Yusuf/Cat Stevens Announces Long-Awaited Memoir, ‘Cat on the Road to Findout'
Yusuf/Cat Stevens has announced his long-awaited memoir, Cat on the Road to Findout, out this fall.
The memoir, which arrives in the U.K. on Sept. 18 and North America on Oct. 7, chronicles Stevens' life and career. It begins with his upbringing in the West End of London, where he was born Steven Demetre Georgiou in 1948, and his start as a musician in the Sixties.

His career was briefly put on pause in 1969 when he got tuberculosis and famously spent a year in isolation, writing over 40 songs. Several of those would appear on 1970's Tea for the Tillerman, his masterpiece that ushered in the singer-songwriter generation (Yusuf rerecorded the classic in 2020). The book also documents the moment he quit secular music and converted to Islam in 1978, and returned to the stage several decades later.
'I've been on an amazing journey, which began in the narrow streets of London, and led me through the most iconic cities, to perform upon the great stage of Western culture, ascending the dizzying heights of wealth, recognition, and artistic pinnacles,' Yusuf said in a statement.
He added: 'Freely exploring vast ranges of religions and philosophies, wandering through churches, temples, all the way to the Holy abode in Jerusalem — ignoring myths and warnings — and crossing the foreboded, desert heartlands, to arrive at the House of One God in Abrahamic Arabia. What finally elevated my perspective was a luminous Book that perfectly alchemized my thoughts, beliefs, with human nature. It taught me Oneness, and my place and purpose within the universe.'
Stevens has been working on his memoir for several years, even giving Rolling Stone an update on his progress in 2022. 'It's absolutely my whole life,' he told us. 'If you want to know about me and Jimi Hendrix, it's in there.… We were doing a tour [in the spring of 1967]. It was the first time he lit his guitar on fire. I was too scared in my dressing room, thinking about how I'm going to approach my set, to even bother about going down there and having a look. [Laughs.] We got quite close. We shared some times together, and a few puffs, as you would, in that purple haze.'
Yusuf will perform at London's Hyde Park on July 11, alongside Neil Young and Van Morrison. Cat on the Road to Findout, which takes its name from the Tillerman track 'On the Road to Find Out,' is available for preorder; a book tour is expected to be announced.

Police investigating the shooting death of actor Jonathan Joss have not ruled out his sexual orientation playing a role in his killing, despite an earlier statement suggesting otherwise. During a dispute Sunday night near his San Antonio, Texas home, Joss was shot and killed; a neighbor, identified by investigators as Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, was taken into custody and charged with murder. Julia Zilberquit Performance at Mozart Evenings Festival Draws Standing Ovations in Italy
Julia Zilberquit on stage of Teatro Marrucino at the Mozart Evenings concert From the 25th of May to the 4th of June 2025, the Italian city of Chieti, in the country's picturesque Abruzzo region, marked the much-anticipated return of Mozart Evenings, a grand festival celebrating the rich legacy and musical genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Organised by Konstantin Ishkhanov, its President, in collaboration with Artistic Director Giuliano Mazzoccante, this event marked the second edition of the festival, which has quickly established itself as a staple entry in the cultural calendar of the region. Hosted at the historic Teatro Marrucino, which has been named as one of Italy's Theatres of Tradition since 2003, this 2025 edition of Mozart Evenings featured a total of five classical concerts, bringing together a stunning lineup of international soloists, conductors, and orchestras in a celebratory homage to one of the greatest composers in Western music, including amongst them the celebrated US pianist Julia Zilberquit. Julia Zilberquit with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan on stage of Teatro Marrucino A graduate of the Juilliard School, Zilberquit has earned critical acclaim as a recitalist, chamber musician and recording artist, being praised by the New York Times as 'an outstanding soloist' after one of her performances at Carnegie Hall. She has also performed at the 92nd Street Y, and the Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, to mention a few, and has appeared at many major international music festivals including events in Seattle, Colmar (France), Klangbogen (Vienna), the Bard Music Festival in New York, and the Penderecki Festival (Poland). 