Try TikTok-famous ‘tissue bread' – and kiss your troubles goodbye

One of the most popular lunch items is the ham, tomato, lettuce and wasabi-mayo Salty Boi. Thanks to the seasoned bread, it's a va-va-voom improvement on the average meat and salad roll.
Tissue bread orders are only matched by requests for cake cups bearing Asian-style sponge layered with milk cream and seasonal fruit. Heady stuff. I try the white grape version and it's a relief to eat that fruit within all the sponge and sweet cream.
While it seems like there's a new viral treat on every Sydney street corner these days, Buttered's baked goods aren't just for Instagram's sake. The art and beauty behind the creations is clear, all the work of pastry chef Philip Choi, who trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. He says Buttered's creations are inspired by childhood memories of neighbourhood bakeries in South Korea. I say they're an express route to small moments of happiness.
Three other new-wave bakeries to try
Banksia Bakehouse
Famous for buttery croissants garnished with fillings and toppings, Banksia's special this June is a gravity-defying coil of white coffee ganache creme patissiere layered with walnut praline and topped with mascarpone and candied walnuts.
Grosvenor Place, 225 George Street, Sydney, banksia.sydney
Tenacious Bakehouse
Few things are as beautiful as slicing into baker Yeongjin Park's huge version of a Portuguese tart, its glistening miso caramel top oozing down burnished pastry and bright custard. Don't miss the taro cream croissants either, with bellies purple like jacaranda blooms.
Pantry Story
If anyone knows how to pull crowds with new styles of baked goods, it's Tiara Sucipto, co-owner with Hari Wibowo of this cafe-bakery on Sydney's western artery. The menu changes weekly but the taro mochi croissant and beef pie are a sure-bet.

Woman berated for eating smelly meal on long-haul flight

An American woman has upset fellow travellers after she prepared a meal including boiled eggs during a long-haul flight earlier this month. Jess Marra embarked on the ten-hour journey from Los Angeles to Paris equipped with ziplock bags and containers full of prepared ingredients to assemble an alternative meal during the flight. The healthy meal choice sparked outrage online after the LA digital marketing worker shared a video of herself digging in to the questionable choice of protein. In the clip that has since gone viral, Jess can be seen sitting in the window seat as she cuts an avocado and empties salad dressing and mixed leaves into a reusable container to go alongside the boiled eggs. 'Making my own healthy dinner on a 10 hour flight bc free will exists,' text over the video read. Mortified viewers took to the comments to air their disapproval. 'Just because you can eat an egg on a flight doesn't mean you should,' one person wrote. 'Please take a kind hint from the majority of comments here and leave those boiled eggs at home next time…' another added. 'No one likes you on this flight….. no one,' a third agreed. 'New fear unlocked: I get on a plane and the person next to me starts making an egg salad,' another wrote. Jess has defended her unpopular decision, editing the post's caption just days ago to reassure her haters. 'Bc I hate plane food ✈️also i swear the SOFT BOILED egg didn't smell but will take the judgement,' the updated caption stated. The jet setter has poked fun at her viral moment during her most recent work trip, where she opted for a single-serve yoghurt and pre-package beverage for her in-flight snack. 'Today's plane snax for all my haters' the update on Instagram stories said. Jess Marra's lighthearted response to the backlash. Credit: Instagram

Woman makes ‘stinky' boiled egg dinner on packed flight

A woman has been mercilessly mocked after filming herself assembling a full meal – including boiled eggs – during a long-haul flight from Los Angeles to Paris. Jess Marra, 33, set the internet alight earlier this month after bringing a stash of prepacked containers to make a DIY on-board dinner during a 10-hour flight. 'What started as a fun travel moment turned into the international egg scandal of the year,' Jess said, after her video racked up more than 1.5 million views on Instagram and was flooded with thousands of angry comments. In the now-viral video, Jess can be seen unpacking her carefully prepped ingredients which included ziploc bags of dressing and avocado, before assembling a full-blown salad in her window seat. The LA digital marketing worker filmed herself aggressively shaking her salad and even peeling avocados in the crammed economy space. Naturally, many viewers weren't impressed – especially over her choice of protein. 'New fear unlocked: I get on a plane and the person next to me starts making an egg salad,' one horrified user wrote. 'Just because you can eat an egg on a flight doesn't mean you should,' agreed another. 'Between the egg, the elbow jabbing into your neighbour, the salad shaking and the 'influencing', I am 100 per cent annoyed and I'm not on the plane. Just be a normal person and stop trying to gain attention,' a third person fumed. Jess, however, hit back, saying she took care not to disturb anyone around her. 'Despite what the internet thinks, I was discreet in my window seat and kept everything low-key,' she said. 'When the flight attendant came around for meal service I politely declined, and once everyone around me was settled eating, I got to work. No one on the flight seemed to notice or care.' 'The comments were brutal,' Jess said. 'People were yelling at me for being selfish, inconsiderate, endangering the lives of passengers, and just generally being the worst human ever. I was kind of in shock.' She insists the eggs weren't actually smelly, explaining she deliberately undercooks them to avoid any odour. 'Was it a little weird I assembled a salad at my seat? Sure,' she admitted. 'Is it the end of the world that I ate an egg on a plane? Certainly not!' She was quick to point out the double standards, saying eggs are a common ingredient in plane meals anyway. 'Hard boiled eggs are sold in every airport convenience store and even at Starbucks for people to eat during flights,' she said. 'Plane food has a strong odour and, many times, eggs are included in the meal service as well. It's not like I unwrapped a tuna melt or started microwaving salmon mid-flight!' In the end, Jess says she was just trying to enjoy a decent meal on a tight schedule. 'The internet really ran with it,' she said, 'but in reality, I'm just a hungry girl trying to eat my dinner.'
