Hamilton Accies Broadwood move still to be approved, SPFL confirms

Daily Record2 days ago

Accies are bidding to play home games in Cumbernauld next season by the SPFL are yet to give it the green light
Hamilton Accies' proposed move to Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld is yet to be ratified by the SPFL, Lanarkshire Live Sport can reveal.
The League One club are seeking to complete the move to a new temporary home after they failed to come to an agreement to purchase New Douglas Park from its current owner Colin McGowan last season. It is a decision which has sparked anger and concern amid large sections of the Accies support and local businesses in the town.

Last month, we revealed that Accies would be unable to play any pre-season games of League Cup matches at Broadwood due to pitch resurfacing works taking place. The new pitch is set to be relayed in time for the start of the new league camapign, which kicks-off on Saturday, August 2.

And that has forced Accies to schedule their 'home' Premier Sports League Cup games with Hearts on July 15 and Dumbarton on July 26 at K-Park in East Kilbride.
The SPFL are due to release the fixtures for the 2025/26 league campaign on Friday, June 20, by which time Hamilton's home ground would need to be confirmed.
It is understood Hamilton Accies submitted a tenancy agreement in April but amendments have since had to be made. The SPFL has yet to approve Broadwood as their home ground for next season and they remain in discussions with the club and landlords North Lanarkshire Council regarding this.
An SPFL spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live Sport: 'The SPFL remains in dialogue with Hamilton Academical FC over their proposed temporary move to Broadwood Stadium.
"East Kilbride's K-Park has been confirmed as Hamilton Academical's venue for home matches during the Premier Sports Cup group stage – but, to date, no venue has been confirmed for the club's other SPFL home fixtures for season 2025/26.'

The letter claimed: 'The SPFL stated if New Douglas Park is off the table, and the supporters don't approve Broadwood, there is the very real possibility that they will kick our club out of the leagues.
'If we don't have a 'home' stadium approved by the SPFL without further delay (we've already missed the deadline), we won't meet their Membership Criteria for next season and it'll go to a vote of the other 41 SPFL members."
The SPFL did not comment on our enquiry regarding this.

Michael Beale tells Rangers fans to get behind Russell Martin and opens up on Steven Gerrard return possibility

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MICHAEL BEALE has urged the Rangers fans to be patient with Russell Martin - because he WILL get them moving in the right direction. Celtic enjoyed another dominant season in Scottish football, winning the Premiership title and the Premier Sports Cup. 3 Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Russell Martin as their new head coach Credit: PA 3 Michael Beale and Steven Gerrard were linked with a potential return to Ibrox Credit: Willie Vass - The Sun Glasgow The Hoops finished 17 points clear of Rangers, with Philippe Clement sacked in February and Barry Ferguson failing to get a consistent tune out of the squad in his spell as interim boss. Martin, 39, was confirmed as the new head coach this morning on a three-year deal. Beale, part of Steven Gerrard's backroom team whilst at Gers, returned to Ibrox in 2022 but was sacked 43 games later. He was briefly linked alongside Gerrard with a potential comeback this summer, with Gerrad, Martin and Davide Ancelotti all considered by the Ibrox board. In the end the job was given to Martin and Beale is hopeful he can return his former club to success. Speaking on talkSPORT, Beale said: "He should go in there with the conviction and the bravery that he's shown to take the job. "He obviously believes in himself and as a coach he has a strong identity in terms of how he wants his teams to play. "The fans will need to be patient with the new ownership and Russell as a coach as they build a new Rangers. "Everybody wanted to see Rangers rebuild under the new ownership and get a new head coach to move in a new direction. "Everyone should get behind Russell and his staff." What next for Rangers after American takeover is confirmed? While the fans are being asked to give the new manager time to bed in, Beale did admit the expectation for the team to win will be there from the off. He said: "The expectation will be the same but obviously with the new ownership waiting in the wings, the last couple of managers haven't had stability around them. That certainly won't be the case now for Russell. "I wish them every success. "Given time, I think he can move Rangers in the right direction. "It's a time for excitement and optimism." Beale also opened up on how close he and Gerrard came to coming back to Glasgow. He said: "No, we never spoke about it to be honest. "Steven has said he wants to take a period of time with his family, he's becoming a grandfather this summer which is a wonderful thing for him. "I don't think it was ever on the cards and we are all behind Russell as Rangers supporters." 3 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

That decision was made by chairman Steve Gibson following a four-week end-of-season review by the club's hierarchy after their dismal second half of the campaign. Carrick, who was the division's longest-serving manager, led Boro from the 21st in the table in October 2022 to the play-offs. That was followed by an eighth-placed finish and a run to the League Cup semi-finals but, despite a positive first half of this season, they eventually ended a disappointing tenth. SunSport understands that Cooper, out of work since he was sacked following a brief and ill-fated stint at Leicester in November, is among the top candidates Boro want to speak with. He shone in the Championship at Swansea City by leading them to consecutive play-off finishes. And he surpassed that at Nottingham Forest, achieving legendary status by guiding them back to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2022. Potential St Johnstone advantage for cup clash revealed as East Kilbride boss hails Simo Valakari

The manager of St Johnstone's first opponents of next season has spoken of his admiration for Perth head coach, Simo Valakari. SPFL new boys, East Kilbride, will host Saints in the Premier Sports Cup opener on Saturday, July 12. Their boss, Mick Kennedy, is a fan of the Finn's footballing principles. And he's excited about the prospect of going head to head with the McDiarmid Park side next month. 'St Johnstone is a massive game to kick us off after getting into the SPFL,' said Kennedy. 'I know they had an unsuccessful season and had a new manager come in, but I have a lot of admiration for Simo Valakari in terms of how his side plays. 'He is trying to implement a possession-based style of play so I think that will make for a good game between us. 'We will go to try and win all the games, and we'll certainly show no fear.' Raith Rovers, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Elgin City are the other sides in Group F. And Saints may have an advantage in getting East Kilbride, who were promoted into League Two through the play-offs, first. 'We will try and get one friendly in before the cup starts but that will be our pre-season,' said Kennedy, who guided his team to SPFL Trust Trophy victories over Airdrie and Ayr United last season. 'Because we finished a lot later than the SPFL teams and the boys needed their break we need to use the competition as our pre-season.'
