City Hall's vision for Kuala Lumpur includes easy movement via connected parks, rivers, urban forests
KUALA LUMPUR is going greener in a big way, rolling out a 'green connector' network that will link parks, rivers and urban forests across the city.
The project by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) aims to improve air quality, boost biodiversity and give residents more connected green spaces in which to walk and cycle.
It will also create a natural habitat for urban wildlife.
Under Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040 (PTKL2040), 256km of connectors will be built in three phases – quick wins in the first two years, medium-term works over five years and long-term projects over the next decade.
'Funding will come from a mix of federal and local government allocations, international green grants, private sector corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts and endowment funds.
'Upgrades will include pedestrian and cycling paths with solar-powered lights, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, rest stops and public WiFi, as well as landscaping with shady trees and greenery suited to each zone,' DBKL said in a statement.
The network will be split into six zones – Upper Sanctuary, North East Loop, Vital Hub, South Suburb Loop, West Urban Loop and West Hill Loop.
The plan also covers upgrading 26 major roads, rebranding 17 public parks, beautifying 14 river reserves, improving 44 pocket parks (25 existing and 19 new) and upgrading six retention ponds.
The 'Kuala Lumpur Greening Plan: Park Connector Network' project was launched along the Sungai Bunus stretch in Wangsa Maju by Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif.
The event was also attended by representatives from Asean countries who were in Kuala Lumpur to participate in the Asean Governors and Mayors Forum (AGMF), the Asean Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF) and the Meeting of Governors and Mayors of Asean Capitals (MGMAC).
The ceremony was enlivened with a tree-planting session by representatives from all Asean capitals.
DBKL added that the initiative would set a new regional benchmark in urban green infrastructure.

This comes ahead of the Asean Navies' City Parade (ANCP) at the Esplanade in Padang Kota Lama tomorrow. The public will also be allowed to board several of them to see their systems up close. Seven of the warships are from other Asean nations and three from the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). RMN offshore patrol vessel KD Kedah arrived yesterday to mark a series of maritime defence events until Aug 22 under Malaysia's Asean chairmanship 2025. It was followed by frigates KD Lekiu and KD Lekir, corvettes RSS Vigour (Singapore), BRP Antonio Luna (Philippines), KRI Bung Tomo (Indonesia), VPNS Quang Trung (Vietnam), UMS Kin Sin Phyu (Myanmar) and patrol vessels HTMS Krabi (Thailand) and KDB Darulaman (Brunei). Penang will also host three key Asean naval events during the week in George Town and Batu Ferringhi – the 19th Asean Navy Chiefs' Meeting (ANCM), the third Asean Multilateral Naval Exercise (Amnex) and the Asean Fleet Review (AFR). On Tuesday, the ANCM will bring together navy chiefs from all Asean countries to discuss maritime security, peace and stability at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort. 10 Warships From ASEAN Countries Sail Into Penang
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- A total of 10 warships from ASEAN countries arrived at the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT) here today to attend events in conjunction with Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2025. Seven of the warships are from ASEAN countries, and three are from the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), bringing about 1,600 naval personnel in total. A Bernama survey found that three RMN warships - KD Kedah, measuring 91 metres (m) in length; KD Lekiu (106.5m); and KD Lekir (98m) - arrived ahead of the other vessels at the SPCT. They were followed closely by RSS Vigour (from Singapore); UMS King Sin Phyu Shin (Myanmar); BRP Antonio Luna (the Philippines); KRI Bung Tomo (Indonesia); VPNS Quang Trang (Vietnam); HTMS Krabi (Thailand); and KPD Darulaman (Brunei). The warships arrived at the SPCT between 9.15 am and 1.45 pm, and were welcomed with military traditions accompanied by a band performance and an RMN delegation. A survey of the Padang Kota area also found that many people seized the opportunity to view the warships docked at the SPCT, including recording their arrival. City Hall halts Bukit Damansara condo project after debris injures resident
KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall, through its Department of Building Control, has issued a stop-work order on The Cedar condominium project in Bukit Damansara today, following an incident in which building materials fell from the construction site, damaging property and injuring a resident of a neighbouring home. In a statement, City Hall said the stop-work order will remain in effect until the contractor completes repairs to the affected house with the owner's consent. "The contractor must also bear the medical treatment costs of the injured victim and improve the safety platform at the boundary between The Cedar development and the neighbouring residence." The order was issued under Section 87 of the Streets, Drainage and Building Act 1974. According to a preliminary report, the incident occurred yesterday at around 5.55pm when several granite tiles measuring 600mm by 800mm, being lifted by a tower crane, struck a barrier on the third floor. "The impact caused several tiles to fall onto the safety platform and be flung towards a house located at Jalan Setiakasih 6, Bukit Damansara." It said the incident resulted in damage to the house's roof and caused injuries to its occupants. The contractor took immediate action by assisting in clearing debris and repairing the damage at the affected location, it said. The project involves constructing a seven-storey luxury apartment block with 70 residential units, a main lobby and resident facilities on the ground floor. The building plans were approved on April 28, 2021, with construction now 75 to 80 per cent complete, mainly involving architectural, mechanical and electrical works. City Hall stressed that public safety is its top priority and it would not compromise with any party failing to comply with regulations and safety procedures at construction sites until all remedial measures are fully implemented to the satisfaction of the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur. Earlier today, it was reported that a house in Bukit Damansara was severely damaged when construction debris from a nearby condominium project crashed through its roof. Recalling the incident, Shaik Azrul Shaik Daud, 52, said his sister was injured after debris struck the upstairs room. Also present in the house during the incident were his 89-year-old father, 79-year-old mother, his daughter and a maid.