'Mozart is of course a genius of all times', said Zilberquit, 'and I don't know what the world of classical music would be without him, I cannot imagine it! I'm so happy to be performing here in Chieti in this wonderful amazing Teatro Marrucino, and to be presenting this particular concerto – the Concerto in A minor No. 23, K. 488. In my opinion, it's one of the most beautiful piano concertos, not only from Mozart's oeuvre, but of all time, especially its second movement. It's very sad and very profound, and I think I'm lucky and we're lucky to be in the presence of such a genius piece tonight.' In addition to Zilberquit, the festival's concerts were headlined by such luminaries as pianists Cyprien Katsaris (Greece), Giuliano Mazzoccante (Italy), and Arsenii Moon (France), violinists Davide Alogna (Italy), Karen Shahgaldyan (Armenia), and Anna Tifu (Italy), clarinetist Vicente Alberola (Spain), flautist Tommaso Benciolini (Italy), and violist Giuseppe Russo Rossi (Italy). Moreover, audiences in Italy were also able to witness the talents of the AYSO Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan, who took to the stage under the direction of several acclaimed conductors, including Luis Andrade (Portugal), Alibek Kabdurakhmanov (Uzbekistan), Gianluca Marcianò (Italy), and Teresa Satalino (Italy). 'I'm very happy to have had the chance to work with the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan', Zilberquit added. 'It's a great experience, it was my first time collaborating with them, and with Maestro Gianluca Marcianò as well. We've known each other for a very, very long time, and we have always discussed working together, and today, this finally happened, so I'm very happy about that!' Through this remarkable gathering of artistic excellence, Mozart Evenings continued to fulfil its goal of honouring the rich legacy of the Austrian composer, while also celebrating Chieti's musical heritage and its role as a cultural hub for the region. Commenting about the organisation of the festival, Zilberquit took the time to highlight the work being carried out by the duo who spearheaded the event, stating that 'I have worked with Mr Konstantin Ishkhanov and Maestro Giuliano Mazzoccante several times, and it is always a great experience. The organisation is great, it's always top notch! We've done things together in Malta, we've done things together in Dubai, and I'm especially happy to be in Chieti because I was supposed to perform a solo concert here in the spring of 2020, and then the Covid-19 pandemic started. So, of course, this concert did not happen, but five years later here we are!' After a nearly seven-year wait since "Tha Carter V," Lil Wayne fans finally get to listen to the next installment of the rapper's series with Friday's release of "Tha Carter VI." Why it matters: Lil Wayne remains New Orleans' most influential modern musician. "He's going to be regarded as one of the greatest renaissance wordsmith composers of our generation. Between the lines: It's not like Lil Wayne hasn't been busy since 2018. In just the past few years, the famously prolific artist has collaborated with fellow New Orleanian Rob49, Doja Cat, Nas, Jack Harlow and alongside 2 Chainz for an entire album. He's also made stops at home in New Orleans, dropping in for a surprise appearance at Essence Fest. It's hard to overstate how much Lil Wayne has accomplished since he was a young boy growing up in Hollygrove, begging for a chance to be on Ronald "Slim" Williams' and Bryan "Baby" Williams' Cash Money Records. That relationship helped Lil Wayne become a star, pairing him up with the Hot Boys and providing a platform from which he leapt into the stratosphere. Since then, Lil Wayne etched his way into rap history with his own style, which he has reinvented again and again. Meanwhile, he created his own label, Young Money, through which he signed stars like Drake, Nicki Minaj and DJ Khaled. Yes, but: The scope of his entrepreneurship can be overlooked, a fact that doesn't seem to bother him much. As Wayne told Gee for the Rolling Stone piece, "I'm fine being the best rapper, and then you just found out, 'Oh s—, he owns [Young Money]? Oh, he put Drake out? Oh, my God.'" Zoom in: "Tha Carter VI" is reportedly set to include an eclectic list of collaborators, including Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Bono, Wyclef Jean and even Andrea Bocelli, who decided to sign on after hearing about how Wayne accidentally shot himself when he was 12 years old. Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, also receives production credit. The first single, "The Days," dropped this week as part of ESPN's promo for the NBA finals. The intrigue: Lil Wayne is touring to support the album, with a string of dates that doesn't include his hometown.
