Yusuf/Cat Stevens Announces Long-Awaited Memoir, ‘Cat on the Road to Findout'

Yahoo13-05-2025
Yusuf/Cat Stevens has announced his long-awaited memoir, Cat on the Road to Findout, out this fall.
The memoir, which arrives in the U.K. on Sept. 18 and North America on Oct. 7, chronicles Stevens' life and career. It begins with his upbringing in the West End of London, where he was born Steven Demetre Georgiou in 1948, and his start as a musician in the Sixties.

His career was briefly put on pause in 1969 when he got tuberculosis and famously spent a year in isolation, writing over 40 songs. Several of those would appear on 1970's Tea for the Tillerman, his masterpiece that ushered in the singer-songwriter generation (Yusuf rerecorded the classic in 2020). The book also documents the moment he quit secular music and converted to Islam in 1978, and returned to the stage several decades later.
'I've been on an amazing journey, which began in the narrow streets of London, and led me through the most iconic cities, to perform upon the great stage of Western culture, ascending the dizzying heights of wealth, recognition, and artistic pinnacles,' Yusuf said in a statement.
He added: 'Freely exploring vast ranges of religions and philosophies, wandering through churches, temples, all the way to the Holy abode in Jerusalem — ignoring myths and warnings — and crossing the foreboded, desert heartlands, to arrive at the House of One God in Abrahamic Arabia. What finally elevated my perspective was a luminous Book that perfectly alchemized my thoughts, beliefs, with human nature. It taught me Oneness, and my place and purpose within the universe.'
Stevens has been working on his memoir for several years, even giving Rolling Stone an update on his progress in 2022. 'It's absolutely my whole life,' he told us. 'If you want to know about me and Jimi Hendrix, it's in there.… We were doing a tour [in the spring of 1967]. It was the first time he lit his guitar on fire. I was too scared in my dressing room, thinking about how I'm going to approach my set, to even bother about going down there and having a look. [Laughs.] We got quite close. We shared some times together, and a few puffs, as you would, in that purple haze.'
Yusuf will perform at London's Hyde Park on July 11, alongside Neil Young and Van Morrison. Cat on the Road to Findout, which takes its name from the Tillerman track 'On the Road to Find Out,' is available for preorder; a book tour is expected to be announced.

Kylie, Kendall, Bella, and Hailey reunite in coordinating monochrome looks

While many of us spent our Wednesday night on the couch, watching Taylor Swift's New Heights podcast appearance, California's 'It' girls slipped into their chicest summer fits for sweet reunion. Earlier in the day, sisters Kylie and Kendall Jenner joined best friends Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber at a cocktail garden party to celebrate Hadid's fragrance brand Orebella and her latest perfume release, Eternal Roots. The host and model looked ethereal in a romantic, flowing white maxi dress by Mirror Palais. The slinky, airy piece had a halter neckline and a plunging cutout down the bust, as well as a high thigh cutout. The Orebella founder wore the dress with layers of boho-inspired jewellery and pulled her new blonde hair up into a top knot. Her look also nodded to her cowgirl pastime with a pair of white Western embroidered boots. Bieber, meanwhile, stuck to the muted colour scheme in the most fun way—with polka dots (a print she's worn several times now). Her black midi dress from Dolce & Gabbana was covered in white lunettes, and featured a structured bustier bodice. She wore it with strappy heels and dainty gold-and-diamond jewellery, and had her hair in her signature bun. Kylie—who is straight off her 28th birthday celebration—looked sultry in a black midi dress with a strappy, bold halter neckline and ab cutouts. She styled it with pointy black heels, a matching micro bag, gold jewellery, and a voluminous, wavy hairdo. Kendall matched her little sister's energy in her own little black dress—a sleek strapless number—which the minimalist supermodel styled only with black sandals and little gold hoop earrings. Her hair was pulled back into a neat bun. Later in the night, for a dinner date at Italian restaurant Alba in Los Angeles, the famous BFFs were also joined by Alex Consani and two other girlfriends, and all seven of them coordinated in black-and-white looks. Hadid changed into a tight black midi dress and knife-sharp heels, while Consani wore a timeless little white dress, which she accessorised only with skinny black sunglasses. Over 30 years after its debut, this classic film is dominating streaming

For one of the most celebrated movies of all time, another redemption arc is on the horizon. Released in 1994 to modest box office numbers, "The Shawshank Redemption" has since become a resounding success, landing a top spot on cinema rankings from IMDb to Rolling Stone. Now, it's making its way up the streaming charts as well. Back on Peacock for audiences' home-viewing pleasure, the movie, which follows one prisoner's odyssey through a cruel system, broke into the platform's top 10 most-watched titles this week. Based on a Stephen King novella, "Shawshank" tells the story of Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who was convicted of killing his wife and her lover and sentenced to life in prison despite a plea of not guilty. While in prison, Dufresne befriends fellow inmate Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), known for helping to smuggle contraband into the penitentiary. That's just 'Psycho': These 10 classic movies never won an Oscar The movie, which spans 19 years, nabbed seven Academy Award nominations and was a critical darling, but failed to capture popular appeal at the time of its release. Audiences of the now-beloved movie seem keen to dip into the drama, with a renewed interest in Dufresne's epic and complicated story. It's a career-defining performance from Freeman as well, so fans may want to soak up the acting legend's talent before he signs off the big screen for good. In an interview earlier this year with USA TODAY, Freeman hinted at a possible impending retirement, saying: "I imagine … I might be at the point where I say, 'OK, y'all, I quit.'" How to watch 'The Shawshank Redemption' The movie is available now to stream for free with a Peacock membership and for rent on Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Olivia Rodrigo's Entire Catalog Surges Yet Again

Olivia Rodrigo completed much of her Guts World Tour in 2024, but the singer-songwriter added a few dates around the world this year. She has performed shows connected to her latest worldwide trek in the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Ireland, and most recently England. The Grammy winner also headlined the latest Glastonbury Festival in late June alongside The 1975 and Neil Young, so her fans in the United Kingdom may feel especially connected to her right now – and that may explain why she's doing so well on the charts. Guts Rises on Every Chart Last week, Rodrigo's sophomore album Guts was a top 40 success on all four charts on which it appeared. This frame, it manages that distinction again and even climbs. Guts lands in similar positions on the Official Albums Streaming, Official Albums, Official Albums Sales, and Official Physical Albums charts. This frame, the pop-rock effort sits at Nos. 23, 24, and 27 on the final two tallies, respectively. Guts Reaches 100 Weeks on the Albums Chart This is a big week for Guts, as the set reaches a special milestone. It becomes Rodrigo's latest full-length to spend 100 weeks on both the main ranking of the most consumed albums in the U.K. and the tally that looks specifically at the most-streamed efforts. Guts is Rodrigo's second project to hit that prestigious mark, as her debut Sour reached the same milestone some time ago. Next frame, Guts will likely become a triple-digit charter on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums rankings as well. Sour Manages to Win When It Comes to Streams Sour is not far behind its successor on two lists. On the Official Albums chart, Sour sits just two spots down from Guts, landing at No. 26. Impressively, Sour, the older of the two, beats Guts by a pair of spaces on the Official Albums Streaming ranking, where it settles at No. 21, compared to Guts, which can be found at No. 23. When it comes to pure purchases, however, Guts is the clear winner. The second full-length from Rodrigo is living inside the top 40 while Sour increases from No. 77 on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums tallies to Nos. 73 and 71, respectively.
