How many teams ranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll does Texas A&M play this season?
However, losing to Notre Dame in Kyle Field to open the season put the Aggies behind the sticks most of the year, despite starting 7-1 before ending 1-4 after star running back Le'Veon Moss was lost for the season. Losing Moss was preceded by a former five-star running back, Rueben Owens, going down early during the 2024 preseason, placing A&M in an immediate hole in the backfield from a depth perspective.
I'm not saying Texas A&M was lucky to finish 8-5 last season, because a nine- or ten-win season was in reach if Moss hadn't been injured, but that's just how the game goes, and no one, especially Mike Elko, is making excuses. Less than a month into the offseason, Elko and his staff retained 72% of the 2024 roster and added 14 players from the transfer portal. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed entered the offseason as the full-time starter, focused on improving as a passer.
Under Elko's defensive play-calling, the defense should be better, especially in coverage. At the same time, OC Collin Klein now has the loaded roster he needs, especially in the trenches, to produce a balanced attack, especially with more speed at wide receiver, knowing transfers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver have dominated in camp so far.
On Monday, the first US LBM Top 25 Coaches Poll was released, with Texas A&M ranked 21st, which isn't surprising given the usual lack of roster examination from a bulk of the head coaches who vote. Still, it's always a good thing to enter every season underrated, but per the rankings, the Aggies will face five ranked opponents, including four in the SEC.
USA TODAY recently ranked Texas A&M's 2025 schedule the 7th toughest nationally, and the path to the College Football Playoff has not changed. The Aggies will likely need to defeat either Notre Dame, LSU, or Texas while taking care of business against Arkansas and Missouri on the road. Losing to either Florida or South Carolina at home might not matter, but finishing undefeated in Kyle Field will only increase the program's chances of earning a playoff berth.
Texas A&M will kick off the 2025 season against UTSA in Kyle Field on Saturday, August 30.

Texas A&M is a finalist to land elite 2026 4-star SF out of Marietta (GA)
Texas A&M head coach Bucky McMillan and his staff gained ground with Top-20 recruit Colben Landrew, who placed the Aggies in his top 10. The four-star 6-foot-6 guard/forward is scheduled for an official visit in early October, and Coach Bucky will do everything he can to keep A&M high on Landrew's list. Landrew is a big-bodied guard with a 6-foot-10 wingspan and a physical style of play that translates seamlessly from the football field to the hardwood. He's an intelligent player who's still developing as a shooter but has already shown a smooth touch. Landing in Landrew's top 10 is a strong first step, but the Aggies will need to cover serious ground to keep pace with programs like Auburn, Texas, and Alabama. If A&M can put a compelling product on the floor and show Landrew that his style fits the Bucky Ball system, it could go a long way in his recruitment. According to 247Sports, Landrew is ranked No. 61 nationally, No. 25 among small forwards, and No. 4 in the state of Texas. On the same day that Michigan State basketball made the final list for one major 2026 recruit in Ethan Taylor, the Spartans also made the top six for the recruitment of rising power forward Quinn Costello. Costello released his top-6 on Saturday night via Joe Tipton of Tipton Edits, and it looks like MSU will be going head-to-head with several Big Ten schools for the commitment of the talented forward. Costello has had a strong summer, jumping from No. 47 all the way to No. 28 in Rivals' 2026 rankings. Costello is a 6-foot-10 power forward out of The Newman School in Boston. Rivals also has him ranked as their No. 5 power forward in the class. Michigan State basketball makes top six for 5-star center Ethan Taylor
Michigan State basketball fans got some welcome news on the recruiting front on Saturday, when 2026 5-star center Ethan Taylor dropped his top six schools for his recruitment and included the Spartans in that group. Ethan Taylor is a 7-foot, 244-pound center who is currently ranked the No.1 center in the class by the 247Sports composite rankings. They have him ranked at No. 22 in the 2026 class by those same composite rankings. Taylor's list was first released by Joe Tipton of Tipton Edits on and included the following teams: That is a pretty big list of heavy-hitters that Michigan State will need to go up against to land this recruitment, including two Big Ten schools. Indiana is particularly interesting as they just brought in new head coach Darian DeVries, who will be looking to make a big splash.
