Laughing Storm, Ser Lyonel Baratheon (Daniel Ings), and a puppeteer named Tanselle (Tanzyn Crawford).
The full logline for the series reads: 'A century before the events of 'Game of Thrones,' two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.'
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' is written and executive produced by Martin and Ira Parker ('The Sympathizer,' 'House of the Dragon'). Ryan Condal (the showrunner and co-creator of HBO's 'House of the Dragon'), Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw are executive producing.
Sarah Adina Smith ('Lessons In Chemistry,' 'Hanna') will direct three of the six episodes for Season 1; executive producer Harris will direct the other three episodes.

James Gunn to Direct Next Movie in the "Super-Family" at DC Studios
Yara Sameh James Gunn will write and direct 'the next installment in the Super-Family,' Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced during the company's earnings call. Gunn had previously said in various interviews during his 'Superman' press tour that he was writing a new movie featuring David Corenswet's Superman in it, although he always remained coy on whether it was a standalone 'Superman' sequel or something else. Zaslav provided no clarity there, opting to say 'next movie in the Super-Family,' but it's news that Gunn will direct the movie in addition to writing the screenplay. He served the same dual role on 'Superman.' Warner Bros. recently relaunched the DC Universe with Gunn's 'Superman,' which ignited to $125 million domestically in early July and has since generated $315 million in North America and $550 million globally. Next up for the franchise is 'Peacemaker' Season 2, followed by the 'Supergirl' movie and the 'Lanterns' television series in 2026. Plus there's 'Clayface,' which is set to film this year. Gunn recently told CBS Mornings that fans should expect each entry to have its own flavor and tone, just like actual comic books. ''Clayface' is a totally different thing. Although it's in the same universe, it's a complete horror film, and that's one of the things we want to do,' Gunn said. 'There's not a company style. It's not like every movie is gonna be like 'Superman.' The artists and the directors and the writers that create each one will bring their own sense to it. … We don't want people being bored.' James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired in 2022 to reset the state of DC Studios, which has long struggled to keep up with Disney's wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Beyond 'Superman,' portrayed in this world by David Corenswet, Gunn and Safran have outlined an ambitious, 10-year plan of interconnected sequels and spinoffs. Their efforts will continue with two blockbuster hopefuls in 2026, 'Supergirl' and 'Clayface,' as well as a new take on 'Wonder Woman.' Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has praised the team of Gunn and Safran for 'breathing new life and excitement into one of the most iconic storytelling franchises in the world.' Although 'Superman' has been a start, DC still faces challenges because 'Supergirl' and 'Clayface' are led by relatively unknown protagonists. That's compared to "Superman," who had an advantage as one of the most recognizable heroes on the planet. "The Batman 2" to Begin Shooting Next Spring
Yara Sameh Good news for fans of Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight. In Warner Bros. Discovery's recent letter to shareholders, the company announced that Matt Reeves' long-awaited 'The Batman Part II' will finally begin filming in spring 2026 for an October 2027 theatrical release. Pattinson, who's gone from filming Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' to Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune: Part Three' this year alone, returns in the title role. Warner Bros. Discovery's shareholder letter celebrated the recent success of James Gunn's 'Superman,' which kicked off the new DC Universe across film and television. The tentpole has earned nearly $550 million and counting worldwide. The company wrote: 'DC Studio's universe of characters represents not only one of Warner Bros. Discovery's most valuable pieces of intellectual property, but one of the most valuable assets in entertainment.' 'In film, James Gunn is busy preparing the next installments of the DC super family, including 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' (2026), 'Clayface' (2026) and the next 'Wonder Woman.' In addition, 'The Batman II' (2027) is preparing to begin shooting next spring, among several other projects in development. The 10-year vision for the DC universe also includes an exciting array of television projects, including 'The Penguin,' the upcoming new season of 'Peacemaker,' and the debut of 'Lanterns' in 2026. In a precise and measured way, the DC franchise will increasingly overlay across the studio's broader efforts: from film and TV to consumer products, games, experiences and social.' Fans have been waiting years for a sequel to Reeves and Pattinson's 'The Batman,' which opened in theaters in March 2022 and grossed $772 million at the worldwide box office. It has been a long development road for 'The Batman' sequel, which Warner Bros. delayed last year from October 2, 2026 to October 1, 2027. On June 27, Warner Bros. confirmed that Reeves and finally completed the script. While 'The Batman' sequel will now open more than five years after the original, Gunn has often defended the delay on social media by writing: 'To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels. 7 years between 'Alien' and 'Aliens.' 14 years between 'Incredibles.' 7 years between the first two 'Terminators.' 13 years between 'Avatars.' 36 years between 'Top Guns.' And, of course, 6 years between 'Guardians Vol 2' and 'Vol 3.'' 'Matt [Reeves] is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write,' Gunn added in a separate post. 'Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.' Gunn's rule at the new DC Studios is that no movie will move forward into the pre-production and production processes until the screenplay is finished, unlike Marvel Studios where movies often enter production with the script still taking shape. Gunn said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly earlier this summer that fans should have patience when it comes to getting sequels made. 'People should get off Matt's nuts because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it,' Gunn said then about 'The Batman' sequel. 'That's just the way it is. He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.' Gunn added, 'I am irritated by people. I mean, it's just that thing people don't need to be entitled about. It's going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. "Star Wars: Starfighter" Adds Matt Smith to Cast
Yara Sameh Matt Smith is the latest addition to the star-studded cast of Shawn Levy's 'Star Wars: Starfighter' for Lucasfilm. He will appear in a villain role, opposite previously announced cast members Ryan Gosling, and Mia Goth. This isn't Smith's first brush with the 'Star Wars' franchise. The 'House of the Dragon' star was previously cast in 'The Rise of Skywalker,' but ultimately didn't appear in the film. 'We were close to being in it, but it never quite happened. I think the thing they were thinking of before. Eventually, the part became obsolete and they didn't need it. So, I never got to be in 'Star Wars,'' rhe 'Doctor Who' alum told the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2021. While Smith refrained from elaborating on the role he would have played, many suspected he would portray the son of Emperor Palpatine. 'It was a really groovy part and concept. It was a big thing, a big story detail. A transformative 'Star Wars' story detail. But it never quite got over the line. It was a big shift in the history of the franchise," he added. Smith's additional credits include 'Last Night in Soho,' 'Morbius' and his Emmy-nominated turn as Prince Philip on 'The Crown.' He will soon appear in Darren Aronofsky's 'Caught Stealing' alongside Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz. 'Star Wars: Starfighter' shoots this fall and premieres in theaters on May 28, 2027. Jonathan Tropper wrote the script. He has written prior features for Levy ('The Adam Project,' 'This Is Where I Leave You') and is the creator of the Apple TV+ series 'Your Friends & Neighbors.' Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni officially unveiled plans for 'Starfighter' at the annual Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo in April. The standalone, which focuses on new characters in the 'Star Wars' universe, is set roughly five years after the events of 'Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker,' which concluded the Skywalker saga and stands as the final feature chronologically on the 'Star Wars' timeline.
