Kerala vehicle dealer fined for selling defective car with hidden history
Earlier, the Pathanamthitta District Commission had issued an order in favour of the customer and the state commission's order came on an appeal petition filed by the Tata Motors.
The customer, Abhilash hailing from Pathanamthitta, bought the car on 09.05.2011 from a dealer having branches at Vadavathoor in Kottayam and Santhosh Junction in Pathanamthitta. The dealer had informed him that the car was a brand new one manufactured in March 2011. The complainant paid Rs 11.76 lakh for the purchase.
According to the customer, the vehicle had several defects, mechanical and electrical, and had to be repaired frequently. While trying for an exchange, the customer learnt that the vehicle was manufactured in July 2010. Later, he found that the vehicle's chassis number stood in the name of the managing director as on 28.09.2010 and thereafter in the name of a person named Molly Salas as on 30.10.2010.
The customer preferred a complaint with the district commission after four years of purchase and by time the vehicle covered 24,155 km. The opposite parties were the manufacturer and the two branches of the dealer. The dealer attributed certain technical problems in the delay in rectifying records.
At the SCDRC, the case was considered by a bench comprising its president Justice B Sudheendra Kumar, judicial member D Ajith Kumar and member K R Radhakrishnan. The customer was represented by advocates Sreevaraham N G Mahesh and Sheeba Sadasivan. The commission found unfair trade practice on the part of the three opposite parties. It upheld the district commission's order directing them to pay Rs 3 lakh for the mental agony and Rs 10,000 as compensation and costs.

Wanaparthy police arrest constable-turned-builder on loan fraud charge
A police constable-turned-builder accused of duping his own department's Bharatha scheme and multiple banks to the tune of Rs. 2.61 crore was arrested by the Wanaparthy police on Tuesday. The 37-year-old accused Bandaru Rakesh, who joined back to duty after a long leave of nearly nine years, fabricated documents to secure multiple loans from three houses, Wanaparthy Superintendent of Police Ravula Giridhar said at a press conference. He got selected as Armed Reserve constable in 2007 and got converted his service into Civil a couple of years later. Using the connection while serving as a civil constable, he entered real estate business and created his own venture of houses. He first sold one of the houses in his venture to his aide Sunkari Shekhar. He created fake documents stating that he had purchased the house from Shekhar and availed home loan from police department's Bhadratha scheme. 'Using the same details, he fabricated documents and secured home loans from Indian Overseas Bank, HDFC and LIC,' the SP said. With this modus operandi, he collected Rs. 89 lakh in the form of multiple bank loans. In the same fashion, he availed multiple home loans from different banks. The accused spent most of the money he had earned for his lavish lifestyle and ended up behind the bars, Mr. Giridhar said.

Rane (Madras) posts Rs 16.5 cr PAT in Q1
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Mumbai, Aug 5 (PTI) Auto component maker and Rane Group firm Rane (Madras) on Tuesday posted an increase in consolidated profit after tax of Rs 18.5-crore in the June quarter. The company had recorded a consolidated PAT of Rs 14.6 crore in the first quarter of FY25, Rane (Madras) said in a statement. Total revenue for the quarter under review stood at Rs 884.4 crore, up 7.4 per cent from Rs 823.8 crore in the April-June period of the previous fiscal year, it said. Sales to domestic original equipment (OE) customers grew 7 per cent on the back of higher off-take in the passenger vehicle and farm tractor segment. Sales to international customers increased 15 per cent supported by strong offtake of steering products while sales to the domestic aftermarket customers declined 2 per cent, the company said. Fact Check: These sadhus were NOT attacked for hiding cameras in a temple changing room
A video of a mob attacking a group of Hindu holy men is making the rounds on social media. Those sharing the clip claimed that in Ghaziabad, devotees found a camera planted by temple caretaker (mahant) Mukesh Goswami in a women's changing room there. Locals and the police subsequently beat up sadhus from the temple. Sharing the clip on X, one person wrote, 'The biggest news of the day. In Muradnagar, Ganga Nahar of Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, a camera was found in the changing room outside a temple, and its live feed was on Mahant Mukesh Goswami's mobile. Videos of women changing clothes were found on Mahant's mobile. Many on social media had shared this video along with other footage of the incident at the article also contained a post by the Purulia District Police dated January 13, 2024. It stated that on January 11, 2024, a misunderstanding took place between three Gangasagar-bound sadhus and local minor girls. Locals then manhandled the sadhus and vandalised their vehicle, alleging a kidnapping attempt. Twelve people were arrested, and there was no communal angle to it. We also found many news reports about the 2024 incident from Purulia Police (@PuruliaPolice) January 13, 2024We then looked for news reports about the incident in Uttar Pradesh, as mentioned in viral posts. We found that a similar incident occurred in Ghaziabad in May 2024. At the time, a hidden camera was found in a women's changing room near a temple in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad, on May 21, FIR was lodged against temple caretaker Mukesh Goswami for allegedly installing the camera and watching its live feed. Mukesh absconded, and a reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced for his also demolished the changing room while removing encroachments at the site of the incident.
