Veruca Salt defends sharing photo of dead baby after being trolled online
A grieving Gold Coast mother who lost her baby son last year has taken aim at online trolls who criticised her for sharing a photo of the infant following his death.
Influencer Veruca Salt, real name Kimberley Summer Hartley, shared a photo of baby son Cash as a loving tribute to the infant following his death.
Cash died in his sleep at six-weeks old.
Hartley suffered backlash for the photo, with many followers saying it needed a 'trigger warning' before it was posted, which left her offended by the request.
'Ya'll come onto a grieving mother's Instagram and be shocked to see their (sic) is actually a dead baby,' Hartley said, in a clip she shared to her Instagram Stories.
'Genuine question: Are you stupid? Are you slow?
'You want me to explain in detail the horrible things that have happened. How did he die? what happened with your babydad,? How was the funeral? Then bitch and moan when you see it? Ok.
'He's embalmed in a coffin and he looks beautiful.'
Hartley defiantly shared a second photo.
Hartley went on to explain she is routinely triggered by 'pregnancy announcements', as well as 'every birth videos' but she continues to be fine because she understands those moments aren't 'about her'.
'I'm triggered every time I hear a mum complain about her baby being sick, pretending her kid having a cold is similar to them dying,' she wrote.
'I'm triggered at every pregnancy announcement, every birth video, every video of an older sibling meeting the new baby at the hospital, every video of a baby with their mum.
'My son's death isn't about you.'
Hartley announced the death of Cash in February last year.
'It is with a heavy heart that I'm writing this,' Hartley wrote on Instagram.
'My baby died in his sleep on Monday morning. I don't know what happened, he is having an autopsy this week but it is unlikely that I'll ever have an answer.
'I'm just saying this because people are still commenting on my TikToks saying how happy I look with him and 'just wait for the toddler stage' and stuff and I (really) can't take it anymore. I'm really sorry.'
Veruca announced the birth of son, Cash Harrison Stirling, in December 2023.

Try TikTok-famous ‘tissue bread' – and kiss your troubles goodbye
One of the most popular lunch items is the ham, tomato, lettuce and wasabi-mayo Salty Boi. Thanks to the seasoned bread, it's a va-va-voom improvement on the average meat and salad roll. Tissue bread orders are only matched by requests for cake cups bearing Asian-style sponge layered with milk cream and seasonal fruit. Heady stuff. I try the white grape version and it's a relief to eat that fruit within all the sponge and sweet cream. While it seems like there's a new viral treat on every Sydney street corner these days, Buttered's baked goods aren't just for Instagram's sake. The art and beauty behind the creations is clear, all the work of pastry chef Philip Choi, who trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. He says Buttered's creations are inspired by childhood memories of neighbourhood bakeries in South Korea. I say they're an express route to small moments of happiness. Three other new-wave bakeries to try Banksia Bakehouse Famous for buttery croissants garnished with fillings and toppings, Banksia's special this June is a gravity-defying coil of white coffee ganache creme patissiere layered with walnut praline and topped with mascarpone and candied walnuts. Grosvenor Place, 225 George Street, Sydney, Tenacious Bakehouse Few things are as beautiful as slicing into baker Yeongjin Park's huge version of a Portuguese tart, its glistening miso caramel top oozing down burnished pastry and bright custard. Don't miss the taro cream croissants either, with bellies purple like jacaranda blooms. Pantry Story If anyone knows how to pull crowds with new styles of baked goods, it's Tiara Sucipto, co-owner with Hari Wibowo of this cafe-bakery on Sydney's western artery. The menu changes weekly but the taro mochi croissant and beef pie are a sure-bet.
